Thanks, Coach Dykes....Thanks T. Spangler. Merry Christmas!!
Fire them all.
How many extra practices did we just lose?
Pathetic!!!
How many recruits and boosters did we just lose. This is BAD.
Did Tech not get a bowl invite?
Am I missing something?
Lots of blame to go around. Sounds like this was terrible management by BVDV. Dykes and company also failed to but ourselves in a better position.
What you people don't realize is that it was the I-bowl that just shit on us. The I-bowl forced this! Anyone that attends the I-bowl from now on ought to be banned from Tech for life.
What a Mickey Mouse operation we run.
I hate to say I told you so about passing up the Indy.
Its still pretty shocking you guys get nothing though.
My question...did we turn down the I-Bowl and nothing else opened up? OR did we have an I-Bowl invitation and we chose to stay at home rather than play ULM?
Well this sucks...i know i get killed on here for supporting both tech and ulm and have degrees from both but this is sad
it sounds like you passed on the Indy hoping for something else to open up and it didn't happen.
So does anyone think that we went back to the Indy and said nevermind we will do it and they told us no?
yeah, this should be great for recruiting. so proud
The press release acts like it was just tough luck. No mention of us declining the offer.
Wow! Just Wow!. BV should be fired tonight!. But I doubt that he will be fired at all. Small time.
1) Forget yourselves and feel for those guys who put it all out there this past season, were favorites to bust the BCS, and get nothing in return.
2) In general, the fan base thought there were better opportunities than the Independence bowl, and it seems as though the administration keyed on that, gambled and lost. So...
3) Blame the coaching staff for losing 2 key games at the end of the season.
Will our BIG TIME money men give us the scoop? They sure are quiet right now. Guess they got their wishes. Probably put the nail in the Sonny Dykes coffin. We would be lucky to get anyone to coach us now. How much money and how many recruits did our cockiness cost us you think?
This.
Untwist your panties and pop a couple of midol, ladies. This was a perfect storm.
1. We finished 3rd in a conference with dwindling tie-ins.
2. We have the worst defense in the country, which kept us out of the Orange Bowl (oh, the great irony that it is the foe from our last I-Bowl who is going!).
3. Hell froze over, making nlulm bowl eligible. Normally, we would be their preferred back-up plan.
PLEASE quit spreading this tripe that we turned down the I-Bowl. We, rightly, asked for a couple of days to allow other opportunities to develop. If BVDV had accepted the first offer, there'd be folks on here calling for his resignation for not negotiating.
I hope the I-Bowl loses their shirts on this deal.
People get ahold of yourselves. We didn't turn down the I-bowl. They turned us down. We wanted more time to decide. They said no. Some of the best advice I've ever been given is if someone gives you a choice to make and insists on an immediate answer, the best course of action is to decline. I'm not saying Bruce is perfect, but if I am to understand correctly, he wasn't given a chance to make the best decision. If he had accepted the invite, and then NIU hadn't made the BCS and one of the other bowls would have been open for us, he would have been crucified for that. The fact is that once most of you have it out for someone, nothing they do will ever be right. The I-bowl looked our for their best interest, and we looked out for ours. I wouldn't have been surprised if we had accepted then they would have invited ULM. The I-bowl has never had our best interest in mind and didn't so this year. I just feel bad for the players. It would have been nice for them to have had a say, but they weren't given a chance with the time constraints put on us to decide.
Those of you who are giving the AD a pass on this are blind. The Indy bowl didn't screw us. They invited us and wanted an answer. We said, we don't really want to go to your bowl so let us see if something better comes up and get back to you. The Indy has no obligation to sit around and hope Tech comes crawling back. They moved on when Tech showed no interest. Let's say you call your buddy up and invite him to go fishing with you, he says "well I'm looking for something better to do. Let me get back to you and we'll go fishing if nothing better comes up." It would piss you off and you'd likely tell your buddy to just forget it.
I at first was very pissed and jumped to conclusions - even calling for BeeVeeDeeVee's firing via twatter.
We got cross-cut just like what happens to some girls at sorority rush. We rolled the dice and picked the wrong sorority.
Let's see if I got this right. The I-Bowl offered, we said hang on, we will get back to you. The I-Bowl didn't want or HAVE to wait. Seems like Tech is the arrogant one here, not the I-Bowl. Those of you that blame the I-Bowl, you haven't liked them since the Notre Dame-LSU decisison that set an attendance record, so your argument holds no water. You are biased and arrogant, jsut like the Tech admin....They are in a business and they did what they thought was best for them. Looks like Tech did the exact same thing, took a gamble and got beat...(just like the defense all year.)
I totally blame the administration and the coaching staff for not taking what was offered. Are they so arrogant to think something better would come about. We are not at that point yet and with decision makers like this in charge, I doubt we will ever be "big time". Many of you here think we are big time and we are not even close. Tech admin screwed up big time here....if this is in fact what took place, it is a pathetic move/decision.
This is absolutly beyond rediculious. All the sunshine pumpers can defend the admin as much as you want for taking a gamble and losing. We lost more than just a bowl opportunity this year. I hope BVDV is ashamed, this time he has definitely NOT put the best interests of the university and the athletic department first over ego. This might not be just HIS doing, and to whoever else had a hand in ensuring we got into NO BOWL GAME at all should be just as ashamed.
To Coach Dykes, I hope you hop the next train out of this one horse town and definitely best of luck in your future elsewhere. I will definitely miss him at Tech but he deserves so much better than THIS.
