Nice grab!
He has 11 offers with 5-6 very impressive.

Re: QB flips to Tech from Harvard
I like it. Need more talent in the QB room.

Meh..Harvard. Louisiana Tech. What's the difference?

Where have #'s 1-29 received offers from?

The difference is that at Harvard, your only option is indoctrination. At Tech, you can get an education.

This might be one of our best signees in a long time.

We should let our expert QB coach (COYHCSH) be the judge of that. He probably won't be the Rock Star Smith was, but can he test negative even when he knows the test is coming?
-
Re: QB flips to Tech from Harvard
He's from the same high school in Lafayette as Griffin Hebert. St. Thomas More.
As HogDawg said, crazy high passing numbers. Let's hope he goes for an engineering degree so he will be with us for four years. :)

Re: QB flips to Tech from Harvard
Choosing Tech over Harvard (or was it Yale?) seemed to work out okay for Xavier Woods
-
Re: QB flips to Tech from Harvard
In other St. Thomas More news a fella named Nate Cox had gaudy numbers there, walked on here a couple years ago, blocked a field goal and left for JUCO. He’s now going to Nevada.

Offers from the following with emphasis on the underlined and bolden:
Boston College
Harvard
Louisiana Tech
S. Miss
ULL
Dartmouth
Tulsa
Cincinnati
UTSA
Missouri
W. Kentucky
This young athlete is obviously very cerebral and watching his highlights is really good. I like that he waited and used his head to decide on the choice. I also doubt ULL was ever in the hunt in his mind or his folks. I think he's a huge grab for the staff and Tech football.

Holstein is one of the best that I've ever seen in person. Two summers ago, we went down to STM for a 7-on-7 tournament. I got to stand on the field just a few yards away from Holstein as he was carving up our defense. He spins the ball better than anybody I've witnessed live at the high school level. He has a quick, easy release and tremendous accuracy. And the best part is that what I saw in 7-on-7 was backed up by production in pads on Friday nights. This kid is one of the best QBs in Louisiana over the past two decades and was talented enough to keep his job despite immense pressure from a talented backup QB who committed to LSU as a sophomore.
The one thing that doesn't make sense to me is the fact that Holstein was willing to grayshirt and that we asked him to do so. I figured he would have plenty of options to get into school immediately and start competing. Reading the tea leaves, I would assume this means that Luke Anthony has the inside track to win the starting job for next season and that Aaron Allen and Holstein will battle for the starting job in 2021.

My guess is we knew we were getting the ACU transfer and already signed JD Head. We already have 4 QBs on the roster.
-
Re: QB flips to Tech from Harvard
When talking about our QB situation in yesterday's press conference, Skip didn't say squat about Jakson Thomson. Made me wonder if he was even with the team any more. All of the talk for the starting QB for 2020 was about Allen, Anthony, Elliot, and the freshman we signed in December, JD Head.
-
Re: QB flips to Tech from Harvard
So, basically, we have about 9 QB’s. So we still don’t have one.
-
Re: QB flips to Tech from Harvard
If Westin Elliott is the starter I won’t watch a game this year.

Good info, Brett. I'm excited about his potential.
Like you, I'm not sure I understand what's in it for an athlete to accept a "Gray shirt"? Then again, I'm not real familiar with the Gray shirt rules. Does this mean he forfeits a red shirt year? Or does the clock officially start on "5 years to play 4" when he first gray shirts?
-
Re: QB flips to Tech from Harvard
He enrolls for the Winter Quarter so when he participates in Spring practice in 2021, he has 5 years to play 4 starting then. So he could take a redshirt in 2021 if he doesnt win the starting job and then play in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.

It's Tim Rattay's fault.

Re: QB flips to Tech from Harvard
Gray shirts don't sign a LOI either right?
This allows them to walk away to another opportunity without the one year penalty. It also keeps the school from having to count the player in the numbers for the current year.

So, it sounds like Holstein just waited too late to switch his commitment to LA Tech, and we had already signed the Anthony kid from ACU.

Re: QB flips to Tech from Harvard
Holstein had to have signed a LOI, otherwise Holtz wouldn't have been able to say his name or mention a single thing about him at the press conference.
Eligibility is based upon when they actually enroll for classes, not when they sign the LOI.
-
Re: QB flips to Tech from Harvard
So does no one have any information about Jakson Thomson? Is he still with the program? Maybe just isn't progressing? Anything?
He sounded promising coming out of high school. Of course, the shiny new thing almost always seems more promising than what you have had sitting on the shelf for a couple of years.

Interesting. Can he be mentioned if he is receiving a "Grant in Aid"?

No. GIA is non-binding, so the student-athlete is still considered a recruitable athlete.

That's what I was thinking. I was basing my question on '96s comment...

Well what are the stats between his Jr and Sr year? Did they get worse when Rattay left? I think we ended up with a historic season despite the rockstar’s suspension.

Yes, his offenses have been a thing of beauty. LOVE the delay hand off on 3rd and 15 that is his "go to play" .

Lest we forget the other 3rd and 15 play, the 10 yard skip pass or airmail.

Redemption is available to all who seek it. For most of us, it's a very good thing that it is.

And hopefully Holtz will redeem himself and get us a good QB this time around.

Re: QB flips to Tech from Harvard
My two cents on recruiting. I think the 14-0 shutout of Miami will pay dividends for at least this year in putting Tech on the radar of prospects who otherwise may not have considered Tech. Possibly getting another 1 or 2 4-stars. That said, remember QB MVP Patrick Mahomes was a three star at recruitment time.. :)
