ULL Predictions

I've been looking over the stats. ULL is running the ball really well (239.7 yards per game). But we have been playing pretty good run defense (112 yards per game). Holtz said this will be the best rush offense we have played this year. Our strength vs their strength.

We have also been running the ball well (203.3 yards per game). But they have not been defending run very well (210.7). You would think Dixon should have a big day.

They do not pass the ball very well (200 yards a game), but our pass defense has not been very good (271 yards per game). Their weakness vs our weakness is interesting.

We do pass the ball well (319.3 yards per game) and they have been pretty good against the pass (210 yards per game). Another strength vs strength.

From a scrimmaging standpoint, it looks to be a pretty easy day for the offense, if we don't turn the ball over. We need to stop the run on defense and that's the biggest key to the game, imo. If they can run the ball, they can keep our offense off the field with long drives. If we force them to pass, I don't think that's what they are comfortable doing.

I think we will score a bunch: 45
And they will struggle to score more than us: 21

51-13. Without the threat of a passing game I don't see them being able to run on us. Couple that with their struggling D and I think we jump ahead early and they try to throw it to catch up resulting in 2 or 3 INTs.

It is true that we need to get the "what the crap" games out of our yearly routine. We can get that done Saturday and I will feel pretty good about the trajectory of the rest of the season.

I think, even though they "were" definitely a good team, I think our "what the heck game" was WKU. We should have won that one. We, then, couldn't finish at KSU, but played well enough to win. I think Ooh La La comes out fired up as ever, but make some really stupid mistakes due to being so amped up.

My prediction:
Dawgs: 42
Leapards: 21 (2 TD's in the 4th with our starters out)

most teams have a "what happened?" game every year. ours was NSU last year, obviously. it could happen again: ULL is certainly better than NSU. but I am hopeful our guys are focused; I hope too many upperclassman to get caught looking ahead to anything. tech wins, 34-17

I don't think they have the horses to hang with us. They will have to bring the emotion big time and pray we are flat. That's the only way it could be a close game, imo. We are just too talented and other than McGuire, they don't have anyone that can hurt us. (famous last words) :)

I'll say this again.....THIS 2015 LA Tech team hasn't learned how to SCORE POINTS yet. At least not like our teams in 2012 and 2014. Don't get me wrong. This is a good football team, but --other than Kenneth Dixon-- they are still learning how to score.

Last year, LA Tech absolutely demolished UTEP, WKU, and Rice in JAS. We must have scored over 180 points in those 3 games alone. But I don't (yet) expect THIS team to do that.

Until our WR's & DB's learn to CONTRIBUTE to the scoring, we'll continue to move the ball a lot between the 20's without earning many points. Our DB's need to grab some INT's to kill opposing drives and give LA Tech good field position. Our WR's need to just catch the darn ball in the end zone. But make no mistake.....this team hasn't learned to "cash it in" yet.

I think Holtz brought up a good point this week: we caught teams by surprise last year. They didn't know who Cody Sokol was. They didn't know what Manny Diaz would do. Now they have watched film and learned how best to approach us. They are not challenging our DBs. They are throwing quick passes due to the blitz schemes. They know what they can take (underneath routes and quick outs and RBs in the flat). Everyone is playing conservative against our defense to prevent turnovers and QB pressures. We have a huge target on our back and every coach knows how talented we are and what we are capable of. It's not 2014 anymore.

I would be worried for the same reasons you state if I didn't see the Toledo game. ULL must have lost a lot from last year because they looked completely outclassed by a team that was not so good. I think we beat them worse than last year.

I don't think it would have been smart to change things with the success we had last year. We definitely could have when Diaz left, but decided we liked that defense and promoted Baker. Baker said it's about 80% of what we did last year, but there are always some tweaks.

Probably. I was just looking at our sacks and we don't have 1 sack by a LB this year and only 1 half-sack from a DB. I think some of that can be from the quicker passes we are seeing this year, but tackles-for-loss is also down a bit too (8.1 per game last year vs 6.25 per game this year).

Absolutely! Their QBs are horrible and turn the ball over when pressured. If we sit back in coverage and only rush 3 DL again (With Dora in coverage too) I may self-combust right there on the spot.

Some of you people need to go out and run some 40 yard wind sprints .... This isn't Madden football. Real people actually need ENERGY to blitz every down. Strategically, you can t put your corners in man press every down ask ULL. That s why they were burned last week.

Tech stops the run, Dixon runs for 200 yards, and the Tech DB's get 2 more interceptions, Tech wins 48-20 again

We got our 2 INT's, but our opponents are finding it much to easy to bottle up Dixon.

Exactly. I fully expect Dixon to get 100 yards even if teams sell out to stop him. I expect him to go for 200 when they play us straight up. Maybe I ask too much.

I think we showed that we have way too many weapons for teams to do what ULL did - just contain Dixon. They did a good job of stopping him and I credit them for that, but it leaves us open for all our other offensive weapons. I think any team studying this game will realize that putting total focus on Dixon will get you beat, so......... Dixon helped us in this win just as much as if he had ran for 200 yards. Teams will have to pick their poison the rest of the year.

Dixon did an excellent job in pass protection too. He even took on one of their big DLs

Watched the game again, on video. Dixon's knee was down on that fumble. Driskel was going nuts trying to get someone's attention on the sidelines. Holtz should have burned a TO at that point in the game, giving the replay booth time to look at it.

Still, there's that old, ugly problem again with KD. Damn fumbles.

The replay booth was suppose to review the play. Apparently the same guys who manned the booth at KSt did so last night.

They also didn't review that last ULL fumble and it looked like to me he was down, too. Payback, maybe?

He sure did. Kenneth picked up the ULL blitz several times last night. He's a complete player, and the best fried Driskel has when he drops back in the pocket.
