A sleeping giant is finally waking up
ULM is a program on the rise. The separation has begun and the Warwawks are looking at Tech in the rearview mirror. Hope you all enjoyed talking smack for the past couple of decades but those days are over. You all saw how each team dealt with Grambling. You all saw Tech get smashed by perennial power Texas and ULM just a missed extra point short of perennial power Florida State. The fun has just begun. 😁

Congrats on almost winning. Besides South Carolina, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Kansas State etc. we never come within a few points of beating a P5 team.
The good news is since you all have left us in the rear view mirror I suppose we won't have to hear you whine about how we won't play you. You've moved beyond that right?
-
Re: A sleeping giant is finally waking up
How many victories have we had over P5’s? How many has ULM had? Not that it matters that much. Anyone want to place bets on probability of ULM winning the Belt vs Tech winning CUSA
-
Re: A sleeping giant is finally waking up
Sleeping giant? Got a long ways to go - how bout start with making it to one bowl game. HOWEVER, I do like Coach V.
He's certainly got the program headed in right direction. Unfortunately, most of the alum are LSU season ticket holders or dont realize NLULM has an athletic program. Keep climbing and dreaming maybe one day basketball season wont come so quickly.

Re: A sleeping giant is finally waking up
nlu would kick our ass
We need to play them. Losing to them seems to be the only thing that will get a coach or an AD fired.

I don't think it would. I think they have safe jobs. Now if Karl and other notable alumni clowned these fools we might get a change. Just might. Please Karl.

That would do it. There are enough alumni that remember that rivalry with Northeast High School. That was THE GAME, last one of the season, that we looked forward to. The complete opposite of Tech in every way.

Sleeping giant? You can't make this stuff up.
NLU played one of the 10 worst P5 teams and still lost.
This clown is just joking, he knows NLU's place in the world.
Sleeping giant, that is to funny.

I hope that's sarcasm.
We've beaten numerous P5 teams, even the last 3 times we played Alabama vs ULM's 1 win against them (which I think is their only P5 win).
-
Re: A sleeping giant is finally waking up
ULLM beat Arkansas a few years back.
Our AD sees us as no better than ULLM so I don't think it will be too much longer before we sink to their level.

Not sure if you are being a little tongue in cheek? But one thing is for certain the Belt has definitely passed cusa up as a football confrence. One is making progress and the other appears to be stuck in the mud.

Nah, supermel has posted before. He's one of 6 ulm fans out there.
The premise of this thread is so comical that at least it shows he has a sense of humor. Which, is very important if you are an ulm fan! Beating Grambling and losing to a horrible Florida State team does not constitute being a "giant." LOL! Now, I will agree that if we were to play this month, ulm would beat us. Probably something like 31-20. Come November, that may not be true. Still, being able to beat Holtz's Puppies is no accomplishment and would not propel any team into "giant" status.
-

I fully expected this to be a post talking about lsuless' offense. That was a sleeping giant.

Re: A sleeping giant is finally waking up
Not sure why this is in the pit. We are probably the 5th best football team in Louisiana. The Sleeping twin giants are still looking up to Tulane and the Purple and Piss, but they have passed up skippy and little tommy’s show.
-
Re: A sleeping giant is finally waking up
Tulane BITCH STOMPED their “Grambling” opponent tonight. It wouldn’t even be close this year. Tulane is the clear no. 2 in the state. Our dawgs may not even be 5th

Exactly what I was thinking. 800 yards of Offense...not between the TWO teams...that's 800 yards for Iowa State ALONE.

Re: A sleeping giant is finally waking up
The stench rising from the smit pile of the "sleeping giant" is encompassing Monroe.
-
Re: A sleeping giant is finally waking up
Looking at their schedule, they should definitely get to 6 wins (bowl eligible) and probably 7. But, going 7-5 and being one of 80 teams bowling does not a giant make. Cuz, if it did, we'd be a super giant!!!

Ours might be bad at times being located in such a sparely populated area of N. La but not totally minuscule like the JUCO’s located in larger Monroe proper with a legit airport as well.

We have access to the same market LaMon has access to. We have many more graduates in the region. Factor N/W La in and we are way ahead in potential market.
The Airport excuse is just silly. Means nothing and has never been a negative other than as a talking point excuse for our leadership.

It's just like that war eagle/tiger thing? Or, the elephant/tide thing? Only this variety plays bad football.

