Crown Jewel of the UL System
"...of the University of Louisiana System..."
That comment was a jewel in and of itself. 😆😆😀👍👍

Loved that and then have the 99yd run from last year as the answer to the trivia question.

I didn't hear that. Was that an announcement at the game?

Yep, during the PA pre-game announcements.

I imagine the @ Lafayette folks were unhappy with our PA people. I wonder if our Lafayette friends expected to be referred to by their "preferred" name?

Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
The ASN guys called them Louisiana Lafayette or Lafayette.

And referred to them in the score on the bottom of the screen as "UL-L".

Yes, in the pre-game notes that are handed out to media. Here is an example...

They have opponents around the country who refer to themselves as Louisiana??? :o

Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
noticed the head ref called them "lafeyette" on the coin toss.

Our own play by play PA game announcer called 'em "Lafayette" all night.

Was Keith Moreland the color guy on the broadcast? He is very good. He played football and baseball at Texas.

"There is confusion among national sports organizations as to how to refer to Louisiana Ragin Cajuns."
The only ones confused are the Cajuns.

Their use of UL and/or Louisiana is completely different than "much like our opponents around the country." At one time I thought the SBC had put an end to @ Lafayette's name nonsense. ULM should begin referring to themselves as Louisiana and demanding that sports media do, as well, "much like our opponents around the country." That would force the hand of the conference and the University of Louisiana system.

Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
I saw a ULL fan wearing a red shirt with UL on it at the game Saturday. I told him, that to my knowledge, the only school authorized to use the initials, UL is the University of Louisville!!! He had a deer in the headlights look and said nothing, so I walked away!!

Apparently so confused (or unable to write a coherent sentence) that their SID believes there are others around the country who also want to be called Louisiana. :D

It may have been because you were speaking English. :D

Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
It was almost worth their getting a first down every now and then just to hear our PA guy say " First down, Lafayette. " I swear I thought I could hear a murmur and hissy sigh of exasperation from the redshirted section every time that happened...priceless!
-
Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
From the "crowning jewel" comment, to the national Tier 1 banners, to the video highlights, to the trivia question, to the Regal Blues placement, and right down to the final score--I thought we did a great job getting in their heads and putting them in their place.
-
Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
Louisiana Tech is the "Crown Jewel" of the University of Louisiana System. And the President of the University of Louisiana System was there to hear it announced as such over the PA before the game.
We are certainly "Elite", but being the Crown Jewel of the UL System is awesome! Separation, Separation, Separation...

Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."

Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
With Tech inside its 10 yard line and they announce Dixon's 99 yard run as the Trivia winner, I was thinking ....
-
Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
On several occassions last night I notced the ULL band playing when they weren't supposed to. Several times there were conflicts between our video board (Dawgzilla) and ULL's band. So our video board operator simply turned up the volume on the video board to a level that just blasted them away. It was very funny.
-
Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
Excellent job by all involved to take as many shots as possible at them. They were just as entertaining as the game itself. The final score was the cherry on top (or maybe the final jewel on the crown)! :D

I didn't notice where the Regal Blues were. Where were they?
The other stuff was certainly well done and pointed. Very enjoyable. What is odd is that the Cajuns seem to expect everyone to accept and promote their "preferred" name. I don't know if it is true or if my memory is correct, but I think Tabby Sognier received threatening messages from the Cajun faithful because of an article she wrote. Does anyone know if this is true?
How large was the Cajun contingent? It seems they occupied a fairly large area around the eastside N 20 in the lower and upper tiers.

The Regal Blues were almost right next to the ULL players and coaches in their huddle near the ULL fans and band.

We PUNKED them, nothing PC about it and it was absolutely perfect...

I would put ULL's attendance numbers at between around 1,500 on the East side. I couldn't see the west side.

At one point after a TD, the PA announcer said in a thick cajun accent, "Dat's how we do it, yaaaaa!"

Was that after the pick-6 by Abraham to end the first half?

