Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
I am from Louisiana, New Orleans born, Shreveport raised. Travelled from Venice to Vivian, Oak Grove to Cameron. But I am Tech Red and Blue to the core. I see how the powers @ LSU and in the state government thwart Tech at different angles . Couple this with the number of Tech grads who sport LSU on their Facebook pages and exclusively wear LSU clothing, I just don't feel like I'm an LSU fan, ya know?
I LIKE Clemson, even though I have never even set foot on their campus, haha.
I am a Dawg for life. Your take?

I hope the Tigers beat the tiggers.

Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
LSU opened at minus 5.5 according to what I saw. I‘m surprised it’s that low.
If Clemson’s D line cannot put pressure on Burrow they are in trouble. They got good pressure on OSU but I think most of that was from blitz packages. Burrow has been real good at handling blitzes.
Only Auburn’s D line was able to pressure Burrow and they held LSU to 23 points.
I don’t think LSU’s D line is as good as OSU’s so I expect Clemson to be more successful with a conventional running game and Lawrence to have more time to throw.

I saw it as low as LSU -3.5. That’s easy money.

That LSU OL is incredible. They looked like the Great Wall of China in the OU game.

I am a dog fan only. If LSU loses, I won’t cry, but if Clemson wins, I won’t cheer too much.

I wish both could lose. Since that can’t happen, it doesn’t matter to me who wins.

Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
If lsu wins, another 5000 Tech grads deny Tech and claim lsu as the state university
-
Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
It's just a football game to me. I have no memories or allegiance tied to LSU. Living in Arkansas, I don't cheer for the Hogs. I'll watch them with friends, but it's just a football game.
An LSU win does nothing for Louisiana Tech.
-
Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
I’m in the group of people that just wants it to be a good game. I think LSU rolls, though. Dabo really grinds my gears. Hard to not like Burrow and Orgeron.

Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
Clemson had one of the best DLs in history, last year. This year they are very mediocre. LSU will have its way, for the most part, and score a bunch of points. Not as many as they did, or could have, against OU, but still 30+ and probably approaching 40. Can Clemson match that kind of offensive output? I doubt it.
Can Clemson win? Sure they can. Anything is possible. But their D will have to play lights out, and their O will have to keep the ball on long, time-consuming drives ending in points every time. .

i'm gonna answer this like a Tech graduate who loves LSU when i ask them "WHY"? So my dental hygienist told me that she has a family member who actually thinks she heard from a friend that they may have known someone who possibly had a family member go to Clemson and since my hygienist get's paid to stick her fingers in my mouth, i feel like we are like family.....so that makes me a Clemson fan.

Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
LSU O is fun to watch and this is at the highest level of college football.
I enjoyed watching them rolling OU the other day and I hate LSU because of Tech.
LSU win won’t change the faith of Tech football. Tech chose its faith with the combos of Dr. Guice, TMac, and Skippy.
How many new Tech fans that we have won over with our amazing 6 bowl wins in a row - a few hundreds, a few thousands, or just a few?
How many long time Tech fans that we have lost over that same amazing 6 bowl wins in a row - a few hundreds, a few thousands, or just a few?

Clemson had a MUCH tougher semifinal game than LSU. LSU got lucky with the OU matchup. I don't think there's anything "mediocre" about Clemson at all. They beat a tremendously talented Ohio State team. A lot of "experts" on the sideline were saying the OSU-Clemson game was the hardest hitting game they've ever seen.
I expect LSU to win for 2 reasons: 1) They are better offensively than they've ever been, mostly due to Joe Burrow. 2) The OSU win for Clemson was so physically taxing, I'm just not sure Clemson can do it in back to back games.
But Clemson hasn't lost a game since the 2017 season, and has a 29-game win streak going. They won't go down easy.

