Huntington, WV, sports writer Grant Traylor includes Louisiana Tech as a top-three contender for the C-USA football title this year.
Saying that the offense must “produce at a better clip” over last season, it is “a major player” but has one of “Conference USA's toughest schedules.”

I have read so many articles questioning if Willie Baker will be able to produce this year. They all seem to believe Baker and Ferguson played together, and Baker's productivity was because Ferguson was getting all of the attention.
It seemed to me that Baker was Ferguson's substitute. I can't remember a single time that Baker and Ferguson seemed to be rushing the quarterback together. Baker got his work in while Ferguson was taking a breather.
Am I wrong?
96, you are absolutely right. Baker was in on plays when Jaylon was not. He was more than an adequate sub. He may not have the numbers Ferguson had, but he will cause problems for every OL he lines up against.
Unless we have a different QB, the only thing we are “definitely” contending for is a 7-5 record + a bowl game.
We will be 7-5 and win our bowl game to have 8 wins.
Most folks have been predicting we'd challenge for the title the past few years...we haven't. Maybe being picked 4th in the West will be a little good JuJu.
So I'm choosing to be optimistic going into this season. We've had QBs in the past who took until their senior year to really perform well. I'm hoping J'mar will do the same.
We've lulled the competition into sleepy complacency and now we're gonna hit with a surprise attack just like the German's at Pearl Harbor!

We all know that Smith will likely start every game. If there is a year that his poor performance means the next man up then this should be the year. Surely at least one other QB is ready. Plus North Texas is by in large a commuter school, they have some money, but a lot of the students are fair weather at best, and don’t value fees etc being added for athletics. Very good arts school, and that usually doesn’t equate to athletic power house.

Until Holtz stops losing every year to the same teams, there’s not a whole lot that can happen that’s gonna fire me up about this season, or anybody else either. Contender usually ends up meaning pretender. Southern Miss = 100% loss , UAB = 95% loss , and we probably lose to NTX because we usually do every other year. That’s a lot to get excited about.
It's funny, there have been years in the past where I almost had the depth chart memorized, heck I could tell you hometowns for half the roster. This year, no way. I know we have talent, but I am just not looking forward to it like years in the past.
It's not just me then.
But that's not good.
I bought my tickets, but it is difficult to get excited about actually using them this year. I hope they do something to make it more interesting than watching paint dry this year or it will be easy to stay home.
Y’all are late. Scaled back 2 years ago. Quit buying and attending last year. Not going back until some major changes made.
Sometimes, my suspension of belief makes it like we are living in an extended real-life plot from Major League. That the powers-that-are think they can move Louisiana Tech if we suck enough, but we somehow have pulled a relatively successful run. So they keep trying to find ways to sabotage everything and it just keeps not working. But we'll inevitably get the shaft and have to settle for being in the minors.Quote:

My perspective about Tech sports these days is very different than before.
