No way. Just like the quote from one of the ADs. It would be a Junior College Championship. It would be throwing in the towel and giving up.
Mandated mediocrity for us now that the A5 realize the MUST go to an 8 team playoff.
Bad bad bad idea!!!!!!!!! They are still trying to create another division.
Fake news
Other than NIU, which G5 program is behind this push?
The P5 would end up splitting ALL the bowl money. That just means $$$ games should cost them $3.5 million or so since it would be the G5's only chance to prove itself. Not a good idea at all though.
If the P5's push this through, the G5's should pull all of their programs in every sport in response.
Nothing to see here. A half backed idea at best. This will get no momentum at all without the AAC and their commish said they are playing for national championships.
I-AA.
Trying to compare a G5 playoff to the NIT completely misses the mark as a way to sell the deal. I'm all for an innovative idea that pushes money downstream but this isn't it.
nope, nope, nope
no thanks
I vote no.
Yeah, some will say, well, a G5 stands practically no chance of winning a NC in football. Then that is true of about half, and probably more, P5 programs too. You can point to Butler in recent years reaching the Final Four in hoops, and they had a legit shot of winning once they got there too. They almost beat Duke in the NC game. And say see! a non-power conference team can win a NC in a major sport. But, yes, FB is different than BB, true. Takes a lot more resources and talent-rich rosters than a good BB team requires.
Still, I'd rather be in the pool (ocean!) even as a G5 and deal with the disadvantages, then to NEVER have a chance at all. And, I don't want to compete for some watered-down version either. Here's a great example: the stupidity of what they have done to Louisiana HS football, with the split divisions. Now NO ONE will truly be state champion. This year Landry-Walker won the 5A title and Evangel won the Division I title. Both deserving champions, and both had to beat some very good teams to win it all. But, neither had to face the full pool of very good teams. Therefore, both titles are diminished.
Don't need to go there with the G5 conferences.
Since only one G5 AD has gone on the record in support of this and numerous G5 ADs have gone on record against it...
A G5 playoff would likely be more entertaining than today's playoff games.
