Ouch. I can see a bad 2-10 if we play as bad as 2013 or a great 8-4. I am guessing 4-8 "embrace the sucking", it all comes down to the offense.

Well, I get an easy away game @UAB, that's a plus. $1.2 million for the Auburn game...which I assume was replacing the @UNLV game originally? I'm struggling to see 5 wins even with some improvement. Let's hope that Manny Diaz can coach some defensive scoring. Bring on the spring game so I can be optimistic!

Hopefully we can pick up two wins against BYE.

The Schedule itself is awesome for travelling fans: 6 games in LA, 2 in AL, 1 each in MS, OK & TX, plus the VA game. 11 driveable games.

Not a "season tic holder" friendly schedule. I know we need $ but 7 on the road is hard to overcome especially after a 4-8 season. Only two of 5 homers will interest the masses. Maybe our new AD can do better but we could be 0-3 b4 we ever get to see our team at home which will really boost interest and attendance. Oh well, it is what it is......
If I'm Holtz and struggling to prove that I can coach in Ruston, this schedule does not help my chances.

This is an atrocious schedule. I couldn't be less excited about this home slate. My expectations like most of you have already showed are as low as I think I have ever had..Hope they prove me wrong.

Everyone will be disappointed with our home schedule in years USM is not there.

I think CUSA screwed us by giving us a home conference game 9/13

Nice to get the schedule out before April which is when Benson usually finished up conference game schedule. I appreciate that. I wish it was more attractive on many fronts. I wouldn't want a job with Aspire trying to sell season tickets to see us play UTEP, UTSA, WKU, or Rice. I know TM2 had nothing to do with this schedule but if this isn't the last time we play 7 road games I will be very disappointed. No reason from now on to not have 6 home games in JAS.

I was NOT in favor of buying out the ull game but if I'd have known it was going to start like that. I would have said get out NOW. To open with 3 road games is atrocious.

Hye, maybe now I can afford season tickets with only five games.

Another thought. If you throw out Auburn and Oklahoma this schedule is no harder than last years. Rice and UTSA will be about our toughest other games.

But you can't throw out Auburn and Oklahoma

I guessed I used up all of my optimism last year thinking Holtz may be a decent coach coming off a couple of bad years at USF.

Anyway, THIS SCHEDULE SUCKS! Our season will be over by the end of September. September. We will be 1-4 going into only our SECOND home game of the year and by that time nobody will care. Hell, we may have to bury Dixon by then.

CUSA has 13 schools playing football this coming season. Guess how many managed to schedule 3 away games to start the season? Correct, the Tech managed it! Embrace the schedule.

At least we do not have Marshall, MTSU, and FAU.


If we start out at 1-4, I see us with probable wins against UTEP and UAB. The rest will be toss ups at best.

We were HORRIBLE last year. We'll be much worse next year. Best case it 4-8. Worst case is 1-11. I say we win 2, but Hotz will not make it though the season.

Agreed. 5 home games against terrible teams....and playing two teams who just played in BCS games on the road. Yay!

Going by last year's teams, Old Dominion would be an 11.92-point favorite over Tech in Norfolk according to Sagarin Predictor. Also, Old Dominion should be much improved next season with more scholarships and improved recruiting since the C-USA announcement in 2012.

Last year's team would've been 3.58-point underdogs at UAB.

There are 5 or 6 guys here who are extremely negative. They have truly embraced the suck. And that does us no good at all. It's a cancer that kills energy and hurts the program. So they force the positive people to embrace the suck. I'm not going to do it.

Our high attendance mark may be the first game against Northwestern. A few years ago at the CUSA announcement if you would have told me that by this time at the 2014 season would include two road games against Oklahoma and Auburn, a road game against ULL and we would only have 5 home games I would have told you those days were over when we were doing those kind of things. We will only play one money game and a good probability that we would also be in a newly renovated JAS and anything less would be a step backwards.

Agreed, and based on our ability to lose to terrible teams, 0-5 is very possible.

Based upon last years FS1's Thursday schedule, would not be surprised if North Texas is moved (North Texas vs LA Tech or MTSU vs WKU).

ULL game will be critical. Win and we will have hope into the second half of the season. Lose and NSU will show up expecting to put the final dager in the Skip experiment.

I think you pretty much nailed it. I would say 6-6 is best case though. It would take drastic improvement by our team and some significant decline by some opponents, but it's possible. I'm expecting 2-4 wins though.

