Just curious, will any of the new Bulldogs be able to participate in the Spring Camp if there not enrolled at LaTech? Wondering about the Ruston High RB...
Brandon Floyd was an early enrollee and is already a LA Tech student. The other two are still on the way.

EDIT 3/13/18:
Correction- LBer's Brandon Floyd and JUCO DPOY Connor Taylor are both already at Tech for spring practices!
Early enrollees/transfers: Linebacker Connor Taylor and strong safety Brandon Floyd got their jersey numbers, No. 40 for Taylor and No. 31 for Floyd. Both have been taking reps either first or second at their respective positions.
Any word out of the Spring Camp yet?
Kam McKnight has moved (at least temporarily) to RB. In HS Kam was a very tough RB to tackle per his videos. Excellent decision coaches!!!!
On the move: Bulldog head coach Skip Holtz and running backs coach Tony Ball has to replace two 1,000-yard rushers in Boston Scott and Jarred Craft and right now, they’re giving rising senior Kam McKnight a good look in the backfield. McKnight is huge back there at 6-foot-2, 232 pounds, but he played the position at East Feliciana High School and Holtz has said he likes what he’s seen.
Speaking of Connor Taylor. He has made his presence very well known in practice! He even got Amik fired up on this one on one drill!

It was note
It was noted that Amit was getting some time as a possible kick off and punt return guy for the BULLDOGS as well!
Please don't use him for that.
I wouldn't mind so much for KO returns. He would have more time to set up blocking and pick his path. Veal does a pretty decent job at punt returns.
It's one rule that will be discussed. http://www.latechbbb.com/forum/showt...t-in-Touchback

Other proposed changes:Quote:
The NCAA Football Rules Committee on Friday proposed altering the game’s kickoff rules to allow the receiving team to fair catch the kick inside the 25-yard line and have it result in a touchback.
The committee made the proposal to address player safety on the kickoff and to address tactics that attempt to pin the receiving team close to its goal line. All other aspects of the kickoff play will remain the same.
- ban blocks below the waist > 5 yards past line of scrimmage
- pace of play - 40 second play clock after a TD (for XP). Also 40 second play clock after KO for 1st down.
- The addition of a 10-second runoff was approved when instant replay overturns the ruling on the field inside of one minute in either half and the correct ruling would not have stopped the game clock.
- The committee approved the continuation of a collaborative instant-replay decision-making model that is not limited to the press box in the stadium.
- Leaping rules on field goals and extra points were adjusted to mirror similar rules dealing with leaping the shield on punting plays. It is illegal to leap over the frame of the body of an opponent.
- On successful field goals, penalty enforcement will be the same as on made extra points. Namely, all personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct fouls by the defending team will have the option to be enforced on the ensuing kickoff.
Another practice and the new LB Connor Taylor makes another big play. Check out the one handed INT.

Was that our rockstar throwing the ball? Or is he still recovering this spring?
That pass is from the hands of number 10 or number 18. His jersey is a bit crumpled so I couldn't make the distinction.
so, our #1 QB had shoulder surgery and hadn't thrown a ball in 3 months...
I have not seen any thing about how he is doing in Spring Camp, hopefully he is out there competing!
He is out there competing.
So, do we have anyone that will challenge our QB for next year? If so, is it possible or is Skip just set on him?
Im sure he's doing fine.
[QUOTE=Dixonfor6;1691047] yep
I wasn't. I probably was in Shreveport at my brother's house for Thanksgiving dinner. Was that '66 or '67? I may be confusing the So. Miss game with the NM State game. We were trounced by both. We got payback on both in '68. Since So. Miss was in Hattiesburg in '68 it was probably them in '67 and NM State in '66. Two awful seasons.
so... what's happening at Spring practice?
We are 60% of the way through spring practice, and our SID still hasn't written a single article about it. She's fallen asleep again. :sleeping3:
USM owns us
Cory Diaz had an article in the Online Times yesterday with a short clip of Skip. Actually I just saw it this PM so it might be newer.
My TechFB friends and fans have asked about spring practice photos.
They can be viewed (and/or purchased) at this link:
Thanks!

