Screw it. Just fire him.
Sorry. On phone and didn't see the other thread. However, I think the subject material is worthy of multiple threads.
I agree!
I'm in. How much would we owe him?
This team is horrible!! Someone's to blame
Should have never hired this guy. If you can't win in the Big East and you're coaching a school in Florida, you can't win period.
I'm done wasting time on this team until he is gone. No need to watch the crapfest he has produced. I don't see it getting any better until he is gone.
All the above x1000.
Not surprised in offensive performance; however Higgins has played well - we simply have NO consistency on o-line. However I am surprised how poorly our defense play. This game was over after Army's first scoring drive when it became apparent pathetic we are against the option again this year.
Hope we got paid well to give up a home game for an ##s whoopin in Dallas.
Is your dad a legendary football coach? If so, you can become head football coach at LA Tech
Has Sean Payton's kid made it to junior high yet? He couldn't do any worse.
Maybe he'll have some pride and RETIRE!
You renobs are retarded -- guy inherited an offense with two returning starters. Tell me - how would Sonny's team look any different?
He's working with nothing. It's showing. He's not a miracle worker.
You give a coach a couple of years before making judgements like this. One of the biggest problems with our program is fans like you all.
Can we hire Doug Williams? Omg. Still better than holtz.
Did they know that Army runs the triple option? Defense did not look ready to defend it. Maybe it is coaching; maybe it is execution. Ether way the defense was not ready. That is on the coaching.
Did you say you all? Interesting.
Anyway, in a few years, our program could well be dead. Teams like Tech don't have years for evaluations. We made a bad hire. We needed someone young, hungry, and skilled. We got someone who is none of those things. The only way to rectify this situation is to act decisively and quickly.
This is bar-none the worst Tech team I've watched...and that's saying something.
We punted the ball with 7 minutes left. This team has no fight.
First series we ran the ball up the middle on three plays and then punted. They shoved the ball down and our throat and there was going to be no catching up. Where I blame the coach is his hesitancy to attack. Look how we played when they started throwing the ball down the field. Look how they did last week when we threw the ball. We have personnel, whether talented as last year or not, that were recruited for a passing offense. O-line has some problems yes, but play calling is not helping. Punting when down three scores with 7 minutes to go in the game is quitting (I left the game at this point, it was the first time I left a game early in over 20 years!). I think our program will head in the wrong direction if we keep this hire passed this year.
So again, remind me - how would this team be different if Dykes was still here??
You are retarded Mr. Holtz. Everyone understands we lost alot of starters last year, but a decent coach would still be able to field a decent team with the guys that are here. A well coached team would be able to beat teams like Tulane, Army, and Kansas even in a down year. People like you will continue to make excuses for why we're not winning games for the next few years, meanwhile our program will be moving into oblivion.
Who knows? Dykes' team wouldn't have been ready to play D, we know that. I bet, however, that they would've scored more points. That doesn't really matter though. This team has been totally unprepared for TWO opponents who happened to be in the bottom 1/4 of all FBS teams. You can blame that on Dykes if you want, but it doesn't change the facts. It's one thing to get beat because the other team is better than you. We are totally unprepared. There's a difference.
This team with these players would be at least 3-2 if not 4-1. Was this team ever going to be as good as last year team? No, but we would have beat Tulane, Army, and Kansas (3 of the worst teams in FBS) if he coached this team. Would not have run the ball up the middle on the first three plays of the game. We would not have waited until the 4th game of the season to throw the ball down the field if he was still here. Army would have run all over us like all options teams have done going back 20 years. But we would not have been in a hole against them. Score would have been about 31-28. You can't keep shuffling all of this off on the players. Last week we moved the ball at will by throwing to DJ Banks in the slot on the little WR screens. Did not run that once all game. Not once. Second quarter showed that Army could not stop passing game. Wasted 1 and a half quarters of football. That is coaching.
I agree with this post. Once again, LA Tech looked totally unprepared for the Army offense. Forget Dykes. This is about LA Tech players being totally unprepared. I know kids (players) are going to make mistakes in games......but I like to see those mistakes CORRECTED after a while. I don't want to sit and watch the same mistakes committed over, and over, and over again. The problem with this team is, it never gets better. They don't CORRECT their mistakes.
