Tech still receives votes in coaches poll . . . Sonny fails to vote
Re: Final Coaches Poll
Roy Lang III @RoyLangIII
.@LATechFB (9-3) receives votes in final coaches poll, even w/out help of former HC Sonny Dykes, who failed to votehttp://www.shreveporttimes.com/article/20130108/SPORTS/130108021/Oregon-finishes-No-2-LSU-No-12-USA-Today-Coaches-Poll …
Three coaches, Ruffin McNeill of East Carolina, Mike MacIntyre of Colorado (and formerly of San Jose State) and Sonny Dykes of California (and formerly of Louisiana Tech), could not be reached by 1:45 a.m. ET to provide ballots.

Re: Tech still receives votes in coaches poll . . . Sonny fails to vote
5. Texas A&M
17. Utah State
21. San Jose State
(36.) Louisiana Tech

Re: Tech still receives votes in coaches poll . . . Sonny fails to vote
SD has serious problems finishing things.
-
Re: Tech still receives votes in coaches poll . . . Sonny fails to vote
Pretty shady, and I think ND should have dropped further too.
-
Re: Tech still receives votes in coaches poll . . . Sonny fails to vote
What douches... both SD and MacIntryre.
SJSU finished 4 votes behind Vandebilt at #21... they should have cracked the top 20.
Also, we could have finished perhaps at #34 ahead of Rutgers and Kent State.

A douche because he didn't vote in a postseason poll? Really?

Yes particularly for MacIntyre. It shows disrespect for his former players and the program he just left in their deserving a Top 20 ranking.
Too busy with their new programs to glance in the rear view mirror to take 15 minutes to help the legacy he helped create?

Re: Tech still receives votes in coaches poll . . . Sonny fails to vote
SID's or assistants typically handle this chore. Not sure Dykes or MacIntyre would have taken time to vote, but I wonder if the SID at their former school bothered to contact them and ask them to sign off on poll selections.

Bingo, those coaches never got the email.

Exactly. Apparently, Mr. Walsh was sleeping on the job.

My point is Pwalsh's cell# and email have not changed. If USAToday wanted him to get involved, I'm sure he would've have. If he couldn't reach Sonny D to hold his hand through the process then it's on Sonny D.
Unless you know something I don't, PWalsh doesn't work for Sonny Dykes.
What's your angle?

Okay. I've been given the skinny. Here's your answer Dell and Maddawg:
"USAToday reached out to me to make sure Skip voted. They also reached out to the Cal SID to get Sonny's ballot." PWalsh added he got the email about Skip's ballot the day after he was hired."
So . . . whose SID was not doing their job? Find something else to fiddle fart about.

Re: Tech still receives votes in coaches poll . . . Sonny fails to vote
Any coach on the panel that fails to vote in the final poll should at a minimum be excluded from the voting panel for at least two years.

After Notre Dame got Donkey Stomped in the NC game, I can't believe the coaches voted the Irish #3. WTF? How badly does Notre Dame have to lose to drop in the polls? You would think that a 4 TD ass whipping would have dropped them a few more spots.
-
Re: Tech still receives votes in coaches poll . . . Sonny fails to vote
With Notre Dame's history in polls they could lose 6 games and still be in the top 25

How far did LSPoo drop last year after the only shut-out in NC history? Don't remember, just asking.

My point was not to blame P.W., but to point out that Sonny Dykes didn't just stop caring about this poll after he changed jobs. He didn't care about this poll while he was at Tech because it was a delegated chore.
I've been upset about the way the coaches poll is run for years. Many coaches have stated that they don't look at it (translates to they don't care). There's not much we can do about that, but as RC said, if they don't vote, they should have their privileges revoked.

Totally agree. But I honestly think it was a courtesy thing given that they went 12-0. Which by the way proves the subjectiveness of these polls.

Okay. I admire S.D. for spending several minutes of his valuable time on Sunday mornings each week mulling over this poll.:icon_wink:

having watched Coach D for 3 years I am offended by your post You have no idea the genuine support he gave the team during loss of Duplessis and hard work he put in for Tech. He also kept his coaches for 3 yrs -- no one hangs around with a douche for long. Only a handfull of over avid give a crap about final season polls--they are just as worthless as preseason polls and refular season polls. Kansas state and ND could have played for national championship if polls had their way. Both coaches taking over new programs, meeting players and handicapping prospects and needs. Worthless polls last on thier list. Most of us who met Sonny -really liked his as a coach and person. Now Tubby at TT--thats a differrent story--sure he voted

I definitely do not think SD is a douche. But I also don't think he should ever call anyone out again about leaving early.

Does anyone have a quote of what he said? I tried looking back in the threads and didn't find it. I never read or heard his actual remarks but only got the gist of it from others. Could someone fill me in?

Whoa, man. I am not calling SD a douche of a person. All indications are that he is a quality person, and he did a lot of great respectful things for our university during his tenure here.
But even good people can do douchey things from time to time. His not following his obligation to vote in the final poll was a douchey act. That's all.

Re: Tech still receives votes in coaches poll . . . Sonny fails to vote
So, Sonny didn't give Tech a vote in the final pole after Tech players got him a job in Sunny California? Goes to character, if true.
-
Re: Tech still receives votes in coaches poll . . . Sonny fails to vote
This entire thread is microcosm of Tech athletics the past 30 years, always looking back and worried about the past, bitching about stupid crap that does not matter. Do some of you really care if our coach that left us voted in the final poll?
As soon as we become proactive and not reactive (and slow at that), we can succeed in athletics, conference affiliation, etc.
We are is CUSunbelt now.......that is something to be worried about!!
-
Re: Tech still receives votes in coaches poll . . . Sonny fails to vote
Okay, I will be proactive. Holtz is a douche for not taking the time to vote for us when he leaves 3 years from now for a higher paying job. There, we are improving already.

My expectations are higher than yours. I expect he will vote for us and our winning program, but will be sticking around because he is proud of the winning tradition he is involved with.:D
