Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
Has anyone heard details on how, or if, shuttles will be used for the A&M game?
-
Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
asked the guys in the ticket office yesterday and said that it would be determined by expected crowd size and hopefully within 2 weeks of the game. so the answer i guess is, they dunno yet
-
Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
Yes, Shuttles running from Pierre Bossier and Mall St. Vincent. I do not know what time they will start, but I got this information from the ticket office last week. Please post if something has changed.

Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
I hope so! That is how I've been planning on getting there

Best plan to drive and then be surprised if shuttle is used. My dime is on no shuttle.

Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
I called the Tech ticket office, State Fair, and Independence bowl office this past Wednesday and they told they didn't know so I bought a parking pass.

Is this not hilarious - State Fair have run so many games at I-Bowl over the years that matters like this should have been resolved by now. Do you guys finally see there's a Major problem with playing at State Fair Stadium. They probably see that there's really not much of a need to have 'em (shuttles) because of 1.) not many tickets have been sold to warrent looking into this, right now there's ample parking OR 2.) they are just have no clue what to do ! I'm really not expecting much from the State Fair Folks or the city of Shreveport.
I bought the silver parking pass.

The Stadium is leased by the COS-SPAR to TECH. It is TECH who has to contract for shuttles if they want their crowd to have the advantage of shuttels. The Independence Bowl does this each year.

Don't know about hers, but she's been revving up mine. I view his sig just to get my heart rate up so I don't have to go out in the heat.

Does anyone have anymore information about this? I would like to take advantage of this if it is an option but I guess I need to hurry up and purchase a parking pass if it will not be availabe.

Ditto. I always take the shuttle to and from Independence Stadium.

I just called over to Ruston and they say Shreveport still hasn't made a decision.

So is it Tech's decision or the city of Shreveport's decision?
If there were already 27,000 tickets sold like someone reported surely the shuttle service will be provided
-
Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
This is really not funny, but man oh man...I have heard more reasons to have played the game in Ruston now than I ever had from a number of my friends. Asking me why we had to play the game here? You know the parking and security will be tough and getting out after the game will be a nightmare. I just shrugged my shoulders and said we'd be there anyway for my team's support.
I only hope that next season a game of this importance will be looked at more closely. I feel that there may not be enough tickets sold to warrant getting the buses, there will be ample parking around the stadium. The Tech / Northwestern game played during the State Fair years ago drew 15,000 to just over 20,000 - had plenty of parking along with the Carnival rides and there trailers...so we shall see what it's like !

Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
I'm assuming no shuttle if they don't have any news at this point so I'm moving to plan B.
Plan B: Drink beer in parking lot while waiting for traffic to clear out and listening to the post-game about how bad the Aggie's looked during their loss.

That is my Plan A.

Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
Some of us advocated for this game to be played in Ruston. Bring in temporary seating if necessary to accommodate an over-flow crowd.
There will be plenty of complaints about the lousy handling of this event. Once again, and predictably, S'port will drop the ball. There will be calls to "never play in S'port again!" Until the next time.

dawg80 I can't agree with you more. For years I've given S'port /Bossier area a chance to be active in sports. There idea and my idea are very far apart. When they finally wake up it'll be too late. Ruston has a great future if they take growth in a way to better it's citizens and to keep it's young wanting to stay and build. Any city depends on it's youth for it's future. Unfortunatly S'port has sunk all it's marbles in gambling and look where that's going. Are we better off now that they been here for over 10 years ?
You can only hit your head against the wall before it starts to hurt and then you stop. I would think after the Grambling fiasco we'd have learned, but like you said here we are again. I live here, I hope and pray some day the leadership will come to the top before it's too late.

Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
I look at it as being 70 miles closer to home, so I don't have to drive as far!!! Every cloud has a silver lining. Maybe some of you ought to start looking at the bright side of things rather than just bitch all the time. Don't you get tired of that???

They are passing the buck Steve - it's totally our call at our expense....

And I want NO part of the shuttle system unless it is the same group that runs the I-bowl shuttle...

Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
What I get tired of is the way we're treated all the time, like ("oh by the way"...) by the guru's in Shreveport concerning La. Tech.
Dwayne you are so right. At our expense of course we're being used. When the I-Bowl was in dire straits where did they go - La. Tech vs. Maryland game which at that time was record attendance for them. I'd like to know how much do we lose playing in Shreveport. It sure looks like a lot in $$$ and what does our school gain, the city of Ruston, the hotels and restaurants in Ruston lose by playing in Shreveport...as we are growing so does our budget and the bottom line. The idea is not be complaining all the time, but how to better ourselves, our program, our future for our children that attend La. Tech. It all works together to set a better quality of life not only for our community but for our future.
Consider this: Supporting La. Tech over a season / year(s) requires commitment, money and time. You're a special person that's apart from the casual fan that picks and chooses when and where they want to participate. I hope that the casual fan can eventually become a season ticket holder or in some way up their level to support our program(s) that will help our school in their many indeavors.

Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
In fairness, I was told a while ago NOT to expect the shuttle due to the level of ticket sales...
So I planned accordingly
-
Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
If the Shuttle is handled by those that do it all the time, is the way to go... It's out of our control...

I'm not sure which company handles the I-Bowl shuttles, but I know that A-1 is a good company with good drivers. They handled the shuttle system for the employees at LSUHSC forever.

Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
Dwayne - that's what I thought. The ticket sales had a lot to do with that.

Did we sell more tickets to the Miami game? There were shuttles for that game

Evidently at this point we did (and I think we took a big hit on the cost...)
We didn't have the shuttles for the 1999 game vs A&M

The ticket office was offering them. "We have sold out our allotment". I assume that means that Texas A&M also got an allotment of parking passes. Once again, nice negotiation skills by BVDV. I thought this was our home game?

Does this game really have less ticket sales than a typical I bowl game? I have been to several and I doubt any besides when Tech is in it have near the attendance that this game will.

Yes...
Last year was the first one I missed in a LONG TIME (it rained about 6 inches that day) -
And most always the I-Bowl has better attendance than most any TECH game held in the stadium (and I know that's what most DON'T want to hear)
Plus - the IBowl committee runs the IBowl, not the City of Shreveport or the Sports Authority (or whatever it is called now)
The IBowl committee knows how to manage the game day activities of their game VERY VERY well from traffic to shuttles to concessions to entertainment (atleast I think they do)...

Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
Most of the people in north La. are really stupid when it comes to college football, and especially La Tech football. My brother in Springhill said a so-called football fan said to him that "Tyrone Mathieu should transfer to Tech and play since Tech was in a lower division than LSU". I told my brother to say to the next person that says that that we have our own players at Tech and we don't need any dopehead LSU rejects screwing up our team.

I heard the same thing the other day at work.

Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
Who handled the shuttles for the Grambling game?
Wasn't that a home game for Tech?
Why have shuttles for the Grambling game and not Texas A&M?
-
Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
Grambling game was TECHNICALLY a GSU home game/production -
-
Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
If the shuttle service was handled by Tech for the Grambling game, It ran very smoothly. 5 bucks for ten minute ride from Mall st. vincent
-
Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
So Grambling provided the shuttles for the Tech game?
-
Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
There were no shuttles for the Grambling game. I bought a parking pass to that one also. I don't know if there were Grambling people running the parking last time but I got there over an hour from kickoff and when I went to park in my zone they had assigned me they told me they were full. While driving around I noticed a lot of vehicles parked in that zone without the pass hanging and had Grambling stickers on their vehicles. Quite frustrating!!!!

Yes.
Last year was the first one I've missed in the past decade because of the downpour. The I-Bowl only runs the I-Bowl. The group running the show is now the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, and they have done absolutely nothing for this game. They haven't even had a meeting since April! Yes, April! These are the same screw-ups who lost the Top 28 last year.
Regarding ticket sales, the difference between this game and the I-Bowl is that the I-Bowl has corporate sponsors buying thousands of tickets each year. We don't have corporate sponsors buying thousands of tickets for this game or any other game. As far as selling our "allotment" of tickets, Tech and A&M would have done very well for the I-Bowl, maybe within 3K of selling out, but this isn't the I-Bowl. A&M has yet to sell their allotment of 10K tickets. The Aggies still have chairbacks available on the east side. To those saying A&M will bring 20-25K, they haven't even sold half of that amount yet. I'm expecting a turnout in the low 30K range unless we starting giving away tickets in bulk.
Essentially no tickets (2K) have been sold to locals not affiliated with Tech or A&M. Casual sports fans in Shreveport will not support Tech in any significant numbers as long as LSU is a national team. That's just reality. We just have to focus on winning our lost alumni back. If we can't get our alumni to support Tech, how can we expect the average Shreveporter to support us? Playing one game in Shreveport instead of Ruston will not win us any of their casual fans, but yet we keep trying.

Now Dawg06, I confess to usually enjoying your posts. You usually post a lot of good info on BB&B. But you really don't know what you are talking about when it comes to Texas A&M support. A&M will BLOW AWAY 10K tickets. A&M will easily travel 15K to 20K to this game (which is what I've always predicted). Furthermore, the overall game attendance will draw at least 40K.

I do know that A&M has sold less than 10K tickets so far and still have a plethora of chairbacks still available.

I don't think the Aggies made up half that crowd, but they may have (it didn't seem that way).

I know you do realize that this was for the Grambling Game - dated September 3, 2010 - but the ADD reader may think it is current.

Yes, it was in response to someone saying there were no shuttles provided for the Grambling game, after I stated I rode one of them.