3-2 or 4-1?
Is everyone getting a little cocky here because we beat Illinois and Virginia last year? Tech losing to NC State and Kansas is no surprise after losing nearly our ENTIRE starting offense. Everyone's so shocked we lost to Kansas, one of the worst teams in the b12. We lost to Kansas 29-0 in 2008. Didn't even score points, let alone play them to the final play of the game. Lost to Army that year as well....
Losing to Tulane at home -- there is no excuse for this... but 3-2 is pushing your luck --
Y'all need to get your heads out of your behinds -- and remember, even though last year was great -- it wasn't greatness. Greatness is about longevity and Dykes didn't leave us ANYTHING to sustain what he built.
Puleeze. We had at least two punts today that looked like they were straight out of "kiddie league". LA Tech's punting has been a problem all year, and it hurt us again today. I told you guys 3 games ago that our punting sucked, but Maddawg argued that our punter was great. Okay. Here we sit 5 games into our season, and we're still getting multiple 20-yard punts from the same guy who gave us a 24-yd punt in game one.
This is a great example of what I mean about NOT MAKING CHANGES. LA Tech keeps making the same mistakes over and over and over. Nothing changes, but each week we still expect the scoreboard to (change).
Who recruited the punter? How much experience does he have?
I think we were prepared, just had a bad gameplan. We needed 4 LBs instead of 5 DL. The outside plays killed us again. That HAS to be a speed issue (or maybe just not enough LB's on the field).
The only positives were Higgins, Guillot, and not many mistakes. Army beat our players mano a mano. We just couldn't stop them. Knew what they were going to do and let them run us over time and time again.
Their WR were able to hold their blocks against our soft DB's, hence the pitch man was good for 8+ yards every play. Just for S & G they would gash us up the middle, but it wasn't necessary.
This post is disgusting and you should be ashamed -- it's unacceptable and a clear sign of a fair-weather fan. The fact that this is even a topic of discussion makes me sick.
Not sure why they hired this guy, I mean what has he done to deserve this position?????? I played under Bick so I can only imagine what is happening behind the scene. I really feel bad for those players. They actually have dam good players on this roster (Hunter Lee for example), so there is no reason to why this team should be performing the way they are. This team is just not well prepared week in and week out. Also, to blame Dykes for this is just crazy and actually pretty funny. I don't believe Holtz is the right coach to lead this program. Just my honest opinion.
That's because our Corner Back on one side (Liggins), NEVER ---and I mean NEVER-- would attack the line of scrimmage and make the tackle on the pitch man. To Barnes' credit, he DID attack the LOS on the other side in the 2nd half (or maybe it was after the rain delay?), and he (Barnes) had some really good stops on the pitch man.
It's not going to happen guys.
New starters this year:
QB
OT
OG
C
OG
WR
WR
WR
MLB
OLB
CB
CB
S
S
P
K
You have to give the guy a couple of years, imo.
Apologies. This THREAD is what makes me sick.
2007 - Dooley's first year, 5-7
wins over Central Arkansas, New Mexico State, a 2-10 USU team, Idaho and SJSU -- ZERO QUALITY WINS
2008 - Dooley's second year
started the season 3-4 with wins over Mississippi State, SLU, and Idaho -- losses to Kansas, Army, Boise and Hawaii
Shaped up in a weak conference and went to the IBOWL
2009 - Dooley's third year wins over Nicholls, NMSU, SJSU and Hawaii...
Finished the season 4-8
2010 - Sonny's first year
finished 5-7
2011 - started season 1-4 before going to Poinsettia Bowl
SO HOW IS THIS YEAR DIFFERENT? Quit this FIRE HOLTZ nonsense and hope we get our stuff together in conference. Support the coach, allow him to get his players and his offense working and then judge. UNTIL THEN you support your coach.
No one is blaming Dykes... but when you have 2-3 returning starters on a team that ran a very precise special gimmick offense and everyone running that offense is gone, what do you expect?
