I also don't think you can call someone a champion of small government when they increase the debt and deficit the way that Trump has (over and above what was already an unsustainable debt load). Beyond all that, the republican party is shrinking. Trump has not grown the party and that is one reason the polls look like they do. Even before COVID his approval ratings were abysmal.
It's not illogical to say you want the party to lose so that it can ultimately be healed. Trump has changed the party and there are plenty of non-populist conservatives who would never join the current GOP (why I left).
Beyond that, the video was an exercise in calling his selected NeverTrumpers hypocrites. That's fine, but it's not a cogent argument. Maybe they were wrong about GWB, but right about Trump?
The guys that better represent my position are David French, Jonah Goldberg, and Steve Hayes. That said, the project Lincoln guys are doing a great job of showing the hypocrisy of the new GOP (well, mainly the converted old GOP holdovers like LadyG, Cruz, Rubio, and the like).

Interesting. I think I could get on board with this kind of thinking. Might just be the kind of commitment we need to make things change.
Like....I hope the dems win all of the Senate races so they get a super majority and can impeach all of Trump's court appointments. Especially that evil Kavanaugh. Then we can get some REAL things accomplished and maybe 100% of all black pregnancies would end in abortion instead of just 50%. I think once people saw the genocide happening they may be ready to address this kind of thing in a different manner. Just line the streets with dead fetuses and they'll come around. Let the healing begin.
I hope the corporate tax is raised to a punitive level and the EPA becomes even more aggressive under Biden to make more American businesses move overseas to stay competitive. The resulting chaos should go a long way toward "healing" our economic system when people see they have the right to freely trade with the nations that took our jobs, but they don't have the money to do so.
I hope the riots that are happening in the country eventually lead to all out war. When we have a clear victor we can start "healing" around the winner. Defunding the police and encouraging mob rule should push this along nicely.
The most important thing is that everything is EXACTLY the way I want it when all is said and done, because mine is the only viewpoint that matters and it is better to see everything torn down than for me to have to compromise ANY of my values. If I have to compromise any of them, I'd rather just compromise them all and start from scratch when everything is destroyed.
We could call this cuttingoffournosetospiteourfaceism. Much better than that evil old populism.

Definitely post of the day...and maybe the week! It is so good, so on target, I have nothing to add...and that is saying a lot!

That's exactly how the propagandists want you to think. Vote for this guy or the world will end. Didn't end in 8 years of Obama. Didn't end in 8 years of GWB...8 years of Clinton, etc. Maybe you're a "conservative" populist who doesn't have to violate your principles to vote for Trump. That's fine for you, but you still have to deal with the fact that your guy has shrunk the party, lost the house and currently has the Senate and the WH in jeopardy. As such, even your "conservative" populist victories will be short-lived.
If he loses, it won't be the fault of the never Trumpers...it'll be the fault of the man himself. His inability to discipline himself is an inability to grow the party and further his national populism.

Didn't end, but it got worse. 24 years of little bites is a subtle approach. We need much more than subtle to undo what has happened since LBJ began the modern day plantation.

Then you need a better messenger. If he loses in November...or if he wins and doesn't do any better than he has so far, little bites is all you got.

Nah, him upsetting the apple cart is enough. Four more years of what he has done will finally make the truly caring politicians do all they can to go up against the swamp guys who we've seen in operation since Hillary lost.

How do you evaluate it if he loses? Bonus question: what if he loses the senate too?

He won't.
Have you seen the Biden supporters in action lately? They aren't making any new friends in Seattle, Portland, Chicago, New York, etc..
Now tell me about what the polls are saying...

For the lack of a better term than "swamp" do you believe that it exists, and that there is a deep state? Do you believe that during last 8 years of Obama admin that the DOJ, IRS, IC and other bureaucratic departments were weaponized? Do you believe that MSM is biased and a propaganda arm for the democratic party?

Swamp: yes
Deep state: no
Agencies weaponized: no more than normal
MSM: biased, yes. Fewer eyes than Fox News: yes.
A part of the dem party? Nah...the DNC would have to be WAY more organized for that to be the case. The fact that Biden is the guy should show you how unlikely the deep state conspiracy crap is...Biden is the guy? Come on.

I share the confusion of one of the commenters on that article. Is the payroll tax thing meant to be stimulus money, but the expectation is that if Trump is re-elected he'll make it permanent (or try) but if he isn't people would like have to pay it back? I'm not totally sure that's what he's pitching (sometimes it's a little hard to tell with him, he's not exactly what I'd call "precise").

And Biden picks Harris as VP...the same Harris that the left flank of the DNC sunk because of her history as a prosecutor.
