We got El A Tech'd again.
This time by the new guy at Shreveport's NBC affiliate...
El A Tech took on Arkansas... http://www.arklatexhomepage.com/spor...-season-opener
Will our admin ever learn that "LA Tech" and "LATech" lead people to say "El A Tech?" :rolleyes4: It's way past time to put an end to this capital A stupidity.

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
it was 50/50 in Arkansas on latech and L.a. Tech

Thank you.
In the last 8 years, we've gone from never hearing El A Tech to hearing it all the time.
The ignorant adherence to the capital A is the biggest branding blunder in Louisiana Tech history.

Nope. Quite the opposite. Tech is inadvertently telling people to call us something Tech doesn't want to be called, and our admin is too stubborn to fix what they screwed up.
On the other hand, ULL is demanding others call them an illegal name and then throws a hissy fit when others don't give in to their demands. Not even close to the same thing.
I have no problem with the local sportscaster calling us El A Tech. It proves the point I've been making the last ~5 years is right.

I got L A Tech'd at a gas station in Fayetteville. So annoying. Tech sports media or whoever is in charge needs to reevaluate this s***.

Our peeps are going the opposite direction. We're getting away from our iconic State T logo and have added the LA - ECH on more and more "stuff".
Many of our fans don't understand what Dooley was trying to achieve...
We were going for "LahTech". It was obvious early on that EllAye Tech was replacing what was intended. A small change would have fixed it.
-
Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
That's just plain stupidity. Is this guy from out of state. He looks like Bucky the beaver.

He just got to Shreveport from West Texas a few weeks ago. He's been very good to Tech, too. He was simply reading what "LATech" media relations releases. Can't blame him.

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
You want the Lah, this is what you get.
On this particular issue, Jim Oakes was dead right.

Yes. Many (probably most) fans were not feeling good about the "Lah" attempt, but it got done by Dooley so we tried to embrace it.
Pretty sure more people said "Lah Tech" before Dooley tried to force it.

I was pleasantly surprised and very pleased at the Arkansas game when the PA announcer called us by our name "Louisiana Tech" and not Lah Tech. I have corrected my son many times about the Lah Tech vs Louisiana Tech annunciation.

Yep. I'm okay with it. I like it. Think of it as an opportunity for an "image makeover". Since we have a recent history (last 6 years) of losing over 80% of our "close" games (this is the IMPORTANT stuff), we could certainly use one.
-
Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
I don't like either. Lah-ti-dah Tech or El Ay Tech. Of course I didn''t mind Jolly Lolly Poly. I prefer Lew eese zee anna Tech. Of course some of you might prefer Lews zee anna Tech which isn't terrible. We could vote on the last two.

I have never and will never call us "Lah Tech". TECH and Louisiana TECH work just fine for me. TECH is not confusing in the local area, and if you are outside Louisiana TECH works just fine. It is all crazy to me. I have a feeling no fan at Georgia TECH would think "Gah" TECH is OK.

My only concern would be the Louisiana Technical College System. I believe they did change that system's name though, right?

Couldn't agree more. Texas folk don't call their school "Tex Tech" it is Texas Tech and they are a proud bunch. We are Louisiana Tech and prior to that Louisiana Polytechnical Institute. Never LAH Tech.

Must never been out of state. Folks call us Lah Tech (which is acceptable to me). They have seen our abbreviated name in publication or on TV as La Tech. I see where they get it. As for shorthanding our name in print media, the standard abbreviation of "La" looks better and it promotes the right pronunciation of the shorthand.
Example: Ole Miss ain't Ole MS. UMass isn't U MA.
-
Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
"La Tech" is part our brand now, and I've completely embraced it. Who cares what they call us, so long as they're talking about us.

I agree with this. We don't have an identity crisis. Louisiana Tech, Lah Tech, or L A Tech all mean the same thing. Frankly I don't care if they call us LA Neck or anything else. We don't have an identity crisis like some schools.

I don't get why the internet posters from ULM and ULL like using that. I've seen them call us uppity or snobs, but also rednecks? They need to look at themselves in the mirror, especially the ULL fans. Sheesh, those are some crazy backwoods looking folks.

Know my way around New York --speak enough Italian and French to get by -- Don't like Spain.
Walked great wall China with Grandaughter --she loves all of Italy-Ok with France but prefers London. Spent week of August in Alaska and couple day Canada
Met Friend of Rhinodawg in Daintree rainforest I am going to Australia for 3 weeks in March Did the New Zealand lord of Rings adventure last year-- I have been to Rome-Paris-Florence-London - Venice so many times I have lost track BUT still never heard anyone say LAH

There is a medicine up here called Gravol that helps with nausea. If you take one it will put you to sleep in minutes.
I've hated the Lah Tech since they first started using it in the 90's. In state I say Tech, out of state I say Louisiana Tech. No need for anything else.