And also guys I hate to break this to you but our players didn't show up to play the last two games of last season either.... this isn't something NEW.
I see improvement from Lamar to Army. The offense is much better with Higgins at QB. No turnovers today was impressive. We didn't beat ourselves today, Army just whipped us physically. We will probably only win 2 games this year. We should be better next year. After that will depend on the recruiting.... we will lose a ton of players again in 2014.
As I said in another thread, the worst decision Skip ever made was taking the USF job. The way we view FAU and FIU is the way everyone else views USF/UCF. They are only considered for major conferences because of their media markets and everyone else in the conference who wants to recruit in Florida. The Big East schools WANTED to play in Florida to recruit -- to beat USF year after year and pipeline the kids to the northeast. Not because they thought USF would be competitive -- but rather, because the school is a joke. You think star recruits want to go to USF? Try every SEC & ACC school first and then maybe USF or UCF.
Schedule is not as favorable in 2014...
If he has less than 6 wins combined at the end of next year he will not be given a 3rd year
If its me calling the shots I sell one more home game and buy him out at the end of the year and cut our losses in the stands and in the hip pocket
Hire a young and hungry guy who wants to make a name for himself and give him the keys and let him go -
Who cares if we are a stepping stone and we are hiring a new coach every three years?
Its about winning ballgames - asmany as possible every year
Just threw this together.

Jim Leavitt was doing a pretty good job there before he messed up and got fired. He actually stated that he wanted to stay there forever and build a program. That is the kind of person we need to be hiring, or a young guy that is trying to make a name. Not someone that was fired b/c they couldn't win where they were. Chances are if you couldn't win at your previous job you're not going to start winning when you come to LA Tech.
Just watched the guys singing the fight song after a victory last year. Can you imagine being on the team this year? The coach is gone? The whole offense that rocked this run and gun - gone? The general ringing the bell - gone? The entire spirit of a winning OFFENSE --- cause you all know we had no defense -- gone? these guys have to be shell shocked. They come out with no passion, no drive because EVERYTHING leading that is gone and now there's a new coach...
give it some freaking time.
Ah yes and Jim Leavitt was a young and hungry coach....
I shouldn't be so shocked that there's a few idiots on here devoting time to this nonsense. Typical of our fan base.
You guys forget, the most important thing is... His dad is Lou Holtz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is how we hire our coaches, if we buyout Skip we will hire Lane Kiffin after he gets fired from USC.
We're prepared for that too.

Disgusting tonight. Should not have been this way.
Out of curiosity, if he were released at the end of the year, what would Tech owe him?
If you don't think SD would have put more than 16 on the board today you are nuts.
Better?

[QUOTE=DawgGoneMad;1380790]tell me how he does it. who's his qb running the system? Who's his receivers? SD didn't put points on the board. His TEAM did.[/
Exactly, I think SD could take this same group and do more with it. That is my point. He would get more out of this team.
Last one. I made the fonts a little more visible against the dark background.

Coach Holtz is getting paid by USF $500,000 not to coach for them. So what would be his reason to want to succeed? But at least we got our first million dollar coach(even though half of it is being paid by another school not to coach for them.
We must be paying Skippy not to coach us too....
Perhaps we need to keep THIS in mind when we hire the next coach. He continued on to say something about USC needing to hire a "grown up" next time.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-...05--ncaaf.html
Can we NOT hire the son of a coach next time when we fix this?
At least we didn't hire Monken. Sheesssh. 60-7 ?
For those of you who are thinking this won't happen, keep in mind that's it's happened before at Tech. In the past 40 years, we have fired two coaches before the end of their first season - one publicly and one privately. In each instance, one booster made the decision the program wasn't going in the right direction and made the decision to write the checks necessary the make the changes. It doesn't mean it will happen but it can happen.
And thank God Sonny Dykes is gone. 55-16? There are a bunch of bad coaches out there. At least we aren't getting blown out?
Lane Kiffin has been fired by USC. So, that means after Skippy is gone, guess who will hire another son of a famous coach!
