Coordinator Search...
Well Skip is the guy, so it's time to start talking assistants! 😃
Who ya got? We know Lucas wants Eggan back as defensive line coach. I want Ingram back as running backs coach.
I'd like to keep our up tempo offensive style with a few more wrinkles. I'm up for anything on defense.

Rattay- QB
Eggan-DL
Spangler-janitor
Perot- OL

Re: Coordinator Search...
I mentioned this in another thread. I think we should take a look at Randy Shannon for the defensive coordinator. I think he was in the middle of a mess at Miami. He tried to keep it clean. He is an amazing defensive coach, and he is an awesome recruiter. He is currently the linebackers coach at TCU.

He hasn't left yet. I believe its actually a standing offer until he knows for sure what's gout down here. That's what I was told.

Re: Coordinator Search...
I don't know if we could afford this guy (making $215k), but I think he would be worth a shot for offensive coordinator. Great recruiter, and he has coached some great talent at WR. I wonder if we did score a deal with Holtz salary due to his buy-out...

I would be good with Rattay coming in as the QB coach. I think it would be good to keep Coach Ingram, Coach Perot, and Coach Eggan.

Why not Texas A&M's Special Teams and Tight End's coach Brian Polian? Wouldn't he consider this to be an opportunity to move up to OC??

I would think DC for Polian. He has worked ST, Safeties, and Linebackers in the last couple of years. That doesn't sound bad either.

That's if Kent doesn't hire him as head coach first. He interviewed there today I believe.

Didn't know that. Thanks KS.
BTW Twitter reporting that John Simon is joining Monkens staff.

Yeah, if Monken gets his way USM is gonna have a bunch of Tech people running the show over there. How's that for karma?

Yuck. Don't remind us. Some of us are trying to get over this hire and move into positive land, so I don't want to hear about Monken building a super staff down in Hattiesburg!

Well he will. We can't stop that. What we CAN do is gave a damn good staff here though. I will be interested in seeing if the budget has increased for the coaching staff.
-
Re: Coordinator Search...
Get used to it . We missed the boat on Monken. Just remind the powers that hold the key(to the safe). Sometimes men and coaches do use foul language. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone on his staff has a TECH connection.

Why not bring back one of our own Tony Tademy--former TCU linebackers coach
He played at LaTech in the 80's and has been in the coaching profession since earning his bachelor's degree in general studies from Louisiana Tech in 1983. While an undergrad, he played linebacker and helped the Bulldogs to a pair of Independence Bowl appearances. Was well respected at TCU with at least 2 All conference LB's on his squad each of his 7 years there. The play of the linebackers was instrumental in the Horned Frogs leading the nation in total defense three of the last four seasons (2008-11).Tademy coached the 1987 season at Louisiana Tech, serving as the inside linebackers coach..

Hunt, like most WM coaches who went to Tech, doesn't try to help out the school when it comes to recruiting. Like Shows, all the coaches only try to get their players into LSUcks

Our secondary has been awful while he's been coaching them. Maybe he'll be more successful at another Tech, but I envision Red Raider fans seeing a lot of DBs chasing after wide open receivers.

We saw that a lot this season. That, and....play off the wr, let him catch the ball, then tackle him!!?? Of course...if you miss the tackle...it is a foot race to the end zone.

Re: Coordinator Search...
Throwing out a name for DC: Greg Hudson - FSU LB's
Rumor in Seminole Land is that he will either not be retained or will move to Football Operations. He was initially hired as heir-apparent to the FSU DC position once Mark Stoops left, but he hasn't panned out the way many thought he would. LB's underachieved and apparently he has had some serious personal issues. That being said, he had great defenses under Holtz at ECU.
Just sayin...

He will most likely bring in the same staff he had at USF with the only exception probably at DC. They were all fired yesterday which was timed with the hiring of Holtz at your school.

Whenever something bad in a game would occur WYHF (when you hire friends) would be posted. He is too loyal to his buddies and won't fire them even if they are under performing. Prime example is his buddy Cosh who made our defense into a sieve and was the reason for many losses, yet he still had a job until yesterday when our new coach fired them all.

So you think he is a bad coach. We get your point. Anything else?

Re: Coordinator Search...
Hey, I'm a USF Bull, I joined to give you info on what to expect with Holtz.
Allow me introduce you Holtz's main man, offensive coordinator Todd Fitch.
Fitch was Holtz's OC at UCONN, ECU, and USF, and he also was on Holtz's staff when Holtz was OC at South Carolina.
I'd bet all that I have on Todd Fitch continuing with Holtz at LA Tech. Holtz likes to hire his friends. Honestly though, Fitch isn't that bad. He runs a decent offense. His Bio page at USF is still up if you want to do a little research: http://tinyurl.com/ccm6smt

Re: Coordinator Search...
What coordinators that run the spread are even available? That we could afford?
And since their probably aren't many what WR or QB coaches that know how to run it are available? This will be very interesting. He has big shoes to fill on offense but the bar is very low on defense.
-
Re: Coordinator Search...
Your OC will be Todd Fitch, who has been Holtz's OC at UConn, ECU, and USF. That won't change, Holtz always hires his friends.

