Patriots Release Ryan Allen
The New England Patriots have released former Louisiana Tech punter, announcing that Rookie Jake Bailey will handle the punting and holding duties this season.
Likely due to a combination of ability and lower salary, similar to Ryan signing as a rookie.
I wonder what team will pick him up.

Re: Patriots Release Ryan Allen
Teams always look for the cheapest kicking options. Of course it bites them in the but sometimes as well.

Why get rid of your Super Bowl MVP?
Re: Patriots Release Ryan Allen
Ryan Allen has covered himself in glory. I would venture to say he's our most accomplished recent graduate. Am I missing anyone?
Re: Patriots Release Ryan Allen
Xavier Woods is making a name for himself.

Ah, thanks. I felt there was someone missing. Yea, he's doing very well.
Jelly is hanging in there but I haven't heard much lately. I guess no news is good news there.
Other than that our guys are either battling for spots (like Driskel) or getting random injuries that kill their chances (Taylor, Dixon, etc)

And this cowboy fan couldn’t be happier!!
Re: Patriots Release Ryan Allen
Ryan Allen will one day be in our Tech HOF. He has accomplished almost everything you would want a former player to do. He will sign with someone soon and I will root for him on that team too.

David Lee, the most prolific Tech punter is in the Tech HOF. He won the NFL punting title twice, was All-Pro twice, punted a 76 yarder in Super Bowl V and played in the NFL for 12 years. He grew up in Minden. If I remember correctly, he also was the place kicker at Tech.

more reason to hate New England

Yeah, the good news is I don't have to root for the Patriots on any level. Hope he lands with the Saints or somewhere there is already a Tech person. Makes things easier.

At one time Ryan Allen had the record for longest punt Super Bowl until it was eclipse a year later. We have always had a strong kicking presence in the NFL. I would argue that David Lee is probably our most accomplished of the two,but Ryan has a legitimate shot at the College Football HOF. He was the first ever two time Ray Guy Award winner and has three more Super Bowl Rings that the other guy who did it.

Ryan has three rings, who has more? The Blond Bomber himself?

David Lee also played baseball at Tech and the basketball coach tried every way possible to get him on that team. He was scouted by White Sox and Cardinals as well. Also caught some touchdown passes playing end while at Tech. Extremely talented athlete. Oh, and he is my dad!

He worked at my grandpa’s service station in Minden on the corner of Pine and Main. My grandpa always bragged about that.

You have great reason to be proud. I always heard how fine a man he was in addition to how good of an athlete.

I was a huge Baltimore Colt fan. And, an Orioles fan too. Every August we would go up there and catch a couple of O's games and when possible a Colts' game, a pre-season game of course. My Uncle Pat (a C47 pilot during WWII) lived in Rockville, Md. Remember watching David Lee punt for the Colts, never realized he was a Tech guy until many years later.