The biggest shame of this all is that arguably the best Tech team since becoming FBS and this talented group of Seniors will now go out with a fizzle instead of a bowl opportunity where they could at least attempt some kind of salvation.
Tonight, this administration has let down their athleates, student body and fan base. Thanks Seniors for the memories, its just a damn shame.
Wow! Tech turns down a bowl bid? Wonder if your coach got screwed out of a "bowl bonus"?
What I really want is for BVDV to give a press conference streamed on the internet/tv/radio and then write an open letter to all Tech Alumni that says, "I screwed up, I let you down, I let the team down, I didn't do my job, I will never let this happen again" I want him to own it. I want Dan Reneau to stand beside while he says it. I can handle mistakes. We're all flawed. Just own the damn thing so we can move on.
A bet we really couldn't afford to lose with the season we had. We had no right trying to bargain for more time. The players, especially the seniors deserved to go to a bowl. Also not the way to get recruits and going into a new conference...just not the way to go about "business". Shows arrogance to the rest of the world and rightly so. Tech was waiting on something better, didn't get it, so now we take our football and go home, like the "deserving spoiled child", which is what it looks like to many.
It's not "arrogance." Take a step back and look at the FACTS. We had 2 very real opportunities at much better bowls. We didn't decline anything. We asked the I-Bowl to do what pretty much every other bowl in the country was doing--let all the games be played before locking in any deals. Bruce and the admin made the RIGHT CALL given the information available at the time.
Both of these. People need to chill. Our admin did something that we often criticize them for not doing. They took a risk and reached for something better than the safe bet. We lost the bet this time.
THIS!! Other than that.....the I-bowl screwed us. Boycott the sons of bitches.
They waited on something bigger and better that didn't come. Kinda like playing craps waiting on your point to come. Win some, but lose a lot more. If it works, yeah, it's the right call, but it didn't work, so it was the wrong call. To take that chance and take a bowl game away from the players, especially the seniors was a mistake. Shows arrogance to me, that "we are more deserving" than the I-Bowl. Our program is not at that point just yet. We can't afford to (turn down, wait or whatever you want to call it) on bowl games no matter what it is or where it is. The administration can play semantics all it wants. I've read many of the stories over the past hour or so. They chose to wait, gamble on something else. It blew up in their face and for that, the kids have to be punished.
Of course, all this could have been avoided if we had any kind of defense at all and won those two last games, but that's another board.
I thought you said on another thread that you were done....gonna quit.....gonna pout off and never come back! The only reason you ever joined this board was because your son was lucky enough to be given a scholarship to my alma mater.
I really feel bad for all of us....players, coaches, admin, fans. There, however, is not one privileged groups among these. All of us have skin in this game. You are upset, but all of us are as well. There are some us on this board that have supported Tech for over 40 years.....thru some great times, and thru some very trying times. The only difference between us and someone like you is we are still here, and have never quit. It is natural to vent, but I contend that my right to post a "stupid post" has been earned.
I agree 100% with Tdawg. I guess the administration reads this board because they definitely acted out of baseless arrogance in asking the Indybowl to wait. What were they holding out for? Did they actually expect the Sugar Bowl to come calling? All of the top tier bowls that matter are always going to be filled. The rest of the bowls are basically the same so why in the hell are we trying to pick and choose? I feel so bad for Patton, Cameron, and Holley. Our athletic department let them down!
So I gather you are changing your mind, and not pouting off and quitting? Yes, LUCKY!! He was lucky enough to have a skill that allowed him to get a free college education. He did work his ASS off, I am sure. Guess what? So did I, and others that weren't talented in sports enough to get a full paid scholarship. You say he sweated in the hot Louisiana summers. So did I, except I did it in the oil fields toting 48" pipe wrenches. I did it to get enough money to subsidize my student loans that took me 10 years to pay back.
I contend you are the arrogant ass. I am glad, however, you state that "I want some folks heads to roll". I assume this means coaches, and since the offense was #1 in the nation, and the defense was dead last, that means defensive coaches, of which TS is the head honcho. Surely you cannot be happy with the performance of TS and SD (the HEAD coach). I still contend that if we would have won only one of these last two games, we would not be in this pickle.
I concede that there is plenty of blame go around, and the players are hurting, but they too have to shoulder some of this blame as well.
Take it outside, guys.
This is like Dawgs eat Dawgs! Come on you all! I am an alumnus, buy tickets & support my Dawgs. I am as sick as anybody here about what happened. But I am sicker for the players whom worked their arses off & now get no reward. Hopefully this will be a lesson to the AD, HC, Admin & alumni/fans. We are what we are. A non-AQ FBS program in a small town with small attendance (growing) & an even smaller budget (growing). We as alumni look like jackasses taking shots at everyone & everything because we don't like where we are. Let's not look like jackasses. Let's try to fix the issues that I bring up & move forward.
We are melting down because we missed an opportunity to play ulm ....
Seriously?
From the players tweeting, they are a pissed off bunch, which I don't blame them at all.
My biggest worry right now besides being laughed at across FBS, is what is the impact for recruiting?? If I were a recruit being looked at by multiple universities, would I commit to La Tech? Again, looking from outside from a recruits perspective, will the head coach be there next year? Concern about administration given what just went down from a bowl perspective?
Well we know Dykes doesn't give a damn about recruiting...unless it is for Cal or some other big money school.
We've got some things to overcome, sure. But CUSA with its five bowls and regional appeal will overcome these. Sell on CUSA and bowls.