I'd like to see holtz or the oc hire either Rattay or Kubik as QB coach. Either would do well recruiting Louisiana. Both were two of the most intelligent QB's we've seen here.

I wonder. If we could get Shannon for DC and Hatcher for OC we'd be in business. Doubt we could get either. Have a feeling Holtz already has a good idea of who he wants to hire for both coordinator positions. He might be compiling lists of candidates for the position coaches though. For recruiting reasons I really hope he keeps Eggen. The man goes out and puts in work.

If he brings Fitch (his regular OC), I'm going to think we hired a snake oil salesman, and I will lose respect immediately. If he goes for a spread guy, we are about to start winning some championships.

We couldn't keep good DC's at Tech during Bicknell's watch and I attribute most of that to the administration. (I'll never forget losing Rose to Toledo.) I remember Smith did a decent job and the guy after him (Bates) who went to Northwestern. Dooley basically blasted our lack of vision and investment in the program which helped.
Anybody who trashes Bicknell does NOT understand the hands he was dealt.

I can't agree with you there. I do agree he was dealt a crappy hand but he still seemed in way over his head to me. I never liked that hire to begin with. VERY good OL coach though. And a good guy.

The big receivers that come out of these spread offenses will come to Ruston instead of the run oriented bigger schools. . In 2011 Spanglers defense gave up 23 pts game -- respectable #40 in total pts game . Playing wit Dooleys more defense oriented recruits. Incredibly easy to pile on. Coach d was awesome offense recruiter. I understand completely that coach Spangler needs to be replaced but he was dealt an under talented group of players-- in Cal interview he said he played so wide open was lean on defensive side. I am not sure how much Spangler or talent. Easy to say recruit players but how much leeway did he have?? Hopefully with 32 seniors gone we can load up on both sides of ball. Don't take this as endorsement of Spangler-- just rember having good players and a solid d in 2011 ( tons of picks and big plays)-- 23 pts allowed per game
-
Re: Coordinator Search...
I just don't see how we can responsibly keep a guy responsible for literally one of the worst defenses in NCAA history, especially considering the sos we played.

I agree. I love Tech and made 10 games including San Jose-- sat next to one of senior starters dad for a lot of games and the things he said were not flattering -- time for new coach-- just hope we can allot 12-15 scholarships for D players. We all love to see the qbs- rbs- wr sign but time to find some 3star d guys -- once we did get a 4 star d guy

I would simply ask Tony Franklin who it should be for the offensive side.
Franklin's business, http://thetonyfranklinsystem.com/, HEAVILY promotes customer success to bring in new clients. He would damn near have as much of an interest in our offense continuing success as Skip! Plus, he has great visibility of all the successful guys with his system . . . because he watches them like a hawk for promoting purposes.
Too easy.

What happens in SEC when they oversign is that they hope out of the 30 or however many they sign, they can get 25 that qualify. Those that do not are given walk-on status, grayshirted, or placed in a JUCO with the expectation they will resign with the school after they become eligible.

Geaux Dawg....if you do not think coaches are cussing refs you know nothing about college football. In case you didn't see last season if we do not run the score up we don't win. Our defense wasn't stopping much. And last of all if you want all the little sweet guys to coach you better get used to losing and sitting by yourself.

You stated we are hiring a guy to cuss out officials......that is simply not true. I know it happens......Heck, I do it from the stands. That is all I was stating.
There is a huge difference in running up the score and scoring to be competitive.........I realize the Evangel way under Dunn was the former.

Re: Coordinator Search...
I wish we could afford a QB Coach because that would suit Tim perfectly. The only realistic way I think would be to give Tim WRs or WR's and QB's. But I'm down with it. Eventually he'd be a good offensive coordinator.

Re: Coordinator Search...
I wonder if we'll have any movement by the end of the week. With the holidays and bowl season heating up, it seems like a difficult time to put together a staff quickly.

That hire ASTOUNDS me. I can't imagine anybody being worse at their job than Kevin Curtis......yet, he gets a "promotion" to an AQ school? Something is definitely wrong with this picture. Kliff Kingsbury is really showing his lack of maturity with this hire.

Re: Coordinator Search...
I know this is out of left field.......but we're thinking outside the box here. What about Joe Raymond Peace as our new DC? The former head coach at LA Tech had some of the best defenses I've ever seen, including that 1992 gang that held national champion Alabama to only 13 points, including only 6 pts which were scored by the BAMA offense.
Joe Raymond's downfall was his offense. Some of JRP's offenses were terrible. He was a defensive guy all the way. Would he come back to Tech as a DEFENSIVE guy only? (The money is much better today.)

Good thinkin, but at 67 years old and a few years out of the sport, he may not be interested or able.

Good point. I didn't realize he was that old. Wow! How time flies.

Did you think we were catching up with him?
