Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
It is almost certain now that a CUSA team will be in the Independence Bowl. The opponent will likely be a P5 ACC team.
http://www.shreveporttimes.com/story...ths/882915001/
Knowing how badly Frank Wilson- HC, Frank Scelfo- Off Coord, and Pete Golding- Def Coord want to recruit Louisiana UTSA will definitely be trying to get that bid over Tech by eliminating us. All three coaches are from Louisiana and they spend a big chunk of their time recruiting Louisiana players to UTSA. I hope we are ready to play some serious football Saturday night.

One game season. Let's see what we got.

I think if we win, we're bowling in S'port.

Regardless of whether we get a bowl invite or not, I want to see this team FINISH with a win. A 6-6 finish should now be the goal. If we get a bowl invite after beating UTSA, then great. But I don't have as much faith in the Indy Bowl leadership as some of you do, so I'm not counting on that. Besides, even if we beat UTSA and don't receive a bowl invite, I'm fine with that. We put ourselves in this position, and I've never been a fan of 6-6 teams being in bowl games anyway. Just win Saturday!

Agreed. If we make the I Bowl I will take me and my girlfriend. I wouldn’t put my friends in a position to watch our offense.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
I think the pressure to win to save the season is too much for this team and this coaching staffs to overcome.
this team doesn't have the leadership on and off the field to take them over the hump.
We crumbled when there was any pressure to win the whole season.
Really hope we can win a meaningful game this year.

I am with you on the "hope" part. For our seniors and for our team I hope they pull out a clutch win Saturday.

Indy is the best bowl for THIS team. I don't think we'd have the turnout in Dallas or NOLA as we had in the past 3 years. Those teams had an excitement factor built in that we wanted to see.
If we're in I-Bowl, a large portion of our fanbase doesn't have to travel. We just act like its a normal game day and drive to the game.

What fan base? You mean all of those thousands of fans in Shreveport/Bossier City who won't drive 75 miles to Ruston are now going out to the ghetto part of town and fill the Stadium. No way.
-
Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
We will go at some level, we will not be 40,000 strong , but we will go. I do not like the I-Bowl because of how they treated us , but I will be there . Go dogs! This assumes we win Saturday, and that is not a given looking at our record in games that mean something.

I work a mile from Independence Stadium. I will be at the game if Tech is there. We have a Junior Hockey team playing at the Hirsch that averages 3000 a game.

Yes! Another month of practice and play a 6-6 Duke one week after signing day. This year is the first that HS players can sign Dec. 20-22. I-Bowl vs an ACC P5 would help recruiting IMO.

For whatever reason, bowl games draw a separate segment of the fanbase above the normal participants. They will come out to the Independence Bowl. As for the location, I've been to Legion Field and the Cotton Bowl for games recently. It's comparable.

Same here. This is NOT the LA Tech team I want meeting up with other Louisiana teams.
-
Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
I don't think you guys understand how very bad ULLL is. Tech could run their world-famous zone-read-run offense all day on them and their DB's are just horrendous. Score would be somewhere around 52-21.

But, our DB's fall down a lot. Seriously. Our DB's gave up two TD's to UTEP last week because they apparently couldn't stand up on their 2 feet like 99% of our American population. It's the one thing Holtz expressed legitimate frustration about in his press conference this week. They do fall down a lot.

Take away one slip, likely negates 80 or whatever yards one of their TDs went for.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
If we win Saturday we need to take whatever bowl is played latest in December.
And not against a SBC team please.
-
Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
NO bowl would be much easier for me to attend because of proximity and being on a Saturday. But I would prefer the I-bowl this year. Particularly against a 6-6 ACC team. It would be a tough one for me to go to but I will make sure I am there. I don't have a good feeling about this weekend though.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
Sans the WKU win, our 2017 Dawgs haven't won a game that appears to be a toughie going in. High time we do just that!
This team has been trapped in a "funk" all year. Suffered some bad luck, and were their own worst enemy at times too. But now they stand on the threshold of being able to salvage something from this year. Beat UTSA....win a bowl game...that's the way to end the year. And that's the way our seniors should go out! Just think, if they do accomplish that. All four years in a Tech uniform they were a bowl champion!
In the bigger picture nationally. Tech is one of just 9 programs riding a three-game bowl win streak. Let's make it four in a row!

Yep, we have either been snake bit or our own worst enemy in most close games against decent teams this year. Can we cast that aside and win a big game?

my experience is we turn out great in Shreveport-- that's 75 over to Ruston and 75 back -150 miles - long (tv timeout ) games puts us back around midnight. I usually have a car load BUT have Sportsdawg drive us back-- I am the worlds greatest day driver but at 70 do not like driving at night and even worse for other folks in the car ... Sportsdawg gets the keys when we arrive at stadium. Wish you could make Tech and Tails event or Tech game in Shreveport-- we have solid crowd --- I will make almost any Bowl we invited to but Shreveport will have more fans than NO or Dallas ---

100% coaches fault. The equipment manager outfitted them with the wrong cleats and S&C guy isn’t doing enough speed ladders and footwork drills. 😀

They fall down a lot because they are overcompensating from blake baker consistently having them out of position. They all run to a deep ball or crossing route and run into each other.

