CUSA announced tonight the game has been moved to Legion Field.
At 11 am?
Sounds logical for CUAB!
I hope we trample UAB into the ground. I don't like UNT, but I detest UAB.
If the Dawgs aren't ready to rip the Blazers a new one....nothing will get them fired up. Ironic we won tonight like we lost last year to....dem guys.
West CONF OVR Louisiana Tech 1-0 3-1 UAB 1-0 3-1 Southern Mississippi 1-0 2-2 UTSA 1-0 2-3 North Texas 0-1 4-1 Rice 0-1 1-4 UTEP 0-1 0-5
I want to beat UAB's azzz! LA Tech was repeatedly cheated at Legion Field last year. Here's just one (1) example:
That game was still the only time I've ever seen a football team receive a 15-yd "unsportsmanlike" conduct dead ball foul penalty because our WR (McKnight) stood up and made the 1st down signal (pointed 1st down) after making a tremendous catch and achieving the 1st down deep in UAB territory. That single penalty changed everything. LA Tech went from having a 1st down and 10 around UAB's 25 or 30 yd-line to suddenly replaying 3rd down and 25 (with penalty) or so. It killed our drive and any chances we had of scoring on that drive.
Before last year's game against UAB, I had seen at least 100 players make that same 1st down signal after a 1st down catch, without penalty. And since that game, I've see it about 50 more times, without penalty. Those referees in Birmingham literally cheated us, and I WANT PAYBACK.
Our D better learn to tackle against UAB........their RB could go for 200
Happened to us in Lafayette in 1999, that 41-31 win over the Cajuns and their homespun, Boudreaux! refs. James Jordan had been held, interfered with, tackled! all night. With the game still very much in doubt, early 4th qtr, Jordan made a great catch even with a USL defender practically undressing him. Out of frustration he stood up, ball in hand, and pointed the "first down" motion. Flags!!! Bicknell went ballistic too, and he got tagged for another "unsportsmanlike" penalty. 30 yards just like that! But, it resulted in a 1st and 10, so we just drove the ball downfield and scored a TD anyway. That night we were flagged 19 times for over 200 yards in penalties. At the time someone in the media, maybe the Shreveport Times did some research to see if that was some kind of record. It wasn't. In fact it put us 3rd on the all-time list, behind Oklahoma, 2nd, and Grambling State, 1st! Since then, and that's been 20 years, we have been pushed further down that list.
We are a 7 pt favorite.
I hope so too, but to this point, Holtz needs 3-4 weeks off to get his team ready to play anything close to 4 quarters.
Not necessarily. If the pundits think we're, say 5 pts better, they would only be 2 pts favored at home. -5 + 7 = -2
But, you and D65, have been citing Vegas. I could care less what Vegas thinks. I don't know what algorithms they use, or what values they assign different factors. I posted the site I base my contention on. Vegas does things...like set odds...for gambling reasons. That's their goal, not actually trying to evaluate the relative quality of teams or the effect(s) of the location of the game.
Don't underestimate these guys. They were more than we could handle last year in Birmingham and the winner of Saturday's game will likely host the CUAB Championship game.

Guys, guys, guys. No worries. Coach Field Goal will go for the throat instead of relying on special teams.
Is Antee scheduled to call the game?
Do we Anatee again?

I had none at North Texas, the flag that wasn't a flag i didn't understand .
Another was the no timeout before the 2-pt attempt. Luckily we stopped them.

They missed last week. I thought it was off by about 4, which is a big miss for this time of the year. This week is pretty close IMO.
When I looked yesterday, it had opened at 7 and apparently went to 8+ almost immediately. Some big money went on Tech quick.
It's Monday morning, is Tech marketing this game via social media?
People are making plans before then, should be today and capitalise on our win!
With two weeks on the road, they had a lot of time to build marketing content for this UAB game. Its baffeling that they didn't put anything out on Monday AM. No hype video, no graphics or ads.
I follow Matt Lange (UT Austin), they are already promoting their upcoming game putting out this awesome graphic this morning. I don't know what our folks are doing.

we had some great calls our way ( only one penalty )-- they did great job on the "no touchdown " review-- Amik mad the tackle on half yard line.
I am still hyped about Saturday game-- my first bet in several years but I followed my own recommendation -- put 200 on Tech with line and over/under --how weird that vegas had over under at 56 and it was 56 --so a push --
TMac and Co are on fire promoting the upcoming game with zero mentions or ads on social media. Such cheap advertising and they fail at it.

