Early weather prediction in Huntington, WV
Friday
High 47
Low 26
It'll be cold. Good thing we have a cold front coming through Ruston. Tuesday it will get down to 20 degrees. Our guys shouldn't be too shocked by the temperature.
-
Re: 11/15 @Marshall Game (Friday Night)
Understatement: this is a HUGE game! Not only for Tech this year, to hopefully win our first CUSA championship, but for Holtz's coaching legacy. This is one of the most important road conference games in his tenure. I think the wins at FAU last year, and at WKU a couple years back, are his two biggest so far. This would be bigger than both.

We have their respect for sure. They will bring their A game and we have to hold our foot on the gas.

Huntington is barely in the foothills. Elevation 564 feet. Ruston's elevation is 331 feet.

Re: 11/15 @Marshall Game (Friday Night)
If Allen comes in and wins these next two games, J'Mar shouldn't start another game for us. What an idiotic, selfish, thing to do. Couldn't wait till the season was over to "get your burn on"? Not that I had a lot of confidence in J'Mar getting a shot at the NFL, but as a QB he just ensured that no one will use a late round pick on him. Seriously!?!?!?!? A QB gets busted for weed before the 2 biggest games of the season? Unbelievable.
-
Re: 11/15 @Marshall Game (Friday Night)
Even if he doesn’t win, Smith would be done. Might as well get Allen some experience for next year.

Don’t let anyone convince you that the elevation, temperature, time change, and travel will not have a devastating affect on our team. Ha!

Without QB1, we still have receivers that can catch almost anything. We have a line that can get Tucker and Henderson plenty of room to operate. We can still play our game without those few players. No reason we shouldn’t walk out winners.

Re: 11/15 @Marshall Game (Friday Night)
We had to suffer 3 years of shitty quarter back plays with Jmar - just when we supposed to enjoy his development he blew it all up.
Skippy needs to be held accountable for this.

Maybe when all the smoke clears Allen will prove to be the QB we truly need!!
-
Re: 11/15 @Marshall Game (Friday Night)
Allen looked good when he played earlier this season. Of course, it was mop up against a beaten team. But he looked promising.
-
Re: 11/15 @Marshall Game (Friday Night)
A couple of takes:
1. I agree that Jmar should be done. After all Skip has done for him, to do this shit is unacceptable. I don't know that I would kick him off the team, but he definitely needs to ride the bench. I don't think that should depend on how Allen plays, either. If Allen plays great, then its an easier decision. If he struggles a bit, its a more difficult decision. We only have 4 guaranteed games left, so in theory we could play the freshman as well, if necessary. Rumor is, the other guys have had multiple (3 plus) positives, if that is true they should definitely be gone.
2. I am actually less concerned about AA's ability than I am Skip's propensity to "shut it down", run the f'ing offense. Prior to this, I was lamenting the fact that Skip has really played JMar later in a couple of games than he should have. AA should have another 40 or 50 snaps and at this point, that would have helped.
I realize that kids make mistakes, and the crime isn't as much of a crime as it used to be. However, he has let his coach, his family, his team, his university, Tech fans, and himself down, and possibly cost the University millions.
-

Can someone confirm......
Did Allen find out he would be starting before the end of last week? I heard the positive test was last week and apparently we played JMar and Hardy against UNT because we hadn’t had time to prep Allen at that point.

If you follow Allen's twitter, you can read into a few of the posts. He seems to have known for a while. Not sure if it's been since last week, but you can tell he knew early.

Hopefully they played because there was some type of appeals process, and not because Allen wasn't ready.

I don't care about the nature of the crime itself, not a bit.
Rules, however, are rules. You broke a rule, intentionally, that you KNEW would have this consequence. And you did it anyway.

Not exactly. I'm sure there are numerous players that smoke (in all sports) and never get caught. It's a gamble, but it's not like everyone is tested all the time. I drive 5 over because I feel like the odds are pretty good that I won't get a ticket. Not sure this is much different.

Read the NCAA rules. There is an A Test and a B Test. Apparently he failed the A Test before the UNT game but elected to have the B Test used. The B Test probably hit on this past Monday.

Allen knew before the UNT game, which begs the question, if you knew Smith wasn’t going to be able to play this week, why didn’t you play Allen more against UNT. That’s just plain stupid.

This is confusing me. Why not get him in there for the whole 4th quarter and some of the 3rd? The game was well in hand.

Would not some coaches made the suspension for the first 2 games of next year. Seems I have heard of that precedent.

Our practice defense is better than whatever UNT was fielding in the 4th quarter anyway.

QAQC is mandatory in any test. That is why there is a split sample and certainly the correct procedure.

Been a long time since that was a responsibility of mine, but just wondering does an outside firm come in to do this and does the firm come up with the random name to test?
I guess the paper strip is used on one test and a gas chromography(sp?) test is used on the other sample which would explain the two or three day wait. I am not even sure how all this testing is done anymore.

I was speaking of testing in general, not specifically drug tests as I am not experienced in that. QAQC that I am familiar with is performed by an outside firm to validate internal test results.

Wow- maybe he should have had a few more possessions in our last game then. I saw this yesterday and told a fellow tech fan, "it is so hard to be a TECH fan sometimes". They agreed. If Skip knew last week, it doesn't make sense not to play him more when the game was out of reach and they could not score.

Re: 11/15 @Marshall Game (Friday Night)
I dont see much in Allen’s posts. Its nice to see he is getting a lot of support, though. Smith is also reposting a lot of that as well, so he at least isn’t being a bad sport about it.

Agreed. Furthermore, AA didn't even take all the backup snaps. Weston Elliott played too. In that scenario, why wouldn't you get AA all the snaps possible?