That is a stretch. If the defender has the receiver covered and trips, how is that Baker's fault?
The Tech defense has played very well for the most part.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
I would like to see our offense, defense, and special teams all put an entire 4 quarters of good football together on Saturday. Then get a month of practice in, sign 10-12 of our commitments during the Dec 20-22 early signing period, and the following week beat an ACC team in the Independence Bowl.

Over on the AAC board, they say I-Bowl reps were in attendance at the Houston/Navy game. They also speculate that the I-Bowl will land one of either Duke, Virginia, Most College, or Wake Forest. Not looking too good for our Dawgs.

The Indy Bowl is reaching. The AAC has 6 tie ins with 3 other secondary tie ins. The Indy Bowl is not one of those secondary tie ins. They will have 7 teams with 6 or more wins. If Memphis is in the Access Bowl they only have 6 teams available.
-

That's supposed to say Boston College. I don't know how I managed to type Most College.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
The Idiot Bowl will love to stick it to us again. Look for them to offer a 6-6 MAC team.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
Also, keep in mind that part of what the Indy Bowl squanders money on is spending on food and travel for their committee members to watch football games all year.

Since then Tech has played in and WON three consecutive bowls, two beating P5 teams, the third a trip to New Orleans. We traveled well in all three. We've done $40 MILLION in stadium improvements.
Since then "karma" has chosen to smite them. Lost three sponsors, now on a fourth. Attendance spiraling. Their little tax proposal was slapped down once in the legislature, shot down once by the voters. Stability continues to worsen.
So how'd that work for them?
This said, a bowl in Shreveport could be good for us, good for the community. They do have some really good staff, and I hope this year launches a good relationship. The ball's in their hands. What will they choose?

Navy isn’t P5...unless you believe in the “P6”. Still a good win since they had that little 25 next to their name.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
Just passing along what is being said about USM's bowl location. An Independence Bowl representative was at our Marshall game yesterday and said USM was their choice. That was before the game. Our local beat writer from the Clarion Ledger talked with him and a player's dad that posts on our Rivals board talked to him and they both heard the same thing. Now this info is about worthless probably, but thought I would pass it along. I know the Indy Bowl is in trouble, so it would make a lot of sense to me for them to select Tech because of the crowd you guys would bring.

With the secondary agreements, I-Bowl is required to take C-USA or AAC if available.

I-bowl reps simply out enjoying games, hotels, travel, and dining and telling everyone they visit that the are number one on their invite list. They are getting around, but everyone still knows that "you have to LOSE your way into the I bowl".

We'll sure know where we stand with the bowl and the Shreveport sports powers next week though. I'm OK either way.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
Sports Illustrated says Boston vs winner Cal/Ucla at I Bowl--- problem is I Bowl has no contract with their conference. I visited with my friend who has kept the Bowl alive for ever --he says I Bowl will pick teams Saturday--end of story. He and I along with others did a lot of fund raising in past-- he wants Tech and that's that-- he pointed our getting from LA to Shreveport is tough and getting LA fan base to come to Shreveport on Dec 27th ( or anytime) will be difficult-- I am sure the folks from Boston feel the same. At least Tech will bring a passable crowd if picked

believe it or not we have strong advocates on I Bowl leaders-- they told me they will pick on Saturday-- of course the media has winner of UCLA vs Cal ( both 5-6) Friday nite would get offer--- he pointed out their is zero contract with their conference ( is with CUSA)

SI has no clue what they are talking about. That would be a breach of contract if they put a Pac 12 team over C-USA.

From my only connection to the I-Bowl I'm hearing they are drooling over the possibility to get Fla St. Vs. Texas matchup. If no Texas then Tech or ULL if they get to 6 wins. At which point I told him if Shreveport ever wants Tech to play here again they better not take a 6-6 Sun Belch team.

Good Lord... I agree! That would be considered a move JUST to spite us and a ridiculous choice over Tech. I could see anyone qualified over us outside of a belt team.