Hey, I got my email.
We're going to have to send T-Mac to do an internship at UNT for a couple of weeks so he can learn how to market to fans.
You know who is promoting the events surrounding the game? The city of Ruston. Hear it every time I turn on the radio. They had a special with a local tv station yesterday morning at railroad park. Regal blues were at railroad park for it dancing at like 7 am. Good for the city. Pretty pathetic that athletic department is getting out promoted by the city.

#3 passing defense. Uh oh... either they've played a bunch of running teams or J'Mar will struggle this week.
I think they played mostly running teams and their first game of the season with powerhouse Savannah State (23 passing yards) pad the stats.
UAB vs Opponents (Passing Offense Rankings)
#-- Savannah State
#110 Coastal
#99 Tulane
#84 Charlotte
#21 Louisiana Tech

#42 Tulane
#107 Charlotte
#87 Louisiana Tech
Good research. They are not really prepared for our receivers, imo.
We have a stat padded game in Southern putting up 427 yards in the air, but we did putt up 330 passing yards @LSU. We will be their most challenging offensive opponent.
A stat we are doing well in is fewest penalties. Take into account we played 3 road games @USA, @LSU, @UNT. Also, last week we were up against Ken Antee. That's pretty damn good.
Louisiana Tech (NCAA Rankings)
#4 Fewest Penalties
#8 Fewest Penalties Per Game
#5 Fewest Penalty Yards
#7 Fewest Penalty Yards Per Game
We are #1 in Red Zone Offense (17/17 with 11 TD's and 6 FG's). Tied with 12 other teams though... still nice to be #1.
We are doing good in sacks by our defense (Top 10). UAB is doing better than us and they haven't really played a passing team yet (:shocked2:). I wonder if they blitz a lot?
seldom fuss about refs but I felt that refs wanted UAB to win a game after their rebooting ... even worse when we play them in BB- like you I never have seen penalty on what I call the Bobbie Slaughter celebration ( he never received penalty) -- refs deserved the Earl Thomas salute
Love the posters on BlazerTalk [Thread: What La Tech is Saying]
"We never should have let them in the conference. The only thing they had going for them was women basketball tradition and now its no big deal. Plus you have to go to the only place that's a bigger armpit than Hattiesburg to play"
"How dare you speak of tropical and exotic Ruston, Louisiana that way?!?!?!"

