Basketball court ideas
Now that we have to repaint our court with the C-USA logo, we can get rid of that emblem in the center of the court.
What are your ideas for a new court design?

Re: Basketball court ideas
Simple. Replicate Memorial Gym floor.

I'm appreciative of his donation, but the midcourt logo is butt ugly.

I echo this sentiment. Just keep his name and signature on the court.

The court is getting redone and it will be a clean simple design from what I understand.

Maybe we should have Spoon's signature on the opposite side of the court.

Keep it simple.
- Remove the "Lady Techsters" and "Bulldogs" wordmarks
- Remove the awful midcourt logo and paint a big ass state-T
- Paint the "Louisiana Tech" wordmarks on the baselines.
- Paint the lanes solid blue with the C-USA logo
- Also order more court side seats
- Place banner over the tunnel entrance
-
Re: Basketball court ideas
Sand the floor down to get the "yellow" out of the layers of sealer.

Uh, no I don't think.
If the lights were brighter it would bring out the yellow more. Not as yellow as old Memorial Gym . . . but TAC has been losing its lustre each year.
PS: Who do you think took both pix?

I went to the SJSU game in Ruston and walked around the court before the team warmed up. It's definitely very yellow. The white lines are no longer bright white.
Here's a pic from Tech's flickr account. The floor is almost as yellow as the USM player's shoes.

I agree with KISS. (my changes in bold)
- Remove the "Lady Techsters" and "Bulldogs" wordmarks and replace them with a small bulldog logo and the Lady Techsters script with Lady above Techsters
- Remove the awful midcourt logo and paint a medium sized state-T
- Paint "LA TECH" wordmarks on the baselines.
- Keep the blue gradient lanes and add the C-USA logo (and don't outline it in black like they did the WAC logo)
- Place banner over the tunnel entrance (<THIS! The curtains are bush league like our make-shift tunnel at Aillet Stadium.)
- Keep Karl Malone's signature as is.
- Do not add LATechSports.com, @LATechSports, or #WeAreLATech. (The capital A is ruining our brand, and we chant "We are... Bulldogs!)

I am in total agreement..........

Re: Basketball court ideas
Curtains are still needed at the tunnel entrances even if a banner covers the tops of the tunnels. There has to be a way to block the view of the court at certain times such as when opposing teams are practicing. I'm surprised that Tech hasn't been required to install curtains for the concourse entrances in the seating area.
The center portion of the current midcourt logo would look fine without the unneeded red outer band.
MUST use the plain state-T logo as currently exists at midcourt.
What would look better than having either a Bulldog or Lady Techsters logo on the court would be to have LOUISIANA TECH in block lettering in the endline border band on both ends of the court with the one of the two logos in the corners on either side of the block lettering.

I have no idea what to do with all of that space though for that tunnel cover. Also I'd hate to lose the faded free throw lane. It's a novel way to incorporate the two shades of blue used by the two basketball programs.
-
Re: Basketball court ideas
Adding small logos to the modified court version as I suggested earlier in the thread would just about make it perfect.
The previous version of the basketball rulebook published after the last court change had a new article added regarding consistent free throw lane coloring (applicable for both men and women)...
Rule 1 Court and Equipment
Section 6. Free Throw Lane
Art. 3. It is highly recommended that the area of the free-throw lane inside the boundary lines be one color. It is permissible for this area to be more than one color as long as all required lines in and around the lane are clearly discernable and distinguishable.
-
Re: Basketball court ideas
I'm not a huge fan of the gradient. I think that's a personal thing tho - I'm a big fan of clean simple design. I do like that it ties together Royal and Columbia Blue but I think we can find a better way to do that than a key gradient.
-
Re: Basketball court ideas
I think the lady techsters need to adopt the schools color. There I said it.
-
Re: Basketball court ideas
Honestly, I'm not against that change.

Re: Basketball court ideas
Not to piggy back on this thread but....
Any word on scoreboard, video board, or any other technology renovations for this year? I'm beginning to lump this project in with the south endzone project.

Agreed.
And any time the term "highly recommended" is found in the rulebook, I would suggest that whatever is referred to should be done that way.

I think they should release the frigg'n design.

Re: Basketball court ideas
The Smart thing to do is release the design to get fan feedback. Maybe even multiple options and let the fans choose.
-
Re: Basketball court ideas
I have always been a fan of what SMU did when they renovated Moody Coliseum. It has the same look and feel of memorial gym. And if you haven't ever been to a game a Moody Coliseum you need to check it out. It has that Hinkle Field house and Cameron Indoor feel. Hasn't been much excitement there in recent years but its a very nostalgic arena.

Re: Basketball court ideas
and just a side question...how many times can you repaint the floor while using the same wood? obviously this is the first time the court has been changed but at the same time they never changed those god awful bubble letters when we changed from the belt to wac when i was in school.

We used Sports Floor, Inc for the Robertson court.
I'm not sure how many times you can do it, but the site states below:
http://www.sportsfloorsinc.com/faq
What is the difference between sanding the floor and refinishing the floor?
When a floor is sanded a minimum of three grits of sandpaper are used. All of the seal, paint, and finish are removed. Typically, a floor should be sanded every ten years. At this point, all lines and graphics will be repainted. Likewise, whenever a floor is repaired, it should be re-sanded to maintain uniformity.
When a floor is refinished, it is simply screened and tacked, then refinished with one or two coats. Paint may be added at this time, but no paint will be removed. This should typically happen at least once a year.

Fixed it for you.. . . . I'd say it's a tad late to change designs this time. I don't want a floor that is designed at the last minute.

Your seats are much like end zone seats at pro football games. Folks just don't know what they are missing per the "sightlines" and not having to look through all of the action and players verses actually seeing it happen at "warp drive".

That's right Bill, I forgot that all ASSEMBLY Centers are round. Round buildings are better suited for multi-purpose use. A lot of events require round floors, like the circus. :)

I wonder if they chose to go the "LATECH State-T" to please Karl. I remember he wanted the whole Looney Tunes circle with Louisiana Tech on it so folks know what school it is on TV.
What are we going to do with the team chairbacks with that circular logo?

I don't mind the different logos being used. I can't think of many schools that use the same for both the football field and the basketball courts. I'm sure there are plenty that do, I just can't think of any other than Oregon right now.

Nobody to blame, how will all the haters deal with that. I think the floor is going to look great. The LATECH logo is who we now are, the state t has always only been recognizable to people who already know about tech. I hope they put LATECH on the football field too.

Would be terrible. The State-T is superior to the LaTech or LATECH loge in every possible way.

Yeah. I would say this was decided long before Bruce resigned.
