.@SouthernMissBSB will play the 4 p.m., game next Wednesday in the opening round of the 2018 Conference USA Championship at MGM Park in Biloxi.

If we can sweep ODU, do we need FAU to lose a game to WKU to clinch 2nd place for the tournament?

FAU loss or a cancellation would do it if Tech wins two more.

Given that FAU is going to win tonight (15-1 FAU in the 7th), two more FAU wins clinch second for the Owls by percentage points.

Thank you. It was confusing to me because they have that tied game with Rice.

Whatever seed we are, we have to win that first game. I think this team will be ready. I'm glad they were able to play in the Frisco Classic earlier this year. I think that experience will help them in the tournament. First thing first though, must sweep ODU!

There isn't a lot of difference between the 2 and 3 seed, so we just need to win!!!!!!!!!

The only difference between 2 and 3 is being guaranteed choice of being home or away in the Thursday game if we win the Wednesday game. We would not play USM either way before the finals.

There is still a mathematical chance that Charlotte catches us in the standings and makes us the 4 seed, so I’m not counting my chickens just yet.

You are correct. We have done pretty well on the road this year. It is the one year, I am glad we can't host the tournament.

So we don't actually know that those pairings are paired with those times right? 2 seed would get to choose when they would play, then 3 seed, and then 4 seed would get stuck with whatever is left?

Pretty sure above is correct

For RPI, if we are 3 seed, I’d rather play UTSA (around 105 with loss) than FIU (around 127 with win).

If 2 seed, I’d rather play Rice (around 96 with win), than UAB (~190).

Ugh. I'm guessing we would want the 12:30 game. That way if the first game goes a little long then it would be like playing a Sunday game at 1:00 pm. 9am just seems a little to early to be playing baseball. Whatever the time, we have to bring full intensity for all games. One good thing about this team is that it seems to play better on the road and in hostile environments.

How is the tie counted for fau? If it’s counted as the game never being played, we would have a worse winning pct than fau and be the three.

I agree...I did not want to play them first round. They have much more experience at this than we do. Plus, they have one of the best coaches of all time, he may be 104 years old, but he is one of the best all time.

Weather not looking good for the Mississippi coast into the weekend. A slow-moving tropical system could make things iffy Saturday and Sunday.

According to the last conference handbook I have seen, the highest remaining seed gets the NCAA bid if the tournament cannot be completed by Sunday night.

Does that mean highest remaining over all, or highest and in the winners bracket?

Inability to Play Due to Unforeseen Circumstances.
If unforeseen circumstances makes it impossible to complete a championship game, the Conference Commissioner or designee is authorized to determine which team(s) shall advance in the Championship. If it is impossible to complete the Championship, the Commissioner is authorized to declare the tournament champion and recipient of the Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. If the Championship is cancelled prior to the final game, no champion will be declared and the recipient of the automatic bid shall be the highest remaining seed. If only the championship game is cancelled, co-champions will be awarded and the automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship will go to the highest remaining seed.

Rain Conditions.
Every effort should be made to complete all scheduled games in the Championship. The Conference representative and Tournament Director will control the start of games under rain conditions. If rain delays games to the point where the Championship cannot be completed by Sunday night, with no more than four games in a day and a team playing no more than two games a day, the Championship format will change to single elimination.

Well, it wouldn't be a surprise if they did!

Coach needs to be out of his mind tuned in from this point forward. Whatever he would typically do, do the opposite. Take risks, but not stupid stuff. Guys need to be alert on the bases and not get picked off with 2 on and nobody out. Clean, smart baseball. Surely that’s not too big of an ask.

I agree, Leal puts so much pressure on our defense with his slow delivery...

Leal's weakness is holding guys on base. He is almost a gimme to steal 2nd. He was terrible against LSU, came back his next start and did a much better job of holding guys close on 1st, but since then a little inconsistent. Got a feeling we pitch Leal Wednesday, hoping to pitch Bailey in game 2. I think the key to this tourney is our offense. We will need to average 7-8 runs per game to compete - our bullpen down the stretch has been very inconsistent. Hoping all of our bats get hot at the same time!

I agree with on offense -

Our bats have to be hot to win...

Something else that really bothered me Saturday was all the throwing errors. We fielded the ball cleanly and made some horrible throws. Of course Robinson gunned a guy out at home and Mallard got the out at 3rd. Clayton picked off the guy at 2nd. Those were great plays, but we don’t need to depend on that.

I'll be in Hattiesburg this weekend fixing up our new house. If TECH gets to the championship, especially if its against USM, I should be able to make it down. Go dogs!

We match-up really well against Rice. All our lefty pitchers vs. all their lefty hitters. We've pretty much owned Rice the last 3 years (Tech is 9-3 vs. Rice, I think), and we've hammered their aces. And we needed a Top 100 opponent for our resume instead of a bad team like UAB.

On the coaches show, Burroughs said probably Leal on Wednesday, if he feels good. Bailey will get the ball on Thursday.

The weather forecast is still ominous for this week in Biloxi. Expect many rain/lightning delays. The Saturday and Sunday forecasts look almost unplayable at the moment. Per Weather Underground, the thunderstorm chances don't drop below 51% at any single hour all weekend! Yikes!

Yep and if Rice throws their ace and he keeps the score low then those gimme stolen bases will be crucial. Rice's ace has struck out a bunch and if he is on and can go deep in the game EVERY run scored or given up will be critical.
