makes perfect sense-- after the way our corners tore SMU up in bowl game --
How can any defensive coach leave the talent he has here and a sure move to a P5 school in a year or 2 to go to work for that defensive master mind Sonny Dykes.
Money. SMU has tons.

Bring in Tank Calais (DC | East Texas Baptist Univ - Marshall, TX)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFHPhZyeQQU
We should have had him under contract.
If only we had $2M to pay our assistants like Lafayette says they have.
My vote's for Tank!
Weldon Brown is one of my all time favorites.
Pawdawg --the majority of that 2 million goes to attorney fees defending past players --and of course Jerry Balden. for those unfamiliar -- Balden was hired from Tech and ended his career at 6-27 . He sued ULL for firing him-- their has been 3 different trails over last 15 years and still going on last I heard ... why would you get fired with 27 losses and 6 wins ?? I love taking shots at ULL , they make it SO easy ... know you do also--
another name is Larry Anderson. he is in Tech football hall of fame and has 2 super bowl rings. Incredible athlete. He coached fair Park in Shreveport years ago . he is 61 and I have not heard his name in a long time .... On Steelers with Terry
Tank would be awesome! He was such a great young man when he played here and he has worked his way up at ETBU.......worth a look
Diaz insinuated in TNS article yesterday that we had a problem holding on to assistants. The history on Curtis for those who keep track...
- After his NFL career he coached juco ball until Dykes hired him at Tech in 2010.
- Texas Tech, his alma mater, hired him after the 2012 season.
- Texas Tech fired him and Holtz picked him up again. He made $100K at Tech for two seasons. Not bad for a guy who had just been fired.
- He was loyal to Dykes who was obviously desperate for a DB coach. We'll never know how much SMU paid him, but it was never about money. He owed Dykes.
Of course Diaz chose to take the easy way out and bash Tech, but offers no solutions to the perceived problem.
I'm not sure what area Curtis was responsible with, I'd bet Tank can pick it up. He probably has some good contacts in Texas and Louisiana. The guy is young and full of energy.
He has been climbing, this opening should fit him quite well.
- Former Tech football player/alumn
- All-WAC Defensive Back
- Played on 2008 I-Bowl Team
- Played Pro (CFL and AFL)
- Assistant at Morgan City and Patterson HS
- Assistant at UT-Permian Basin
- DB Coach at UTBU
- Promoted to DC at UTBU
I'm not sure what this is about (I could be reading too much into this post), I hope it's good news that he's our DB coach.

Notre Dame: Terry Joseph has been formally announced as safeties coach. He has previously coached defensive backs for Louisiana Tech, Tennessee, Nebraska, Texas A&M and North Carolina.
What was Curtus’ recruiting area?
He was here from 2007-09 under Dooley. I just posted here since Tech was mentioned.

Quote:
Joseph’s first job at the FBS level came as the secondary coach at Louisiana Tech from 2007-09. He also served as the recruiting coordinator for the Bulldogs during his time in Ruston.
Easy hire. Call DC/ST coach Calais, he's been in west and east Texas for 3 years or so. Also he spent time as FB coach in south Louisiana (Patterson and Morgan City).
Welcome to the family Coach Burris!
WOW!! thanks for the thread-- for those who did not open your link--played at Notre Dame , coached by Skip, assume position coach. He was first round Bills and lasted 10 years in NFL -then coached with Dolphins and ND .
we all know Skip is great Recruiter of players but we tend to overlook the coaches he brings to Tech.
Good hire. Really wanted Tank for selfish reasons, but he's still super young. Still, hope to have him back in some capacity at some point.
Speaking of former players coaching the former position they played at Tech... anyone know what Quin Harris is up to these days?
Good Hire....GO DAWGS!!
