12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
I didn't see a thread.
I'm also late to the party. Dawgs lead by 5 at half, 39-34. Our two bigs, Powell and Muhammed, have 18 points and 6 boards at the half. That's a 180 from SFA. Derric Jean seems to be out of the lineup tonight. I am not sure about that one. I also see where MSVST is shooting close to 60% from three point land while we're shooting close to 10% from beyond the arc.
I hope we heat up in the second half, but we're only playing with 7 guys it seems ??

Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
15:54 -
52-40 - Dawgs. Powell with 12 points and 5 boards.
-
Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
Pemberton with a double-double 13 pts, 12 rebounds, Tech up 66-51 with 10:20 to play.
-
Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
7:42
72-62 Dawgs.
Devils keeping it close. Those SWAC teams go through hell with their schedules to start the year, so you never know which night you'll catch them on. Simmons for them has only missed one shot. We should close this easily though. Our bigs are playing strong.

Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
Can't get any stops, Valley scoring every trip. Dawgs by 11 2:51 left
-
Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
2:50 remaining...
The Devils keeping it close. Dawgs up 86-75.
Bracey has 22/7a. Powell has 19/7. Pemberton has 13/12. Muhammed has 10/4
-
Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
96-80 - Dawgs Win!
It wasn't the best defensive effort, but you gotta take the victory.
Bracey had 24, Powell had 22, Duruji, Muhammed, Langston, and Pemberton had double figures with Pemberton also having a double double.
-
Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
96-80 Final
Shot FTs well tonite, and needed 'em too.
-
Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
Dawgs shot 25 of 29 86% from the FT line. That's more like it!
Powell bounced back with a very good night, 22 pts, after struggling at SFA.
Good job Dawgs!

Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
Jean is out “at least” until 12/29, the conference opener.
-
Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
Is anyone left on the team? Good grief.

Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
Sad. We are struggling against THIS team? Our AD still charging $18 for tix or did we play in Itta Bena?

Hey that's not fair. There are at least 4 teams worse than MVSU! Well worth the price of admission.

Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
GREAT win at home for the Dawgs !!! I can see konkol's strategy for an At Large Bid is back on track.
Actual attendance, anyone ??

Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
Maybe a 1,000
Had a 16 pt lead midway thru second half and the refs woke up and decided the game was about them, if they stay consistent and call the game like they did the first 30 minutes we win by 30+
I don’t mind bad refs, as long as they call a consistent game one way for 40 minutes, it’s when they do an about face 30 minutes into a game it gets under my skin
This team is trying to find its way since it looks like Criston and Jean are both gone for the year due to health issues
JP and Day Day both played over 35 minutes tonite
Down to 4 guards

Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
Yikes! What happened to Jean?
Unfortunately this season is starting to play out a lot like last season... First Harris then DayDay then Joniah... First Christon now Jean next _____?
:(

The post right above this one...
"This team is trying to find its way since it looks like Criston and Jean are both gone for the year due to health issues..."
We have another post saying Jean is back by the year's end. I have heard zero updates on Criston. Missing both will be very, very difficult to replace.

Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
That's ok, this is another rebuilding year. We're well on track of getting back into the Dance by 2050.

Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
Dave in broadcast before the game said Jean could be gone for the year; after the game he said back “no sooner that December 29th”. Big disparity I know.
Criston is being “monitored”, literally 24/7, for another couple of weeks and will then be re-evaluated. Based upon the initial incident they were concerned he was done for the year, but apparently there have been no further episodes. Still can be gone for the year, but TBD
-
Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
Criston is heart related issues - still wearing the monitor right now
Jean's is leg issue - he has not bounced back from the injury and is not recovering well
That's TWO captains - forget what they bring to the team physically and in the box scaore - losing two captains like this also has an emotional effect on a team

The heart issue is a gut punch. I've known people who passed out on the court, wore the monitor, and then came back with no issues, ever. Hopefully that is the deal with Criston.

Yeah, as much as I have been irked with Konkol’s lack of obvious passion, lack of team identity in the past and the piss poor scheduling... he gets a pass for a while with those 2 out.
-
Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
... I also have to remind myself that last year’s team was very competitive toward the end of the season for a change too.

Agreed on both of those statements. I don’t know squat about WBB. I have tried though, many, many, many excruciating times...
Tommy Joe just failed to clue me into the girl’s game...

Re: 12/11 - vs. Mississippi Valley State
Santa Clara (5-6) just beat MVSU 82-54.
Our 16 point win doesn't bring me much Christmas joy.

12 pts two time zones away on their way to Hawaii
Quit trying to use the transitive property in OOC basketball games and just try to enjoy things more

I agree with DFM.
Plus there's no comparing one game to another. I remember a few years ago we were a good team and North Texas was bottom of the barrel when they came to our house. We went into the conference tournament as a high seed and I don't think they even qualified. But they got hot behind the 3 pt line and killed us. We put guys right in their faces and they continued hitting the 3's. We would have beat them 8 out of 10 games but that night was theirs.
So I really don't care what Santa Clara won by. We won our game.