I had Clemson winning, but honestly after the game I felt like OSU might be the better team in spite of the loss. I also expect LSU to win, but as you said, you don’t win 29 in a row by accident.
-
Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
For clarification, I never said Clemson is mediocre, I said their DL is. Especially in comparison to what they had last year.
I posted, originally, I liked Clemson in the semis, against either OSU or LSU, mostly because they are on a long (29 game) win streak, are defending champions, but mostly because all the pundits were overlooking them. Go back and review what was being said, and not said, before the CFP were set. It was ALL about OSU and LSU...and oh yeah, sorry, they forgot, Clemson too. I said it was very dangerous to overlook Clemson...
Well, here we are again. 90+% of CFB fans, and all the "experts" have already handed LSU the trophy. Hmmm....

Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
I’m hoping that the 2 weeks of prep will allow Clemson to get healthy. Since LSU essentially had a first round bye, they need it to be competitive. Dabo is crazy good. Would be great if he was crazy good on the 11th.
-
Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
In no way am I a LSU fan, but I’ll be pulling for them. I figure the better LSU is the more likely they are to get the best in state talent. If they’re getting it then it’s not going out of state. It’s sort of like trickle down talent. Tech has a better shot at higher caliber athletes if LSU gets the best and we compete for next best. If the best leave the state then the second best go to LSU and Tech is reduced to complete for 3rd best. In my mind that’s how it works.
For Tech’s sake, go Tigers.

Logical post. If LSU loses or wins the NC, no single soul in this state will think more highly or less of the dawgs. Our fate is set. We are not the school the average person in this state stands behind. We will be much better off when we understand that and stop the “go Clemson beat the tiggers” posts. We look like ULL fans at that point.
-
Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
I love to see the N. Louisiana bandwagon LSU fans melt down. If they lose, all of their fans will look at the whole year as a failure. Getting to the NC won't seem like an accomplishment, even though it was. For that reason alone, I would cheer for Clemson. Honestly, though, I would never ever cheer for lsu - I could never bring myself to do that. So, it was going to be whomever was playing them anyway.
Saying all that, I will be truthful in saying lsu looks really really good. In fact, they look better than they have ever looked. This is probably their year. I will still cheer Clemson on!!! Another good reason to cheer for Clemson is that if they win this, they will be considered right up there with Alabama as being a power house at the top. I would love seeing the SEC being knocked down a peg. As a bonus, I loved seeing a 7-5 (now 8 win) Louisville murder a (6-6) Mississippi State last night and give them a losing season.

LSU has homefield advantage. Their offense is potent. Their defense is good enough.
Clemson is Clemson, which today means, they are winners. They are underdogs for the second straight game. Those intangibles are important. Never overlook a champion!
But, LSU is on a mission. They are tuned-in and focused. So, they are not overlooking Clemson...besides, Clemson stands in their way from what they want. I think it will be a good game, but in the end, in the 4th qtr, Clemson's offense won't be able to match LSU's...all that said:
LSU 42 Clemson 31

I've said this before. Some refuse to admit that we will never get a any player lsu wants. They will always get the best in the state, but if they are focused on 4 star talent out of state, it leaves more 3 stars for us to go after who actually want to play before year 3.

I believe this was Coach Mickey Slaughter's philosophy too, when he used to hang out here on BB&B. I think Coach Mick believes that Tech recruiting benefits from LSU winning national championships, etc....for most of the reasons you stated. If Coach Mick is still lurking out there, maybe he will chime in. :)

Agreed. This is much of the reason LA Tech just signed more Louisiana Top 100 recruits (12, according to 247 Sports) during the early signing period than any other school. LSU only signed 7 of Louisiana's Top 100 (so far, but a few others may commit), mostly because LSU signs a lot of Texas and other out of state kids too.

I've been telling yall ... HE'S. A. SHILL. His standing orders from BR are to make sure lil' ol' Tech stays in its proper place.
Gamedays were getting too fun, so he had to take it down a notch. (or ten.)

Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
LSU national championship win
Pros:
LSU recruiting peaks leaving higher end players for Tech to compete for
LSU becomes a more attractive draw to camps in Louisiana so Tech gets a better selection to choose from
I think there is some extra attention on the success of Louisiana Colleges. It's been pointed out a few times how Tech, ULL, Tulane, and LSU all had good years.
Cons:
Bandwagon fans have more reason to abandon their Alma mater and cheer for the tiggers.
Have to listen to tigger fans crow about how great they are and everyone should support the "state school"
I'm fairly indifferent, but I think LSU will win it all this year. I wouldn't say I'm rooting for them, but I will watch with interest.
-

I agree with this. And for that reason, I WANT LSU to win this. BUT, out of the last five National Championship games, Clemson has been to four of them. That experience gives a program an edge. I also think Tarzan has a big chip on his shoulder to show he's a big deal QB too. ;)

This whole “state school” thing is signed, sealed and delivered. Those of you on this board that won’t recognize this are living with your heads in the sand. A loss to Clemson will not be a step-up in the “Tech is on equal playing field with LSU” debate. We have a lot more issues with our own athletic department to be worrying about Clemson beating LSU. They have arguably one of the best college football teams of all time this season. A very likable QB who transferred in and took over the state as the golden boy, won a Heisman, and will likely win the NC. If you all could take your Tech blinders off for a second you will see this.
Of course, I am considered a “tigger” fan and traitor for stating facts that aren’t “positive” toward your views on tech. I get that.
Ask my LSU friends and anyone that knows me personally. I am Tech through and through. I will never cheer for LSU. I am also a knowledgeable football fan, and consider myself a good fan because of it. LSU losing or winning will not reflect on our program at all. Their storybook season will be viewed as a historic year even if they lose to Clemson.

I actually don't care who you pull for, and don't understand why you want to tell people who we should be for. My team is not playing in the game, so I get to select another. I lived in Virginia and don't pull for them, I live in Louisiana, and don't pull for LSU. I never have and never will. I do pull for Baylor as well as TECH, but will proudly wear red and blue when we play in Waco next year. The stupidity of those that think because it is the "state school" is insane. I can't do anything about the Sonic workers and Walmart greeter fans, but I don't have to be part of the "we" because someone thinks I should. I will be cheering for Clemson. LSU winning or losing doesn't impact TECH, but if they lose, the fans at least stay contained for a little while.

Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
It’s a trick question.
I don’t care about the National Championship since my team isn’t in it. Won’t watch it. Won’t cheer for either team. Don’t care who wins.
I treat it the same way I treat a Super Bowl without the Saints. Not worth my time or money.

This is your post I, and a few others, are responding to. I will say it (post) as much as I want to.
"Go Clemson, beat the tiggers."
As for others' views, I will watch the game for the same reason I will watch games today. I am a college football fan. I only root for Tech, in CFB (and in a secondary way I also root for Notre Dame), but I enjoy watching football. And yes, as disgusting as it is, LSU has earned its way into the national championship game. Stepping back from my personal views, LSU is a good football team, and I will watch the game as a fan and enjoy watching the teams matching X's and O's.
And I will watch the Super Bowl, even without the Saints, for the same reason...I am a football fan.

LSU win won’t change the faith of Tech football. Tech chose its faith with the combos of Dr. Guice, TMac, and Skippy.
How many new Tech fans that we have won over with our amazing 6 bowl wins in a row - a few hundreds, a few thousands, or just a few?

I think there is some extra attention on the success of Louisiana Colleges. It's been pointed out a few times how Tech, ULL, Tulane, and LSU all had good years.
Cons:
1. Bandwagon fans have more reason to abandon their Alma mater and cheer for the tiggers.
2. Have to listen to tigger fans crow about how great they are and everyone should support the "state school"
I'm fairly indifferent, but I think LSU will win it all this year. I wouldn't say I'm rooting for them, but I will watch with interest.
I can reluctantly agree with most all of this, but two of those cons are almost unbearable for me. If so many of the LSU fans weren't of the knuckle-dragging mouth-breathing species I could put up with it, most of those are not true fans of the game and can't enjoy watching good talent play, they just bought a shirt and became a member of the tiger nation. You can not even have a conversation with them about some of the other NCAA teams around the country without them trying to beat their chest and talk about how much better " WE (LSU)" are when they have no idea who the other team is that you are referring to. They cry and call everyone else cheaters when LSU is out-played and/or out-coached. They all think they are Cajun now and spell everything with an "eaux" just because of Coach O who is quite a personality, apparently some of these people never had an identity in the first place.
There are many LSU fans out there who are great people who I enjoy having conversations with about how good their talent is and how lucky they are to have great coordinators in place. Those people are fun to converse with and many of them have the right to say "WE", they get the right to crow. Many of them are great fans who I can enjoy hanging out with, the Wal-mart brand of them...Not so much.

