Saints D was boss tonight!
Defense wins championships!
It also gives you a chance to win even when you're missing your starting QB and the offense is sputtering. A "money" kicker helps too.
Haven’t seen a team handle Zeke so effectively in a long time.
The press loves to pimp teams in big cities and/or with big fan bases as contenders each year. The Cowboys, Rams and Falcons were labelled top-tier contenders in the preseason by various press outfits. I don't think any of them really are this year. That said, I am not sure anyone in the NFC is really looking sharp right now.
I know in the NFL all the teams are good .. but I am just not really impressed with anyone this year (Patriots included -- first real test against a beat up Bills team and they look fallible). Parity seems to be the one thing I get out of the first 4 weeks of the season.
At least the Bills look like they might be turning a corner. Somebody has to make life normal for the Pats in the NFL by being a real challenge in the division.
I had the Cowboys and Rams pegged to be the top two seeds, first round bye, homefield advantage, and one of them to then lose to the Pats in the Super Bowl...
And, that might still happen. But after yesterday, I have taken a step back. The Bucs smoked the Rams, the wounded Saints beat the Pokes. Yeah, just one game, true. Never expected any team to go 16-0, so losses are to be expected. But it was more HOW the games went. Well, anyway, I'll say the Skins suck! But other than that, who knows?
Who Dat! Defense Baby!
Saints 31 Bucs 24
Just keep wining!
They did it with some style, yesterday! Most of us were going to be happy going 3-3 without Brees, but this team is hitting on almost all cylinders! Brees should be back by the Atlanta game. I would think it would take a game or two for him and the team to adjust to the style difference again, though. No matter what, I would go out on a limb and call Sean Peyton Coach of The Year right now.
Even though it was the Bucs bad secondary, I was happy to see several throws over 10 yards. Really helps when we can stretch the field.
Brees looked pretty good yesterday... 83% completions, 373 yds, 3 TDs 1 INT. He was a little rusty, ya know! ;)
I watched the 49'ers game and they are contenders. It pains me to say that but that defense is for real. It will be VERY interesting to see strength vs. strength when they play the Saints.
Saints run D vs. 9'ers run offense
Saints Offensive line vs. 9'ers defensive line
The winner of that game has the inside line to the 1 seed.
We are bad arse!!
I still like our odds against San Fran no matter the venue. San Fran has terrible attendance, therefore no real home field advantage. The Saints definitely have a home field advantage.
OMG! if I were the opposition I would onside kick every time vs. the inept Saints. Keystone cops! Worse, they are afraid of the ball, like it's a bomb or something. Totally suck.
Saints have to be the worst 10-2 team in all of NFL history. Well...maybe not THE worst since we do have a decent defense which once again saved our bacon last night. Brees sucks. Well...maybe not sucks, but he and the offense are anemic. Taysom Hill is the best player on offense. And on special teams too!
Have a feeling the Niners will totally expose the Saints as being the pretender they are.
But...this is the goofy, who knows who might show up, NFL. So, there is always that hope that the Niners aren't really as good as they appear to be. I am rooting for the Niners and the Ravens to both reach the Super Bowl. The Niners only if the Saints get eliminated once the playoffs start. SF is my backup team to root for. And it's Ravens all the way in the AFC. And they play each other this weekend, I think. Go Ravens!
As for my preseason picks....well, the Pats are a very strong contender to return to the SB for like the 20th time during the B&B era! But in the NFC, woe! I had the Rams and Cowboys in the NFC championship game. What's happened to those bunches? Jason Garrett isn't long for his job. So happy to see the cheating, lowlife Rams getting theirs.
So, any guesses who will be Jerry Jones' next flunky? Maybe Jimmy Johnson will come out of retirement. Or, Barry Switzer!
Back to the Saints...our D is very good and ST, except for covering onside kicks and trying to tackle, and for always, and I mean 100% of the time, getting flagged for blocking in the back...come to think of it, ST suck too, only Moristead and Lutz are good.
PLEASE cut Eli Apple! Cut him now! Put in anyone...hell! I bet Taysom Hill could play corner better.
Geaux Saints! Division champs 3 years in a row, woo hoo! Who Dat!
Brees just can’t throw the long pass anymore. And he will be scrambling and getting sacked big time against the 49ers. Need to put Bridgewater in at times and throw deep
ball or let Taysom Hill. Also Kamara just isn’t right for some reason. Great D!
Kamara is dealing with every RB's worst nightmare...a bad knee.
Ginn and Cook both dropped TDs. This game was not as close as the score.
And now our LBs are hurt for the SF game.
Saints Re-sign Monti Te'o due to injuries
The Saints are re-signing veteran Manti Te'o after injuries depleted the linebackers, a source told ESPN, confirming a report by FOX8 New Orleans.
The Saints apparently needed more depth after starting middle linebacker Kiko Alonso and starting strongside linebacker A.J. Kleinsuffered unspecified injuries during last Thursday night's win at Atlanta.
The severity of those injuries is unknown. The Saints' first practice report will come out Wednesday as they prepare for a high-profile home date with the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Both teams are 10-2.
The Saints previously lost starting middle linebacker Alex Anzalone to a season-ending shoulder injury in Week 2. But they still have the NFL's third-ranked run defense, allowing just 88.6 rushing yards per game. The 49ers' offense ranks second in the NFL with 148 rushing yards per game.

Giving up 2.5 on the road to San Fran. Does Vegas know about our injuries?
I'm still worried about our injuries on the OL and our Lbs.
Holy chit, Bosa is awesome! Dude can play for my team anyday.
As for this game, typical SP finding a way to lose a winnable game with his stupid-azz decisions. I literally screamed at the TV (my new 81" Samsung mega-screen) when the idiot went for two after the 2nd TD, and the stupid fake punt!