Did they show Abraham he was #1 like some did when Dixon ran for a 99-yard TD in Lafayette last year?
-
Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
The Cajun fans seem to realize there were "pokes" at them, which were well played. What they seem unwilling to admit is they brought this on themselves with their name game. They seem to expect other schools to aid them in their quest.
-
Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
I think we should call them University of Louisiana and help them plaster it everywhere....nothing will change until UL-M and LSU-BR get involved and us spreading the University of Louisiana hype will only help quicken LSU entrance into this situation.
and it will piss off UL-M and LSU-BR fans
-
Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
I think the Regal Blues dancing right by ULL's huddle was my favorite part of the game. I couldn't stop laughing.
The trivia question was on point, too. Loved it!
I didn't hear the "crown jewel" comment, but certainly a great job by all our guys running this game.
-
Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
Let me add this... ULL deserved every little shot of disrespect we gave them. There was no shortage of "University of Louisiana" heard over the PA in Laffy last year.
-
Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
Having been inside the stadium pregame, the comment was "Louisiana Tech is the 'Crown Jewel' of the University of Louisiana System". There was no "crowning" comment.

Something along the lines of "Lady's and gentlemen welcome to Joe Aillet Stadium on the campus of Louisiana Tech University, the crown jewel of the University of Louisiana system. Tonight's matchup etc...."

Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
Fletch even took a few jabs at them on his show this morning, basically saying that any thoughts they ever had of a rivalry with us are destroyed because we absolutely own them. Then he said that they can keep calling themselves "UL" all they want to until they see us, because that's when they always get the extra L.
-
Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
ULLLLLLLL is the new name for our friends in n Laffy. Just add a L for each loss.

Yeah, that's true but they got us several years after that 57-0.

And, as ULL fans are so quick to point out, ULM would be perfectly in its right to claim IT is Louisiana because it is simply a branding choice and there is nothing illegal about it.

Except their plant UL president(s) didn't want to allow that. Also, that is not what Swearingen agreed to when he accepted membership in the Sunbelt.

Is there still a sign somewhere in N. Louisiana that states Tech is the flagship of N. LA? I live in Texas and haven't seen it. Anyway, ULL fans go on and on about that sign on their board. If it exists, I think it is corny.
"Louisiana Tech University, the crown jewel of the University of Louisiana system" is outstanding! The university needs to use it every chance it gets.
-
Re: "The Crowning Jewel..."
Don't forget the Dawgzilla Tech trivia clip about Tech's first victory over an FBS opponent as an FBS Independent was the 1989 season opener against ULL in Lafayette.
Man, everything about last Saturday's game was great!

I'm sure he didn't agree to ULL calling themselves UL and/or Louisiana in any capacity. At least, ULM is abiding by the agreement (and the intent of the law). ULL is not.

I think that's exactly what he agreed to. Francis Thompson wrote the law, but he will be the first one to laugh in your face when you ask him about it. It was the usual political, in your face, Louisiana BS we've been seeing since Huey Long.

You may be right, but I can't see any ULM president agreeing to such as it would diminish public perception of his school. I read an article a couple weeks ago where Thompson was quoted as saying that @ Lafayette was prohibited from using UL and/or Louisiana, specifically on their jerseys or anywhere on campus. He was pretty adamant about it, but at the same time said that he would not introduce any further legislation to tighten the law. I don't remember when the article was written but I think it was a few years ago.

Swearingen had to get nlu into a conference. He sold nlu's soul to do it. Everybody knew what was happening including nlu's past president Vines, who has told the story many times.
Of course F.T. is going to say that. That's what they all say. Even Frank Hoffman, Mike Walsworth, and Bubba Chaney (All nlu grads) are afraid to buck the system. Piss off the UL board members and you start losing funding.

I believe FIM may be on to something. We should always help stir the pot.
I also believe we should always add "-BR" when referring to LSU, and possibly even add the phrase, "as opposed to LSU-Shreveport."