“Be true to your school”, and I will add team, through thick and thin. Anything else is bandwagon material and they might as well been wearing Alabama garbage the last decade. And in the pros, would you wear Philadelphia Eagle rags or hat after they won the SB two years ago, or NE Patriot crappola and cheer for them HD? You’ve lived in Texas long enough to know that a UT fan wouldn’t be caught dead wearing other universities crap or cheering for A&M or Oklahoma etc.... HD, did you wear an NLU outfit and take a pictures for your family and friends to see in Texas and LA when they went to the I-Bowl a few years back or SMU smit as they went undefeated for a long span this year? Do Alabama fans cheer for Auburn? Old Miss for Miss St? Oklahoma for OkSt? USC for UCLA? Florida for Florida St? Georgia for Georgia Tech? TCU for Baylor, SMU or Texas Tech? Hell would Army cheer for Navy or wear their clothes or hats? Muchness their fans put their BS pictures wearing other schools crap on Facebook or Instagram.

LSU is clearly the best team this year. They have had a phenomenal year and seem to be one of the best teams in recent memory honestly. I'm not sure what you mean by "Those of you on this board that won’t recognize this are living with your heads in the sand". Are you saying they are the state school and we have some sort of obligation to root for them? If so I strongly disagree.
I have a group text with 6 friends who are all Tech alumni and none of them went to LSU besides me. There are 3 out of the 6 (7 counting me) who follow LSU and cheer for LSU. To me this is only acceptable under the following circumstances:
1. You went to LSU (not the case for this group)
2. You support the school you actually went to at a higher rate than LSU (attend more games, provide more financial support etc.)
3. You don't denigrate your Alma Mater in an attempt to justify your support for LSU.
4. You don't try to convince others that they should support LSU because of some sort of Louisiana loyalty.
These rules are universal and can apply to other Louisiana institutions as well. If someone is a ULM or ULL grad and they support their school I respect that. I will give them a hard time sometimes, but I respect that they support their school. If They break the rules above, then I don't have much respect for them.
If you are a Tech fan, you are welcome to cheer for Clemson or LSU as you see fit IMO. No judgement from me.

Agree. I'm usually pretty tolerant of LSU talk, but when Tech grads start telling me how great the Tigers are and they are the "state school" I want to lose my lunch.
If you want to talk about how good they are, fine. If you want to talk trash, you better be a graduate of LSU or I'm going to dismiss your opinion as a desperate hanger on.

Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
The outcome makes no difference to Tech, IMO. In my experience, these bandwaggoners are not folks who spend a bunch of money at LSU that they WOULD have spent at Tech if LSU wasn't so good. PD may be on to something with the ease of recruiting in-state folks that are "beneath" a top 5 LSU. Who knows? I think the key to Tech taking the next step toward being like Boise is beating P5 also-rans for in-state talent. We do it here and there, but I think we've got a lot of room for growth. A Louisiana kid should never consider Kansas or even WVU over staying home to play for the dawgs.

TCU is the one that has beaten us up the most. Our bigger problem is the pay to play money we are not willing to give at this point. We have fans who think we should pay more to keep coaches who we can't pay enough to keep, but they ignore the money LaLaff and other peers are able to pay out to players.

I disagree. The bandwagons/Walmart "fans" have already purchased and will continue to buy their purple and piss colored merchandize for mega $$ and probably at least a families worth of ticket to 1 game in their lifetime or every 5 years; as well as spent hours and hours watching and cheering for the purple and pee brainwashing their kids at the same time. That makes a huge difference in my book to TECH. Tech could use this money and fan support especially in N. La. and definitely from our much smaller alumni base.