And now starting DE Davenport is out for the year as is starting DT Sheldon Rankins.
This after losing two starting LBs. But, oh! we still have Apple out there...egad!
This season is wrecked. Had a nice run, but between the zebras and these injuries, it's done. Oh, the Saints will find a way to win a couple of more games, get to 12-4, and maybe even win the first round playoff game. But after that, forget it.
I would argue we can win all the way up to a rematch with San Fran so long as we can find a warm body to replace Apple.
Brees had a good night.
Good, hope it is a step up.
So now, the Saints are tied with SF, Seattle, and Green Bay at 11-3. The Saints can end up anywhere from a #1 to the #3 seed. San Fran can swing from #1 down to #5, wow! and have to play the 1st round game at either Dallas or Philly. Saints have two tough games, both road games, at Tennessee and at Carolina. Finishing 13-3 and vying for that #1 seed will be very tough. But, this is the hole they have dug for themselves.
Isn’t Carolina down time their 3rd string QB? Tennessee, I agree, will be tough.
Signed Vacarro.
Nice win today for Da Saints!!
Apple got hurt...Jenkins comes in and promptly gets called for defensive holding. He said, "Well, I went in for Apple and did like he does."
Okay, I made up that quote, but he was tagged with the flag.
What Thomas is doing is unreal -
Everyone, I mean everyone knows he is going to be targeted and YET he manages to get open...
As anyone knows who has played flag football, or even friendly pick-up touch football, it is impossible to cover a receiver on slants/crosses if the pass is on the money at the critical second. Brees can deliver those passes and Thomas, like many other good receivers, knows how to plant his foot and change directions in an instant. Needless to say Brees-Thomas represents as good a throw-catch duo out there.
Patrick Robinson has a great day.
I believe Apple being out was a big factor in our win. No more easy completions.
When Drew broke the all time passing record he sent commemorative footballs to each lineman, receiver, back, etc. all the way back to the Chargers days. Pure class all the way.
https://youtu.be/UpYFVVEQHQ0
Drew was NOT selected as one of ESPN's all-time top 10 greatest NFL QBs. Yet, Dan Marino was...hmmm. Drew was not selected because he doesn't win enough? Because he doesn't hold any passing records? Well, Drew has smashed EVERY record Marino ever held and Drew is 1-0 in Super Bowls while Marino couldn't even reach a SB.
Staubach? Favre?
On their list I agree with Sammy Baugh, Johnny Unitas, Tom Brady, and Joe Montana. Which is not to say I don't agree with some of the others like John Elway and Peyton Manning. But, how do you include some they did, and leave off Drew Brees?
Brees has never won a league MVP award either. And, probably won't. I have been a critic of Brees at times, but as a lifetime Saints' fan I have earned the right to be critical of him when he deserves it. Still...do these people ever actually watch football? Have they not seen Brees carve up the best defenses the NFL has to offer, sometimes EMBARRASSING great defenses! It's not his fault, especially the past two years, the Saints missed reaching the Super Bowl. There were failures elsewhere...in the secondary, and then with the zebras. He did his job to put the Saints in position to reach the SB.
Oh well...ESPN can be goofy at times. This is one of those times.
Acknowledgement is based on individual achievement until it comes to Brees.
ESPN has become too political and sucks!
I wonder what type of numbers Marino and Fouts would of put up in today’s NFL...
I mean they got pummeled and still put up their numbers, as much as I love Brees he could of never taken the punishment they took and survived and played as long...
Certainly it was a lot more difficult during Marino's day than now. Comparing stats between the eras is pretty much a waste of time. Marino's stats were staggering at the time--partially because the Dolphins never did have a decent running game with him. And Marino did make a Super Bowl -- he just had the misfortune to face Montana in it.
The only one of the top 10 QBs I'd drop to put Brees in is Favre. I still think he's pretty much just about longevity and has the same problem as Brees -- only one Super Bowl despite having a pretty good team around him more than once.
Well, that was awful. Now on to my annual vigil of fasting and praying Jerry doesn’t decide he wants Sean.
Jerry is an idiot, but even he's not dumb enough to pay what he'd have to give the Saints to go after Peyton (I'd bet they'd ask for more than a first round pick). Not to mention that I don't think Peyton would want to go back to Dallas. That's an area where you're pretty safe, I think.
The Saints' OL got "used" by the Minnysoda DL! That's where the game was lost. But, I still think it's time for the Saints to trade Brees, while he still has perceived value. Find a team that thinks it's only a QB away from making a playoff run, which Brees can help them do for probably two years or so, and in return get a bunch of draft picks and a couple of very good players who can help the Saints now.
It's over.
I do not think Bridgewater is the answer though.
Oh, and of course, the game ended on another blown no-call, OPI. That was as predictable as saying the sun will rise in the east this morning.
If you told me we would hold Minnesota to 20 in regulation, I would have bet we win by 14. Outside of Taysom, that was the worst effort I have seen from the Saints in a long time.
Yep, Saints looked terrible all game. I was ready to move on well before the game was over. It was a missed call, but they weren't making a lot of calls in the game anyway. They were letting them play. Saints should have taken advantage earlier on and it wouldn't have been an issue.
We seem to be looking at the end of an era. Brady and Brees are clearly dropping off. They might get one more good year, but it will be more like Manning's last year in Denver than anything they've been in the past. Rogers is headed that direction as well (he was 21st in QBR this past year)
Drew's arm looked suspect in the play-off game, but prior to that, he looked really good. Payton was hiding his deficiencies, but that's what all coaches do. Will be interesting to watch, but the Saints have to have a true #2 WR and they have to address the defensive backfield. Gonna be tough to afford everything they need.
Just want to mention this...
Saints 38 Bucs 3
Can you say...defense?