That's what may have happened in 2012. One of our regular posters I've known Since 65 (we're really that old) says he was told a week before selection weekend in 2012 by an ibowl leader of historic significance that the bowl's strategy was to give us an ultimatum to force us to take ibowl over other options. He says the fact that little insignificant LA Tech actually had options so infuriated them that in their egomania they chose to kiss away 20,000+ ticket sales and invite Ohio rather than give us 24 hours. Poor us, we've merely won three straight bowls, $40 million stadium improvement, etc since then. Man they really showed us. How's it gone for them since then? NOW there''s a chance for them to correct their mistake and establish a new relationship that would be so good for Shreveport/Bossier sports. I'll support it and triple my normal Tech bowl ticket purchases. Will I have such an opportunity?

If that happens, all the other CUSA teams are going to be really pissed at LA Tech, especially Southern Miss (not that I care what the CUSA schools think anyway.) Right now, I think USM is our big competitor for the I-Bowl slot.

Tech haters Roy Lang and Missy Setters imply that Tech is their 4th choice behind FAU, UNT, or USM.
It's amazing that Indy Bowl people still get sympathy from many Tech fans.
Their argument seems to be about hotel rooms. Apparently ticket sales don't matter.:bomb:

North Texas and USM may travel, but I don't think FAU will. Tech fans are from all over and will get just about as many hotel rooms as these three teams - PLUS sell more tickets. Do they think all Tech fans live in within an hour and a half from Shreveport?

This is not about selling tickets or hotel rooms. It's about screwing Tech, just like they enjoyed doing in 2012.

The bowl could disappear anytime, and I wouldn’t care.

CORRRECT! This is copied from lang' s item this morning: "If North Texas and Southern Miss pass on Shreveport, look for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs to make the short trip down I-20."
Thing is, our university just keeps rolling and growing and excelling here, their pissantry does nothing. Big Tech event in Bossier this week, more on the way, TONS of excitement in Shrv/Bossier about Tech, bright future. We really should NEVER have an athletic event in Shreveport again, but Tech and our high regard will soar over here anyway.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
I agree, that I can’t think of any reasonable explanation for going the UNT or USM route. I’ll take an inivitation to any of the schools mentioned over Tech as another snub by the Indy Bowl.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
Over the past three bowl seasons Louisiana Tech has gone to (and traveled very well):
Dallas
Fort Worth
New Orleans
Tech has not been to the Shreveport I-Bowl in a while. That is the "no brainer" location in the best interest of the Independence Bowl, Tech, and ESPN.

"no-brainer" describes them well, but no brains with hate for Tech makes us their 4th choice.

LOL! How ironic you used the term “no brainer.”People in Shreveport have to be some of the most ignorant I’ve ever seen when it comes to making decisions that could have had a long term positive economic impact on the area. They think they are too good for LA Tech, imagine that living in a shit hole like Shreveport.

If FSU is the opponent FAU will travel. How far would Tech fans go to play a beatable LSU on neutral field?

Yeah. FAU didn't have 10K at the conference championship game they just hosted in perfect weather. They wouldn't bring 500 fans to Shreveport. No way FAU was ever under consideration for the Indy Bowl despite RL3's dream scenario. If the Indy Bowl actually invited FAU, they would have to file for bankruptcy the next day.

Well, initially I hoped for ibowl because I thought a fresh start with Shrv would be good, and I like a couple of their staff. I was going to buy extra tickets, promote, etc. NOW I don't think I'd go under any circumstances. Fourth choice, no way for any fresh start. Just verifies what we've thought all along.
Tech's going to have a good week over here, watch the news. Losers are Shreveport sports fans related businesses.

And the ACC would of severed their contract...

That's funny. Some of us Tech fans just canceled hotel rooms this evening for the Indy Bowl because of this. Oh well.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
We got a better date, location, opponent, and venue. I have nothing against the Independence Bowl, but we probably got the best overall draw of anybody in CUSA. Can't wait!!!

I actually agree with this. I know most of the wives of you LA Tech guys are going to enjoy the Frisco/McKinney/Allen/Plano area much better than most of these inner-city bowl places. In addition to all the great things to see in Frisco (and there are a lot), please make sure that you and your wife check out the following:
- McKinney's Downtown Square (probably 12 miles away), with lot's of shops, stores, restaurants, pubs, etc... All this, and it has a kinda "Mayberry" feel to it.
- Allen's Outlet Mall on Hwy 75 (probably 10 miles away), I promise you, you and your wife have never seen an outlet mall this nice. It's got everything.
- Plano's Legacy Town Center (probably 1-3 miles away), with lots of upscale restaurants, high end shopping, pubs, and nightlife clubs.

Re: Win Saturday = Independence Bowl Bid ?
I-Bowl Wednesday 12:30PM kickoff, I don't think there will be a big local turnout for this one. Many will prob watch it on TV or not care.

I agree on a better date, location, opponent, and venue. I want the I-bowl to fold though- it sucks and their arrogance is misplaced.

I don't think either date is great. Frisco Bowl is on the last day of school for my kids before Christmas break. We'll check them out at lunch and drive over