The only parking passes available now are to be obtained from the State Fair of LA. Here is the low down fromthe SF of LA for parking:
"We do sell all of the parking and tailgating passes for the game. We do not have any parking spaces located near [Hirsch Coliseum] other than the White Lot or Silver Lot. The White Lot is also a tailgating lot located across the street from [Hirsch Coliseum]. Parking spots in the White Lot are $25 per space. We also have parking in the Silver Lot, which is located just in front of Independence Stadium. It is about a couple hundred yards from your location. The Silver Lot passes sell for $20 each. The general parking lot is located much further away from your tailgate space and they sell for $10 each.
If you want to park in the Fair Grounds lots "near the stadium," I would purchase a parking pass to a lot and plan on getting to the parking entrance by 4:30 PM. If the traffic blows up onto I-20 from the entrances to the Fair Ground, you could spend 15 to 30 minutes moving into the parking lots once you get there.
Several of the property owners/Churches/Fairpark HS PTSA along Greenwood Road will sell you a spot in their lots for about $5.00 - would not take your luxury vehicle to the game.

Magic # is 35K. I think we hit that by gametime as the two weeks previous sees a surge in ticket sales.

40K at least by gametime. The sense of urgency will pick up! I also know many that are waiting to walk up & purchase.

Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
I've been told to look for breaking news in the next day or two about the shuttle for the game -
It will only operate from Mall St Vincent - but it looks like there will be a shuttle

Good news. That will make it a lot easier for locals who don't get off work until 5:00 or 6:00.
I highly recommend the shuttle. It makes getting to and from the stadium easy.

Awsome! I hope they start it before 4:00!

My Shreveport knowledge is limited, but how is the area around Mall St Vincent? Has anyone experienced any issues in the past with parking there?

Your car will be fine at the mall. I've been parking there to take the shuttle to Independence Stadium for the last 10 years. No issues.

Great. Thanks '06 - that's what I wanted to hear. This shuttle information is what I've been holding out for, so I will be waiting for this news to come out soon.

That is about right. I am out of town and my husband ran by and got us a pass today.

Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
Is it necessary to buy a parking pass at the mall? Assuming the news of the shuttle is true.

No. When you get to the mall, you just pay $5/person to hop on the shuttle. You don't pay anything to ride from the stadium back to the mall.

No! You park for free @ the mall & usually pay about $5.00 for a shuttle pass. Even if it ends up being $10.00, it is still cheaper than paying for parking @ Indy Stadium & your car will be safer. The shuttles also get the right-of-way through the blocked-off streets to avoid having to sit in traffic.

Excellent, thanks y'all. I'll keep my eye on this.

Please put the crack pipe down. Most citizens in "anytown" in the State of Louisiana are corndog fans. All other teams are left to gather scraps. This list includes many LA Tech grads that are now corndog season tix holders & pay a giant TAF fee for the priviledge of renewing their season tix. While Shreve3porter's may not be die-hard sport fans, there is nobody in this town that will get excited about playing down a level. I don't want Tech to ever schedule a game against an FCS opponent. But if we must...don't play that game in Shreveport. As I stated earlier it is comprised of a large number of corndog fans.
I love playing games in Ruston as much as anybody. The real fact is that Ruston is also a corndog town. Just go to the Ruston Walmart. 50% corndog gear, 30% Grambling & 20% Tech. In our hometown. Dispicable! Not to mention the corporate support for the corndog nation. Not that it is Ruston's fault. It's years of a lack of marketing by the university & athletic department. We are behind the power curve & attempting to catch up.
As for casino's & 24 hour alcohol, name 5 fine dining establishments in Ruston. I bet you cannot. Ruston is too slow speed to bring in major business & industry (as is the entire State of Louisiana). You can educate your kids here but they will not stay here. The opportunities are too great in too many other places such as Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, New York, California, Arizona and even...yes... Shreveport.

Sad but true...one of my dreams is to help bring these businesses to North LA, but before that happens...gotta move somewhere else. Grin and bear it, and change it.

You would have to totally change the mindset of the city & being in Louisiana also hurts your chances of economic development. It will take alot of time & money. I would love to retire in Ruston...just can't afford to move their during the working years.

Only the arrogant part of me thinks I can do it alone or even see it in my lifetime. The smart part of me knows it won't, but then the arrogant part tells it to shut up.

BS! You just look @ LA Tech attendance figures in Shreveport games. Then look @ our attendance figures in Ruston. Don't forget to also scope out are W-L record at the time. I am not a corndog fan nor do I like living in Louisiana & having them shoved down my throat. But facts are facts. Everytime that we have played in Shreveport several thousands of them have supported us. Take away our 3-5k students that come to games & home attendance is pathetic. Our games in Shreveport, over the years, average around 35k.
Now if we could schedule Moo St., aTm & the like in Ruston & sell out this would be a very different conversation. But we cannot. So suck it up, put on your happy face & come & support the Dawgs on the 30th!

Then I hope you're not "sitting" in front of me because the last time I had to stand for a game in the Indy Bowl, I had to have medical procedures on both knees. Those that seem to believe that they can only yell if they are standing up have never sat next to me during a game so don't try to feed that line to me. If you want to stand then get in the back.

Re: Shuttle Info for A&M Game?
There is no way there were 39 K for the AFA GT game. Not even close. There MAY have been 25K...maybe.

Back to the reason for this thread. Is it positive that there will be a shuttle from the northeast side of the mall? I am coming from Houston and need to be sure before I set out.
