Heard a rumor that Arkansas may be interested in hiring Skip given the amount of money they owe Beilema and now Morris on remaining contracts? could be close to $30 million between both guys on buyouts. Skip would be a cheap option and bring a resume that may sooth the aching razorback fans especially if he wins the conference championship. Anybody heard anything?
I got a call yesterday from a Pig Fan saying Skip was on their short list. No real inside information on this one, just think people are speculating and Skip seems logical (especially since his Dad coached there)
Just names being thrown around by internet folks.
Mike Leach, Lane Kiffin (of course), Mike Norvell, Bryan Harsin, Bill Clark, Eli Drinkwitz

Skip is probably on the list and will probably be on a lot of lists for at least consideration. I doubt he is high on the list. At his age, his resume isn't flashy enough for most major programs. I think it would take a Tennessee- Dooley situation for Skip to wind up being the top choice.
Norvell is the obvious choice. But, I can see Skip fitting in well there.

I would imagine that Arkansas would hire a consultant firm to do the search. They hired DHR International last time.
I believe Arkansas just hired Memphis Head Coach Mike Norvell. He's 38 yrs old and a former head coach at UCA. When you search his name in Wikapedia, they identify him as the head coach at Arkansas.

I cannot see Holtz being very interested into stepping into the P5 realm. Sure, it would be a lot of money and a chance to make it at the highest CFB level. But it also means a LOT more pressure to be successful. Then there's all the headaches dealing with way more overzealous fans and spoiled 18-23 yr olds who believe they're NFL HoF material. Skip has a nice situation here at Tech. He has built a pretty good program so why join P5 SEC circus at this point in life?

Some are so desperate. Suggestions like Petrino are laughable. He is the reason they are in this mess. And they wouldn’t dare tough Freeze or Briles either.
Even Bill Clark is confusing. They mention “program builder.” Yes, they won a championship... In possibly the worst CUSA football season he’s coached under. And with a bunch of special waivers.
If I was Arkansas I would try to get Dykes. At least the offense would be exciting and give kids a reason to go there.

Right, but it's kind of like what Tony Franklin said about Baylor during the Briles era - everybody'd love to suddenly have a world class offense and defense, but not everyone can recruit to that - at least not right off the bat. A high-powered offense with a poor defense looks bad next to a team that's solid across the board. But Arkansas (and Baylor when Briles got there) are a really long ways away from being able to be good at everything. Are you worse off by shooting for great at one thing, bad at another than you would be trying to just follow the status quo and slowly get better and be "balanced" across the board?Quote:

The crazy thing is looking back at our roster from the Dykes era I think we actually had plenty of talented players on defense.

Holtz is 1-12 vs P5 over the past 7 years. That's quite a nugget. We did compete in all those games.
It's just possible that some of those early narrow-margin losses and close wins are somehow related to starting a 14 year old QB (who probably isn't to blame for any of the losses, he generally played well - but maybe someone with just a touch more experience takes one less risk or makes one more play).
Hindsight being 20-20 and all.

They were still paying Bielema, (stopped I know) and now firing Chad Morris with so much left ($$$) on his contract, where does the money come from to pay him? Does a booster(s) step up, make a huge donation to "the foundation" so they can get the tax deduction and the school pays the contract? Or do schools have reserves to pay this? Or do schools have some sort of insurance policies to cover this stuff?
I suspect Arkansas will attempt to settle with Bielema by forcing him to take a smaller lump sum in exchange for not being kept on a tight leash regarding attempts to interview for and take P5 jobs. That's what not paying him right now is really all about.Quote:

Personally, because of their lack of a competitive recruiting base, I don’t see them being able to compete in the SEC West on a regular basis unless they get a proven, big name.