I’ll watch it just cause Burrow is a once in a lifetime college player.
LSU wins - great
Clemson wins - ok
I think LSU doing well opens the door to some lower level 3 star guys for us. As long as Tech and LSU have football camps together, coaching clinics together and Holtz / O maintain their professional friendship, I’ll pull for LSU. I believe LSU has put us o kids that were not quite at LSU’s standards.
My money is on Clemson - I got them at +9.5 from an arrogant LSU fan - we’ll see.

I think people want to believe that argument so they can have an excuse to cheer for them. It doesn't make sense and never has. LSU has had a great year, but I hope it ends next Monday night with an L.

Not at all. I'll be cheering for Dabo and his crew. Clemson has more tradition than most SEC teams and certainly more loyal fans. That said, I won't lose sleep if lsu wins. If you gonna be a good lsu hater like me and others be sure to NEVER say lsu in caps.:)

 I actually used to do the lsu thing myself- now, I don't care that much. I have heard from several people why I should cheer for them an how that helps us when they do well. LSU winning does not help keep the top talent in-state.
Top 25 (2 unsigned)
lsu - 6
UGA - 2
TCU - 2
Virginia - 2
Auburn - 1
Colorado - 1
aTm - 1
Florida State - 1
Kentucky - 1
Florida - 1
Vandy - 1
Bama - 1
Tulane - 1
Louisville - 1
Arkansas - 1
We signed 12 of top 100, but highest ranked was 41. Les Miles got 2 to Kansas before we got our first.

I know that's just a one-off single year, and additional historical data would be helpful.
But this information would appear to militate against the argument that lsu success yields better recruits for Tech.

Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
2019 - LSU 10 (8 of top 10) other P5 14, UTSA 1 - Tech highest rated 27
2018 - LSU 11, other P5 13, Tulane 1 - Tech highest rated 31
2017 - LSU 7, Bama 3, other P5 13, Houston 1, Tech 1
2016 - LSU 16, other p5 9 - Tech's highest 40
2015 - LSU 11 - rest p5 - Tech's highest 48

I've said before that I find the recruitment of high school athletes a rather unseemly business. And also that high school performance is often an unreliable predictor of college success. I'd be more interested whether there's any correlation between lsu's win percentage and Tech's.
So if lsu winning more football games means Tech gets more 3+ star recruits .... meh, so what?
But if lsu winning more football games corresponds to Tech winning more football games ... I'm not gonna become a chigger fan, but you might could convince me to be neutral.

Based on my highly scientific analysis (and using my own Elo scores), Tech success and lsu success are not correlated.

Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
Just an observation, but it's been a long season for both Clemson and the poosters. Just think, they started fall practice back in August, both have played 14 games, and the last two have had extended breaks between them, 3 weeks and now 2 weeks+. Lots of practice time along the way. Having to stay in focus the whole time and remain in "football mode" has to be grueling.
Oh wait....the same can be said about North Dakota State and JMU!
Never mind...

I agree with you.

Re: Who are you pulling for in National Championship game? LSU? Clemson?
Y'all are looking at this as what impact this has on Tech FOOTBALL...oh, we can get better recruits, etc. I am looking at it from an overall "TECH" impact. How does an LSU victory help TECH at a University level? IT DOESN'T. NOT ONE BIT.
As we've seen at LSU/BR, Alabama, Boise State (after the famous Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma), and other schools who've done well at football, there is an uptick to their enrollment numbers. After all, the "cool kids" want to say they go to school at one of these winners.
So break it down. TOPS helps students IN Louisiana go to LOUISIANA schools...an LSU win just makes the purple & golden-showers more attractive for these great students. It makes it more difficult to recruit students to TECH. It impacts our ability to expand course offerings and fill our graduate school.
For Louisiana Tech as a taxpayer supported, in-state institution, we COMPETE with LSU. Therefore, I will be cheering for an embarrassing loss for them at the hands of Clemson (although it's highly unlikely).