I feel really bad for the USC program as well. I think we all should help out a fellow losing program in their search for a new coach. How about we all send an email referencing our choice to replace Lame Kiffin to their A.D.? I know a coach in Ruston who'd fit in great at USC!
I am very close to jumping on the fire Holtz bandwagon. I am seeing 3 things that are really bugging me:
1. The lack of emotion and intensity from the coaches and the players. The coachs don't yell at the players for there screw ups and the players do not know what it takes to win. The players and the coaches make excuses for everything that goes wrong when it is lack of being prepared and players being lazy. Dixon looks like the only guy that gives a shit.
2. Tech needs a coach with some balls. Skip is way to conservative. 4 and 2 from the 50 first drive we punt. Why not go for it and get your team excited. The kids need to get excited and Hotlz is killing them with his lack of faith. :puke::puke:
3. The lack of any consistency. This may come with playing young players but they should know their job. Do we practice blitz pickup? Did the D even practice the triple option? Safeties 10 yards off the ball every play when they are responsible for the pitchman. I don't think the coaches even game plan for a opponent.
I think I'm actually on the fire bandwagon but I want to give him a chance.
What are you smoking. USF was a ranked program at times and had wins over WVU and Auburn, FSU...
Holtz has left our program a pile of turds on fire. He will do the same to your program.
If your prior coach was a decent recruiter this will be his best year and as he brings in more of his players the team will get softer.
Oh and BTW punting with 7 min left in the game is classic Skip lol
Glad we got rid of that bum.
Not a big fan of Holtz but Sonny left this team short on talent. Next year will be even worse.
The whole Skip Holtz is a buddy buddy coach just irritates me. Come on yell at someone scare them.
Willie Fritz was my first choice....all he does is win enough to play for National Championships.
This is the easiest schedule we have had since becoming D-1A, FBS, whatever.........and we are getting pounded on by bad teams.
Our second team last year would have gone 7-5 or better with this schedule. Kansas sucks, bad. Tulane sucks, Army sucks...........There is NO JUSTIFICATION for the lack of intensity, lack of preparedness, and the lack of execution we are showing. We need to be honest with ourselves, what good recruit would want to hop on this train wreck???? While stepping on toes, I will go one further.......what has Juluke given us?? The 3 star TE from Karr is committed to USL..... We say we want TE's, he apparently is a good one.........going to USL. USL has passed right by us in just about every area in a football program, Ray Charles can see that!!!
The question is, do we allow Skippy a chance to right the ship or do we cut our HUGE loss and start over?? I do not want a new coach to have to come in and need 3 years to fix this debacle.
The lack of preparation each week by this team is truly remarkable. During the game, our defense acted as if this was the very first time they had ever seen this Army offense. What...no video? Army only has about 6 plays in their playbook, yet nobody (for Tech) covered the fullback, the QB or the pitchman on the "option" play that Army ran about a thousand times. WTH? It's for this reason I say, cut Skippy now, and cut our losses. Let's hire a good, young, coach that knows what he's doing, and knows how to recruit.
This is our 2nd team from last year.
The debacle could have been Sonny leaving the team with nothing and that debacle could take 3 years to fix
It would be very hard to find another head coach if you fire a guy who inherited a dumpster fire after 1 season.
What exactly is the buyout if that route was taken?
That route is not going to be taken, so it doesn't matter. No AD in the country would fire a guy who inherited 16 new starters after year 1. That's just insane and the professional commentators would have a field day mocking our program (again).
We have recruited too many juco offensive lineman. We need top consider playing some linemen that weigh under 300 lbs. 7 of the 10 offensive lineman in the 2 deep depth chart are jucos.
The first rule we need to go by when hiring the next coach is: Don't hire someone that got fired from another school for being a loser. They will not come to Tech and magically turn into a winner.
BS. We pay at least 500k. A hungry and confident assistant coach would take that in a heart beat. Our sitatuation with Holtz was worst, lame duck AD and Pres.
Southern Miss did it. Yeah, well catch crap just like every other non-BCS school who fires any coach, but it will be temporary.