so confused...
Just wear green and gold for UAB game, orange and blue for UTEP, blue and white for Rice, and red and silver for WKU.
I love the sponsor is still TBD.
No idea what we are having.
Their coach is either blowing smoke up our skirts (a kilt for me, thanks), or is the biggest dumb chit in coaching history:
On trying to stop Louisiana Tech's quarterback J'Mar Smith:
"Like a lot of the other quarterbacks, he is good with both the run and the pass. He can throw the ball extremely well and he can also run. Our pass lanes have to be filled by our defensive line and we have to have integrity to cover our man the whole time, knowing that eventually our line will get there. We have to be prepared up front and on the back end."
He is good with the run? J'Mar Smith? Does that UAB coach actually watch video of opposing teams?
We were doing well last year penalty-wise too until the UAB game, when we got hit with 10 penalties for 95 yards (and that excludes the ones UAB refused). After each of our big plays the Tech fans were yelling "What is the friggin' flag for this time?" over and over. It was utterly ridiculous how much the CUSA refs influenced that game in UAB's favor. If we can I want to run the score up on them Saturday!!!!
The guy is clueless. He has seen nothing to prove our QB can run. Have you? What have you seen to prove he can throw the ball extremely well?
He is serviceable, but far from good.
He was bailed out by his receivers on two plays last weekend, but at lsu JMar worshipers blamed receivers for the missed passes.
I've thought he is better than you and others suggest. If you think I'm a J'Mar worshiper, either you don't read well or are convoluted by your own presuppositions. I think he is a hesitant but decent runner. I also believe he has become much more poised in the pocket and makes decent throws the majority of time. There are people outside of the program who believe he is more than capable. You seem to try to find evidence to support your conclusions beyond normal objectivity. I'm actually surprised you call him "serviceable" in light of the vitriol you often spew towards him. I think you aren't balanced in your critic.
I hope UAB thinks Smith is a running threat. Maybe they'll waste a spy on him and they'll end up defending with 10. I just find it impossible to believe anyone can be that stupid.
Yes, I'm "balanced" in my critic. I sat back and watched last year and gave him the benefit of the doubt even though he did not make the easy passes he sometimes made good passes. Up until the lsu game I blamed his lack of running on his HC. I didn't say much at all until the UNT game this year. I hope he proves me wrong, but he has plenty of experience now. It's time for him to step up. Throwing for 50% and taking sacks is not a what a good QB does.
Interesting you bring up LSU. Most of the people who follow them closely would assert that Smith is the most poised of all the qbs they've faced this year.
He's not looking to run, you're right. I think he wants to extend time to try and throw it. He has definitely gotten more comfortable in the pocket. Qbs who look to run every time things start to break down usually don't become better by doing that. I imagine J'Mar has been told that by someone who knows more about football than either of us.
I hope J'mar will have an epiphany and learn to throw as the runner breaks rather than wait until they're open. If he learns that one thing our passing attack is going to be very potent. And I bet his passing average goes up a lot.
Yes, I got several comments from lsu homers that were more condescending than complimentary. Many of them were Tech grads. I pay no attention to them. I do know several lsu grads who have been lifelong lsu fans. None of them were too excited about our QB play. They were complimentary of the comeback by our team as a whole. I also got many comments on #45.
Running has to be an option for our QB if our running game is going to be successful. When I hear and read about our OLine not making holes for the RBs I cringe.
Definitely needs to improve on anticipating along with knowing when it's best to tuck it and run. Those deficiencies are 2 sides of the same coin. I don't think it has to do with fear but there is definitely apprehension.
Accuracy will probably always be an issue at times, but those things should improve.
Which is why I keep saying if he isn’t going to keep it at least a couple times a game, the read play won’t be nearly as effective. I’m not looking for Smith to be another Michael Vick, but you’ve got to keep it at least a few times to keep the defense honest. In a lot of cases the DE doesn’t even look at Smith. As far as him standing in the pocket, as long as he’s completing most of his passes, I’m OK with that. It’s hard for any defense to keep routes covered for more than 4 seconds no matter how good they are. It’s just a matter of him being able to find the open guy, which he needs to work on.
Yep. I think we often forget that he's not the first guy to have accuracy issues. Driskel had poor accuracy on his deep balls. He was efficient on the short passes though...and J'Mar is not as good in the mid and short game as Driskel, but he's better than he was last year...who knows, maybe by next year, he'll be where we all want him to be.
I actually think he performs better under pressure. I think he's looked better in big games than in games like the USA game (LSU, SC, Arkansas come to mind). I think our coaches are a little looser in those games and they take the reigns off a little. I think when they are tight, he plays tight. Thus, we get indecision and hesitancy to run.
He doesn't look scared unless you've already decided that he is. Nobody here is qualified to say whether or not that's true.
But the real question is, what's behind him. What are our other options? It's not like Higgins is on the bench.
What little bit he has run has not been impressive. He runs as if he is looking for a place to lie down. I think the coaches have conditioned him to look to throw the ball to the degree that he really doesnt consider running. If he could just use those legs to extend 3rd downs and give the defense an additional option to respect in the running game, I think it would increase our pt production by another TD per game. If we can consistently score 40 I think we are tough to beat. Our D can hold other teams to 39.