War Eagle/Tiger is not thing...
War Eagle is a battle cry not a mascot.
Tiger is a mascot and they are also known as Plainsmen

I'm pretty sure they've got an eagle. But way to miss the point!
PLAYS BAD FOOTBALL

Re: A sleeping giant is finally waking up
Yes I got your point, but the Auburn thing has always bugged me.
They have an eagle as part of their game day tradition. It is not a mascot. Probably the coolest think I've ever seen at a game.

App St is indeed a sleeping giant. There are quite a few legit candidates for top G5 spot this year.

Boazy State lost to BYU last night. They were ranked 16th, should drop. More than likely the coveted NY6 slot will go to an AAC team. Maybe SMU! They smoked a good Temple team yesterday. They have Memphis, Navy, and Tulane left. Going 12-0 will position SMU in a position to garner that NY6 invite. Cincy will have something to say about this before it is done.
As for Appy State, IF they too should run the table to finish 12-0 and probably ranked around 16th or so, they have a shot. To finish 12-0 will mean beating South Carolina... tough task. And, even with that win unless they get a lot of help, I doubt they'll be ranked high enough to garner the slot. But...I hope they do get it and I hope it embarrasses the hell out of CUSA.
AND! I will point out I advocated, and still do, for CUSA to pursue Appy State. I was in favor of that over the inclusion of Charlotte and ODU. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what CUSA can offer Appy State to get them to leave the Belch.
-
Re: A sleeping giant is finally waking up
Just to further the NY6 talk...
It is unlikely any G5 team will finish 12-0, like UCF did the past two years, or 13-0 as they won their conference title game, so it will be a 12-1 G5 team, at best. I can see Appy State being in that conversation, at 12-1, with their only loss @ South Carolina. SMU too, with one regular season loss, probably either @ Memphis or @ Navy, but beating a ranked Cincy to finish 12-1. Or, flip it, and an 11-1 Cincy beating SMU to go 12-1. But then! one-loss Boazy and San Diego State figure in the picture too.
The point is...you don't see CUSA or The MAC in this conversation. If either Tech or UAB run the table to finish 12-1, we won't be close enough in the rankings to factor in. By then, a one-loss Tech could be ranked 20th-ish. But one loss teams already mentioned will be 7-9 places higher.
-

You are probably correct.
Lot's of things can happen between now and Thanksgiving including us losing one or two times. Since Holtz showed yesterday that he is willing to play the game during the regular season I'm hoping we be move up quicker than you anticipate. IMO, we need to be in or very near the Top25 after the UNT game. If we can do that before traveling we could be as high as 15 before the conference championship. That may not be good enough, but if the timing of losses for the teams you mention above works out you never know.
It's fun to think about. First time since 2015 we've been able to discuss this.

Re: A sleeping giant is finally waking up
I WAS NOT there but this gigapixel crowd photo promotion at nlulm was a beautiful event as I read about it.
At some break in the game...I’d say 2nd quarter giving everyone time to get to their seats... they set up this fancy smancy camera at the center of the field to shoot a 360-view of the stadium. A high resolution photo results so people can zoom in on Facebook and tag themselves.
So, in the announcement prior to the photo session they announce how to tag yourself at the following website....
Well, when the pic is shot half the people are waving hands, etc. to stand out in the photo while many others are still looking at their phones trying figure out the app.
One poster today on why his group looked weird in the photo: “They were announcing how to tag yourself as the camera went around the entire field LOL!”
You gotta love a well planned promotion.

The sleepy giant got smooshed today, now 4-6. Have to win last two games just to be bowl eligible. They host a struggling Coastal Carolina, and should win that one. Then it's off to Laughingyet and the huge showdown with the Ravin' Cajuns. They should win that one too...

I know...this year's Tech team sucks. Fortunately, CUSA also sucks. As for the Super Bowl, if it is played, I expect a close...stumbling, bumbling....who can make the fewer mistakes game. Ya know ulm will play WAAAAAAAAAAY over their heads, and will actually "bring it," since this game is truly their Super Bowl. A win here will make their whole season. Unless the Dawgs match their intensity, we could lose this game.
But, my head says, the Dawgs will be ready to play, well enough, and we will prevail in a very forgettable game...27-14.

Since this post was made Tech has done okay, completing a 10-3 season and a 6th straight bowl win. And now in 2020 we are struggling, but still 4-3 is a whole lot better than the sleepy giant's 0-8.
supermel was writing checks with his mouth that his crappy football program couldn't cash! He was right about one thing...watching the Chicken Hawks tank is a lot of fun!
