Should be a great game in Baton Rouge.

It certainly won't be like the games in Frisco. I attended them all and was amazed at how fairly officiated those games were called vs when we play at Miss St, etc.

Gotta say I don't have high hopes. But we could well be the better team and still get the L.

Re: LA Tech @ #17 LSU Tuesday Night
This game won’t be won by Tech’s pitching, the home plate ump will be sure of that. Tech’s pitching strike zone will be at least an inch narrower inside, outside, high and low.
Tech will have to win the game by hitting the ball and playing defense. Running the bases goes without saying.

We need to start placing bets on how many times we get picked off each game.

What are the stats on that? How many times per game are we getting picked off now (what's our average?)? And how do we compare nationally? I just can't imagine that anyone is worse at running the bases than we are.

Tech has been caught stealing (including pick-offs) 24 times so far. So about 0.7 a game. That's fifth worst in Division 1 baseball.

Re: #25 LA Tech @ #17 LSU Tuesday Night
From the LSU press release...
"LSU leads the overall series, which began in 1902, 41-18. Tuesday’s game will mark just the second meeting between the schools in the last 20 seasons. LSU and Louisiana Tech last met on March 8, 2016, when the Tigers posted a 6-3 win over the Bulldogs in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman field. That 2016 contest marked the first meeting between LSU and Louisiana Tech since March 10, 1998, when the Tigers posted an 8-1 win over the Bulldogs in the original Alex Box Stadium."
From the Tech press release...
"All-time, Tech is 5-14 against the Tigers, with LSU taking the most recent meeting, 6-3, in 2016."
Somebody is missing quite a bit of history.

Nobody had any books pre-Huey Long. Thus, history could not be recorded. Same reason why USL did not have University of Louisiana properly documented. Why are you being so obtuse?

We prefer "fashionably late". Look for some hits around the 8th inning.

I’ll be surprised if we score a run. Gilbert’s opponents are hitting .338 against him, well, except us.

Not as much as you might think.
+39 RPI points (+2 positions) for a win, -27 points (-8 positions) for a loss.

With the loss Tech loses 27 RPI points. Make it a drop of 7 RPI positions from #57 to #64 with just the impact of this one game.

Can you give a loss to the offense instead of the pitcher because our pitchers dont deserve this.
-
Re: #25 LA Tech @ #17 LSU Tuesday Night
I guess it is baseball when your team can forget to show up for the game!
-
Re: #25 LA Tech @ #17 LSU Tuesday Night
See:
sometimes when playing a really strong opponent a win or a loss will increase RPI Rank and when playing a much weaker opponent a win or a loss will decrease RPI Rank.

Depends on how closely bunched teams are in RPI above and below.
Today the loss has the possibility to drop Tech more RPI positions than a win could have improved Tech's RPI position.
But a win always helps and a loss always hurts the RPI calculation just because of the 25% for a team's own weighted W-L pct.

I was never excited about the "ranking" because I know (like I did with Navy in after two losses in a row) that we are not a top 25 team.

So disappointing that Tech seemingly never wins the big game. In this case just a matter of not hitting the ball.

Re: #25 LA Tech @ #17 LSU Tuesday Night
This is the only game I've watched us this season. Can our catcher make throws to 2nd ??
-
Re: #25 LA Tech @ #17 LSU Tuesday Night
I think Labas will take a weekend spot before the season’s over. I think he’s better than Gilbert.
LSU’s hitting is not much better than ours, but our bats just weren’t working tonight.
It happens. It’s baseball.

Yeah. "Problem" tonight was Leal is a soft-throwing pitcher with what appears to be a long delivery. If he's throwing 90+ mph fastballs instead of 70 mph junk, then those guys are probably out at 2B. Clayton may have double-clutched on one or had to re-grip or something. He's usually solid behind the plate.

First game all season we didn't give away any outs, and we only struck out 3 times. Yet we got shut out. That's baseball.
-
Re: #25 LA Tech @ #17 LSU Tuesday Night
I wanted to win, but it's not like we'd earn some kind of "bragging rights" had we won. Like '06 said, they stole bases on our pitcher, not on our catcher. It would be great if we had a coach who could teach our guys how to read a pitcher w/out getting picked off.
-
Re: #25 LA Tech @ #17 LSU Tuesday Night
Other results were not favorable for Tech last night, so its RPI dropped from 57 to 68, more than the expected drop of 7 positions simply by losing.
Tech's predicted pre-conference tournament RPI is now 54, and that gives Tech only three conference losses (all to Southern Miss). Tech needs to do no worse than that to be in the at-large discussion.

The bolded shows how lazy our research is -
I'm holding a 2008 baseball media guide and it has our record against LSU as 18-40 - EXACTLY what LSU's record indicated prior to the 2015 game

It's both. Our research is lazy, and then we lie about it.
Our baseball SID should never use "all-time" because it's inaccurate, unless they are getting the info from other schools' media guides that actually have all-time records. Just admit that our media guide only goes back to 1970. "Since 1970..."

WarrenNolan added the May 9 game with Grambling to Tech's schedule as soon as the date became official.
Tech is predicted 18-3 in its last 21 games to finish 42-14 (24-6). All wins predicted except the three games at Southern Miss.

I would sign up for that today...that's a big order. 14-7 is more likely. Not sure we have the bats to pull it off...

I agree that it is a very tall order. Almost must win at least 8 of the 9 remaining home conference games to have a legitimate shot.
And even with 18-3, Tech's predicted RPI is still only at 53. 14-7 would likely put that RPI into the 60s and well on the outside of the at-large bid discussion.

Tech's final 2017 RPI was 47 with an SOS of 87. That includes all NCAA Tournament games in the calculations, so I believe it was worse on Selection Monday. But the conference regular season record was only 17-13.
-
Re: #25 LA Tech @ #17 LSU Tuesday Night
I think its fair to say the only way we are going post season is to win the tournament. I doubt our conference will get an at large bid.

Cusa will have both FAU and USM in even if they don't win the tournament. Cusa will have three in if a team other than one of those two wins the tournament.