Maybe 6-6 if all the stars aligned properly and he will have earned the right to return for his third year

5-7 - I don't know, if two of the wins were against USL & NWST then I probably would be in favor of it

4-8 or worse, then I think we have to consider seriously about buying him out and moving on but in the end the Admin gives him one more year UNLESS we are embarrassed by USL or lose to NWST

3-9 and I'd be wiling to bet money he doesn't make it Monday morning following the last game

I don't think that they've ever lowered the Season ticket prices when it's 5 games vs 6. They have raised it.

If we don't win 6 next year, we have a coaching problem.

These are teams La Tech should beat in an average year: NW State, UTEP, UAB, ULL, North Texas, ODU, UTSA, and WKU.

Then Rice and USM should go either way, but I think we are more rebuilt than USM is at this point.

That wasn't an average team though. That was a clusterf.... We will have some experience and some continuity this year. Hopefully we'll look more average... not good or great, but more like an average Tech team.

I agree with this sentiment actually. This schedule, while more daunting with Auburn and OU, isn't a "OH MY" schedule. Last year's team dealt with a new offense, different defense, breaking in new players, blah blah blah, so we should see some improvements this year. If we don't see them, we know it's coaching, and we'll have to worry about that then.

I'm just disappointed in the home slate of games. This is very unappealing to season ticket buyers.

T1, love your passion!! I am surprised you set the bar at 6, but I will take it!!! Going into CUSA I felt our biggest threat long term was going to be USM, good rivalry, etc...........we better not sleep on North Texas. They worry me more than anyone else in the west, including UTSA. We better get off our ARSE, get the SEZ rolling and pronto!!!

With better offensive execution, we can win 8 games next year. OL and QB play needs to improve and we will need a healthy Dixon for every game. I like the receivers better this year. I think every game besides OU and Auburn is going to be a war.

The thing about the schedule that bothers me is having to play OU and then travel to ULL at the start of the season. We know what to expect from the most of the teams we will play. It's more about how will Tech play?

I'm still upset about a lack of home schedule and lack of quality in our home schedule. We have FOUR home games in the first 13 WEEKS of the season. One of the home games is against in state FCS foe Northwestern State, and the other three are conference games (UTEP, who was awful last season, UTSA, who has just become a full FBS member, and recent Sun Belt transfer Western Kentucky).

That is not a good schedule.

I call things like I see them and I am very very seldom wrong -

Game 2 and Game 3 are HUGE games. If we win them both, we are going to have a great season. If we split, that's OK. If we lose them both, 75% of our fans will likely give up on the program for the rest of the year and 10% will give up forever. And those are NOT easy games, but they are perceived to be easy because of recent history (they used to suck beyond belief).

I was screaming about Dykes signing Jucos and proven correct. Were you one of the ones complaining about me complaining about that?

I've been consistent in saying that Holtz should have won 6 games last year and that our weakest links were
- his conservative nature of playing not to lose
- his offensive line coach
- his unproven hire S&C coach.

Spare me the snarky personal comments. I've ignored all of them til now. Yeah, I think Holtz is a terrible coach (along with Spoon and Sim). There's no denying that. I called Holtz a terrible hire from the first moment it was rumored, and last season provided some strong evidence that I was right. Needless to say, of course I hope I'm wrong about that. However, I think Skip is ultimately responsible for our football program right now, but never have I said it was all Skip's fault.

I'm sorry you don't like what I have to say. That's fine with me. I try to be objective and real with my posts. I'm not gonna stick my head in the sand and act like nothing's wrong when there is. But to insinuate that I am doom and gloom Negative Nancy complainer all the time is hogwash. If you disagree with me, discuss why you believe your opinion is right and mine is wrong. Don't resort to petty name calling.
- Who was the biggest supporter of the Mike White hire when others weren't on board with it? I was.
- Who was the biggest supporter of the Tommy McClelland hire when others were displeased? I was.
- Who is probably the biggest Reneau defender on this board? Me.
- Who is about the only poster on here with absolutely no problem with juco recruiting? Me.
- Who never bashed BVDV or Reneau for the bowl fiasco like almost everybody on here did? Me.
- Who led all of the "Tech Trolley" stuff in Dykes last year? Me.
- Who never bashed Dooley or Dykes after they left like so many still do? Me.
- Who didn't hound the admin over the delay of the SEZ project? Me.
- Who has started more positive academic threads on here than anybody else? Me.
- Never do I bash our players. I'd never call our players "garbage" or other posters "douches" or say I "hated" our 2012 team like T1 has recently.
I could go on and on and on with all the positive stuff I post on here (or negative stuff I don't post), but you'd probably just choose to ignore it.

