Texas Tech last year averaged 59.6 pts at home and allowed 44.2 pts. They score a lot of points in Lubbock.

Apply median to the pts at home and allowed.
I bet that looks better.

I would like to see Coach Holtz do the stanky leg one time against someone... did we have a player a few years ago they was nicknamed "big snack"?

David Ward @DavidKCBD
Kliffs biggest thing that stuck out from Arkansas vs Louisiana Tech "I like their young quarterback, he was very poised in that atmopshere"
David Ward @DavidKCBD
Kliff on the Louisiana Tech football team, "They play hard, they are well coached and they won't make many mistakes"

Interesting. According to the people on the Texas Tech board, the TT RB's only gained 29 yards all night.
Here's one of the sane TT posters responding to an ASU fan:
Quote:
Thanks, but the run game is actually a big part of the offense. DeAndre Washington had almost 1,500 yards last year. The problem is that Kingsbury and Mahomes were pressing because of the atrocious defense, and just abandoned the run.
ASU is a good team, but don't expect big things from Ballage (ASU QB) just because this game. Tech constantly made RB's look like superstars last year and it has continued into this year :-(.
Methinks this could be a very, very big night for LA Tech's stable of RB's.

So who wins the NERD BOWL? I'm hoping the Tech University from Louisiana! GO DAWGS GO!
-
Re: 9/17: Texas Tech game
Call me crazy but I think we win this one. TT will throw alot of short passes and we defended those really well against Arkansas. And I don't see how they can stop our offense. We just need to play mistake free and I think we walk away with a W
-
Re: 9/17: Texas Tech game
sometimes you lose because the other team is just better. for example, i'm not sure i'd like our chances vs Alabama, although I am confident Arkansas gives them a game this year. a lot of times it comes down to style. texas tech is the kind of team that, once they get on top of you, its an avalanche. I think we will struggle Saturday. but ultimately, I think we win 7 to 8 games and go bowling. given how much we lost off last year, that is good. I like the notion that we are kind of "reloading" this year; vs holtz' first year, which was clearly rebuilding and changing philosophies.

Re: 9/17: Texas Tech game
The whole "reloading" thing is/was an excuse just in case we implode. Similar to losing 46 players after the 2012 season. Teams with a forth year HC don't need to "reload". We have a 5th year Sr at QB. We have RBs replacing Dixon who had plenty of experience. We had DBs with plenty of experience. Yes, we had to go get some LBs, but we were not actually replacing much in that area anyway.

......and one could argue that our OL and DL this year are appreciably better than last years version.
No doubt this years LA Tech team has fewer "star players" than last year, but it could end up being a better team. During the middle of last season, I said that I would be glad when Kenneth Dixon finally graduated and moved on, because I felt like we were tailoring too much of our offense around him. I felt like we became overly concerned with Kenneth's number of carries and number of TD runs, etc...instead of just being concerned with winning the games.

I'm curious about that as well. I think it bodes well for us as it brings the score down. I am worried about getting down a touchdown or two and trying to press. If we press we may turn the ball over and that is a disaster. I think weather will keep the score down which will help us out. I don't think we can win a shootout with these guys.

I'm expecting it to be like 2012 A&M if we play well, or 1990 Houston if we don't. I think they are going to get their 50+ pts, we'll have to outscore them.

Re: 9/17: Texas Tech game
Doing a little homework getting ready for the game this week and how to slow down that offense. In their 2 lowest scoring games in 2015 (LSU/WV) you would think that both teams forced a lot of turnovers. Actually they both only got 1 Int vs PM. The common denominator I could find that both teams were able to somewhat control the clock by rushing for over 300 yards. The one thing they both also did on defense(LSU gave up hidden passing yards late) was force Patrick Malhomes to beat them with his legs instead of his arm. I maybe grasping for straws here on how to slow these guys down but this is what I came up with.

I would say that we also cannot turn the ball over when we have it offensively. Defensively it will also be crucial to tackle in space.

Maybe that's "da plan." (Could be what caused the ire when a certain writer made comment on rushing plays in practice last week.)

Re: 9/17: Texas Tech game
Run the play clock down to under 10 seconds ... Run the ball consistently (3 yards and a cloud of dust). Eliminate turnovers, capitalize on turnovers. In other words, play what HD calls "boring football" and we can beat TT!

Try that on the first couple of possessions. The one thing we can't do is give them a short field by running 3 plays for 8 yards and then punting from our own 30. I do agree that we can bleed the play clock to shorten the game. We are a polar opposite of our 2012 team now. We ran less than 60 plays against Ark, right? That looks more like and NFL stat than college. As long as our plays are run well enough that sitting for 20 seconds doesn't completely give away the gameplan before every snap.

I've read that we initially declined TTU's offer to let them wear white this week, but we reconsidered late Tuesday.
It's also their Celebrate Cotton game which makes sense why TTU wants to wear white.

Harris County planted about 34,000 acres this year. That sounds like a lot and certainly looks like a lot from the road.
Lubbock County planted over 200,000 acres this year. The top 11 cotton producing counties in the US last year were within 80 miles of Lubbock.

It seems crazy that cotton has all but disappeared from North Louisiana. I remember as a kid and teenager we would play hide and go seek in the endless rows of modules that was stacked on the gin yard. There was usually an ER visit with each story lol

Yes it is crazy. Approximately 145,000 acres planted in Louisiana this year. Probably had over 500,000 acres back in the day.

Our DB's have GOT to play closer to the receivers. they can't stand 5 to 8 yards from the receivers at all times and let them catch the ball like that. If they do, Texas Tech will throw for 800 yards tonight.