Color me RED & BLUE! But, I'm very hopeful we're gonna have a great year in '18. The heretofore elusive 10th win? Yep! I think it will happen.
Ummm....took another look at our '18 schedule. Four tough road games: LSU, MSU, FAU, USM. Going 2-2 in those would be just fine, thanks.
Did J'Mar put on about 15 pounds? Did McKnight lose 15 pounds?
Who are the first-team RBs right now? Dancy, Flemming, McKnight, other?
It is astonishing that some of our fans have watched LA Tech football for many decades and still haven't learned that our QBs almost always significantly improve in their junior and senior seasons. Smith had one of the most productive sophomore seasons in school history; he SHOULD have a spectacular redshirt junior season (especially since the baseball distraction is finally gone).
FAU will likely have major QB problems this coming season. Last year's starter Jason Driskel, quit the team after the bowl season and announced he would no longer play football. Yep, only a junior, Driskel won 10 straight football games and then walked away to focus on his engineering studies.
To compound the problem, FAU's backup QB De'Andre Johnson, is recovering from surgery to remove blood clots from his arm. Johnson will most likely battle Chris Robison, a redshirt freshman. Robison ran the scout team after transferring to FAU from Oklahoma, where he had been dismissed from the Sooners after his arrest for public intoxication.

It's not that some of us don't know history. It's that some of us watched what appeared to be lack of ability to throw simple passes, when to run, and how to slide. He is a great athlete so some of us chalk it up to coaching. Only one of the QBs you mention was actually coached by our coaches. I'm not sure that one didn't overcome his coaching rather than learn from it. Which of the Holtz QBs improved their junior season? Also, 6-6 is not productive even for a sophomore IMO.
I'll say the same exact thing I said prior to the 2016 season when I questioned Holtz's choice of Higgins as our starting QB. And it's this: I hope Holtz is right and Smith (in this case) turns out to be a good (great?) QB and enjoys a great year. I also admitted then, and will again, Holtz was right to stay with Higgins. I hope I can say the same thing re: Smith.
We all have to hope that J'Mar Smith works out to be a great QB, and that he doesn't get injured, because Holtz has bet the farm on it. The lack of alternatives in the QB depth chart is almost unforgivable.
agree 100% -- so many posters live in a fantasy world. most of us saw the talent he has and the offers from SEC teams from high school-- not going to bring up the tired posts about injuries to team etc etc. I will take his talent and full year of experience --first time in years we are starting a gifted QB with experience in our system. No way you or I can educate the know it alls-- they wanted Higgins benched and I always trusted Tim-Skip amd various coaches-- so many posters so much smarter than Tim ..... so much for my promise to myself to ignore the folks I absolutely do not understand their attitude --
Another first for Tommy's resume... First time without a single article written about spring football practice.
Either our SID is that lazy, or Skip has gotten super secretive/paranoid like Harbaugh at Michigan.
Our HC is a micro manager and his boss (our AD) is scared of him.
All I ever asked for was A LOOK at Weston Elliot. (We never got one.) More specifically, I stated that J'Mar could have benefited from a little time on the bench last season when he was struggling, and Elliott needed the work. And I was right on BOTH accounts. Only a fool would say otherwise.
Has Elijah Walker ever even taken a single snap during a college game?
OK--I get it-- Holtz-Tim Rattay and Fitch are all wrong and you are brilliant explaining what should have happened. I feel like I am reading CNN -CNBC talking about Trump and wishing Hilliary was elected. I never posted anything about Higgins except my trust in Tim and Skip and doing same with JMar -- put me in the Fool category --that being on the side of our coaches -- no rip on Elliott -just confidence in coaches ( which definitely make me a fool in your opinion)
Offensive MVP was not given for playing defense, it was for these stats-- 15-23 and 3 TD passes --trying to help you understand how well the offense performed when we had most of them healthy -- I came into game frustrated like everyone about things but left Bowl game hoping the QB we saw that day will be the QB play we need ( especially with that defense we saw last year) -- what's the value of being negative ?? its assuming everything sucks and you desparatly want to be right!! how does that make you happy??
Yes, we get it. You were extremely happy for LA Tech to finish the season 6-6, including three embarrassing late game 1-point losses to UAB, UNT & USC, as well as suffering a double OT late, late, late, comeback loss to USM. With a record like that, it was obvious that we didn't need to change a thing or consider any other options. ;) We get it.
We had 75 players our with injuries. Only played 9 on offense.
Hearing that J’Mar and Elliott were not so fun to watch today.
That was pretty true of Elliot. As for J'Mar it there were many instances where he had a 1st down run easily, and the play had to be called dead due to him being down by a mere touch. He overthrew a few WR, and many of the ones he hit with a well thrown pass dropped the ball or couldnt grab it.
So according to our best writer, J’Mar was a bit high on most of his throws and finished 13/34. I guess we should be happy Cory Diaz didn’t have to write that he short hopped every receiver.
Beat writer.
Oh dear
For those who didn’t see it, there is a free stream on CUSA TV.
I'd sure like to hear from some people who were there about their overall impressions. I know there were some bright spots, but looking at the stats I'm concerned for next fall.