Obviously I like to share my opinions, but most of what I post is objective information that I choose to share with BBB. It's neither positive nor negative. It's your choice if you wanna draw negative conclusions from what I post, but that does not make what I post negative. If you are reading negativity into everything I post, then you have me totally misunderstood. I also think I use decent discretion on what I post on the open board vs. HOF BoaRD.

On the other hand, coaches and especially our admin are fair game to me because they are getting paid. Expressing displeasure about coaching is limited in what it can do, but calling out our admin usually gets their attention to make things better. I believe it's our job as fans to keep our admin accountable because if we don't, then nobody else will. I hold Tech to high standards, and I post what I post because I want what I think is best for Louisiana Tech.

The guys who are the loudest/most negative are the guys who were not happy with the hire from day 1. Y'all overlook the dumpster fire that La Tech became before he took the job and yes, you do try to blame it all on Holtz. You post our team rankings and say, "Look how bad Holtz is" while totally disregarding that we had 17 new starters and 8 of them had never played FBS football before. I don't want to rehash it though. Holtz has won 91 games in 13 years as a head coach... I think that speaks for itself. Y'all keep believing it was just luck, I think he'll get us where we need to be.

1. I didn't overlook a dumpster fire because I don't believe Holtz inherited a dumpster fire. I don't believe all our players were "garbage except for Dixon" (your words).

3. I did not totally disregard who we lost. In fact, I actually started a thread and went through every one of the so-called "32 seniors." The conclusion was that we essentially lost 8 guys. All the others either didn't contribute, or we easily replaceable. We even upgraded at a couple positions.

He was being protected by 3 OL who were invited to NFL camps and 1 of which now starts for the Chicago Bears as a rookie. He was throwing to 2 current NFL receivers. Those guys are not easily replaced, especially at a school like ours. Add to that, we tried to replace them with 2 QBs who've never played an FBS game, 3 JUCOs who've never played an FBS game and a DL from last year's team, 2 career backup WRs, one of which has shown a propensity to drop everything thrown his way, and a transfer from USF who's been hurt most of his career. As far as to who T1 and Dog06 really are....they need to realize this and apply it to themselves: I am not who I think I am. I am not who you think I am. I am who you think I think I am.

I know these are good guys here. They are just wrong. And they think I'm wrong. And it makes for passionate discussion. That's it. It's not personal with me AT ALL! But I am going to say "I told ya so" when we are bowling next year. :laugh:

BUT, we got way off of the 2014 schedule. Speaking of history, maybe this season will be historic in a pleasant way.

I think that the OU or Auburn game will be on National TV. Probably the OU game on one of the FOX channels.

"National TV" is such a relative term these days. Not many non-Sunbelt games are non-televised. JMO, but "National TV" includes...

ESPN, 2, or U
FOX Sports 1
CBSS

Regional coverage should not be considered "National TV", but even CSS is considered by most to be "National".

I don't know that I'd agree about CBSS. Not all providers carry it. I know my mom and dad have tried to watch our basketball games when they've televised, but Cox in Baton Rouge doesn't carry. Or is it CBSSN?

IF you have it, it is not regional coverage. Not everybody has ESPNU, but it is national coverage. Many people with Direct TV don't have the 4 major networks available.

CSS should never be considered national. CSS is the definition of a regional network: regional distribution and regional content. The last distribution figure I saw for CSS was only 10 million, and its content is regionalized to the southeast.

CBS Sports Network is definitely national TV. The last update I saw in October had CBS Sports Network with a distribution of 53 million homes with availability to 96 million (almost everybody with cable/satellite/iptv/etc) if they upgrade their package, and its coverage is nationwide.

The national sports networks that broadcast college sports are:
- ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC (broadcast networks)
- ESPN (98.3 million)
- ESPN2 (98.3 million)
- Fox Sports 1 (90 million)
- NBCSN (77.7 million)
- ESPNews (74.7 million)
- ESPNU (74.4 million)
- CBS Sports Network (53 million)
- Big Ten Network (52 million)
- Fox Sports 2 (40 million)
- Pac-12 Networks (30 million pre-deal with U-verse)

I like having games on FS1 but prefer the coverage of CBS sports. That being said I'll take any coverage I can get.

The only thing I (don't) miss about the ESPN family of channels are the funky days and start times to which we were relegated.

I think the OU game will be PPV based on their previous history.