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
Tech and Louisiana Tech work and I don't use anything else when speaking about our school.
Side note.....went to Zachary this past weekend to help with the flood recovery. Several of us had on our Tech gear and of course there were a couple of lsu shirt wearers. One guy asked where we were from. Upon hearing Ruston, he said, "oh yeah, isn't there a school up there?" We laughed and let it go because we knew the devastation had obviously gone to his brain. We tuned in to the ballgame while we worked and they kept asking who was winning. When we said "we are" they all said, "oh, I thought Wisconsin was up?" It took all day, but they finally acknowledged that none of us cared that lsu was playing or losing or anything. They couldn't fathom it and we all loved it. Hopefully they will always remember when those guys from Louisiana Tech came to their aid!

That was awesome that you guys could & did help. The sad thing is that the people that you are speaking of will walk away saying we met some yankees from up north that must not own tv sets or telephones. They lead such sheltered lives that they don't even get into LSU football.

You win!! Bought book travel book on Prague Saturday. Plan to go there -- they call it the new Paris. I was reacting to the " never leave state" jab. Reared in Air Force - moved every 2 yrs developed passion for travel . Dad was at Barksdale and we transferred out to Armed Force staff college my senior year -- they ended up New York but I took bus to Tech. I've done my share of dumbass things in life but coming to Tech was one of best things.
My office is a shrine to my kids and 9 grandkids--my granddaughter is coming to Tech next year and has traveled Europe and week in Bejing with me. She's also planning to fly out Sydney and meet me there during spring break.
I never plan any trip that would interfere with a Tech football game! I have my priorities
Hope I catch you at TAG one day---- your traveling experience is Awesome

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
Wow! we have some world travelers in our midst. I thought going out of country for a week+ once a year made me a world traveler, but heck, you guys rock!
Saw a post saying something negative about Spain. I have only been there twice, but enjoyed both visits immensely. Back in the early 90's we even did the Running with the Bulls thingy. Admittedly, I was kind of cowardly, when I heard the cannon fired, a half mile away announcing the bulls had been let out, I started moving with the crowd. I had told myself I was gonna run "with 'em". But, I didn't, or we didn't, my group. We never saw the bulls until after we reached the arena, and even then, we stayed close to an exit in case one of them rascals came too close. I know....shameful.
Anyway, have business associates who summer in Spain for a month. And we are invited to go and share their villa, which we plan to do for a week+. Would have already gone, but they just got A/C installed in their villa this year. So, next year, we are going. It gets awful HOT in Spain in the summer. Have to have my creature comforts, ya know. Heck, we spent 3 weeks in Rome in the month of May in an apartment without A/C some years back. NEVER AGAIN!!! That was May, before it gets terribly, terribly hot over there, and I was miserable. Nope.

Prague is great! The golden castle area is a historical heaven, and they even a torture museum and chocolate making museum! I hope to see south east Asia some day. It's great that you have such a Tech Dynasty in the family. And ditto on the TAG! I'm looking forward to my 3rd first conference away game at FIU this year (ODU and Marshall in '14). Did a roadtrip to the Virginia game in '12 and went to the A&M game that year too.

In fairness to us hijackers--the thread is about various ways people refer to Tech ... actually makes a convoluted connection-- my reaction was to a post that questioned whether I ever get out of state-- being the jerk I am I decided to respond rather than ignore... Like Rhinodawg I work for an Awesome firm that pays for 2 trips a yr basically anywhere in world and we can go meet money managers in USA.

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
I love the logos.
The Bulldog head is SO much better than that clip art crap we had before. (I admit though that the old school one I have seen floating around is pretty great!)
15 years ago my wife would write letters to TV & Radio stations around the country for calling us "Lah Tech" when we were Louisiana Tech or L. A. Tech. Something about being taught in the '90's that putting the "lah" to Tech meant someone was making Tech feminine.
Google Search of "La"- As French makes a distinction between "masculine and feminine objects", people use le for masculine things/persons and la for feminine things/persons.
This makes me curious,
If you hate "L. A." are you under 30?
If you hate "Lah" are you between 30-49?
And if you hate them both are you a grumpy old man that complains about everything? (JK, LOL!) I mean, over 50?
Me, I use "Tech" in Louisiana. And "Louisiana Tech" outside of Louisiana. Never say "Lah Tech", but have no problem with someone cutting 4 syllables on TV or radio where time is money. "L.A." is just awkward to me, but my wife says it and that is not something worth arguing with her over.
As far as the "La ech" logo, I like it A LOT! plus is gives us a horizontal logo which helps to have that option when you are working with graphics.

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
I've notice a certain radio personality along with official Tech commercials read this
LA Tech Sports (@LATechSports)
as ELLAYE Tech Sports.com
I've also noticed others who read it as LahTech Sports.com
What do you prefer? The rebranding effort was never going for the EllAye sound
-
Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
I have made my preference clear. I like Lew eeze zee anna Tech. But it's really not that important to me.
-
Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
Lah Tech was a solution in search of a problem. I guess that's what you get with precious boys from Georgia.

Louisiana Tech - best
LaTech / LATECH - acceptable
LA TECH - not preferred
LATech / LA Tech / L.A. Tech = Los Angeles Tech Beavers

Not at all the same.
We are both complaining about "nicknames".
Granted their "nickname" is trying to claim something they have no claim to.
I promise if you peruse their board you will find numerous threads with the titles: "We got ULL'ed again" or "we got Laffayette'd by ESPN" or whatever. Insecurity about what they are called is their thing. Lets not be MetooU about it.

Nope.
That is awesome story! I whined about Spain but only because I had some issues-- first time I was in Madrid with X --need I say more-- she made it miserable. Second time everyone seemed rude, finally a waiter told me that I was speaking French ( a screwed up version) and they hate the French -things got somewhat better after I just spoke English. Last time I went I was robbed-- Luggage was stolen . fortunately my granddaughter had my passport and am x card-- I am notorious for losing stuff. I did however enjoy doing the Flamenco and the Spainish women are beautiful. As you know its a country that comes alive at midnight and young folks rule--which is great unless you are ancient

Visually, LaTech is better than LATech, anyway. I prefer Louisiana Tech

Seems to be the norm for Spanish-speaking countries. Experienced that in Panama and Columbia too. But, our friends' villa is in a small town, on the coast, outside of Barcelona. It's a relatively quiet district, a "boring" neighborhood. Which is perfect for us. We can go to the disco district with all the noise and excitement, about 10 miles away, and we get tired...which admittedly is usually long before midnight...we can retire to our quiet digs.

Time to leave office, tank up and get on road to Ruston with Sportsdawg, grandson and lifelong friend -- just gave away 9 tickets to Mudbug game-- No way I miss my Dogs

While sitting in the parking lot between 6 and 9pm many things came up in discussion. One of which was the hated "Lah Tech" over the loved "L. A. Tech" by a few Louisiana Tech supporters. All were under 40 but not BB&B people! I just sat back listening until I asked, "Does anyone Read Bulldogs, Barks, & Bytes?"
It was very entertaining!

And El A Tech'd again at 10:00 on NBC6 (more like 11:00 because of SNF)

I say "Louisiana Tech." I work with a Texas Tech alum. We both simply say "Tech" when referencing our schools. Co-workers have learned to understand which Tech we are talking about. The all know about Louisiana Tech because I wear a Tech shirt at least once a week and started doing so long before we started the Loyal Blue Friday.

I check the ULL board occasionally. Many on their forum literally believe ESPN is conspiring against them regarding their name.

One of the few times we can thank lsu for pulling their weight properly...except for that corrupt dumb ass Ben McDonald who get's a kickback for the number of times he says "UL" on baseball broadcasts.

Well, I don't think these people would be caught dead in purple. But I KNOW they were in the parking lot of JAS Saturday night with Season tickets waiting for the game to start.
And you live in the East side of the state which has a totally different mindset than the West side of the state on SO MANY things! Just because people think different doesn't mean they are wrong.

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
I am taking heat from the few folks who actually like me, appears I am only person who never heard the LAH thing-- everyone of my friends infer that I am so busy running my mouth that I don't listen . I associate these comments with my X so I ignore them.
Appears I am ineligible to comment on this thread-- I am of the opinion that just because I know little or nothing about an issue does not mean I am not an authority

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
A quick "Out-of-the-Country" story I think most will like. When I travel on business or pleasure, I try and wear some form of Tech clothing. I took my family (all Tech personnel) to Rome last September, and on the day we arrived, we were looking for a place to have supper and we decided on a street café a few blocks from our motel. As I mentioned earlier I was wearing a Tech shirt. While eating I decided to take a few pictures of the family while dining. After doing that, a man from another table offered to take a family picture of us. I could tell he was an American by his accent. After taking the picture we conversed a little and then he proceeded to "apologize" to me and I asked him why and he told me that while he and his wife were from Florida, he was apologizing because his wife's brother was a football coach for ULM. Obviously he had picked up on my Tech shirt. We got a good laugh out of it. Small world indeed!

Most people on the West side of the state that I know - prefer Lah Tech - as they say - the name of song was "elle aye international airport" and they damn sure weren't talking about Ruston...

Count me as one that actually does think ESPN is "Leopard-ing" them on purpose. According to some people on their board, a ULL admin person called and chewed an ESPN exec on the proper use of "UL" and "University of Louisiana". Shortly thereafter, the Lafayette Leopard icon started to randomly appear during some of their ESPN games. Coincidence?
