Lost two, but gained five. Plus year.
I thought DeAndre Marcus had a lot of promise at RB. This is disappointing.
Did they, Floyd and Marcus, give any reason for wanting to transfer?

Quote:
DeAndre Marcuswill "have three years of eligibility remaining and he told The News-Star he'll likely look to join a junior college program for the upcoming season in hopes to “go bigger.”"
So....we still need at least one more RB. And once these two seniors (Henderson & Tucker) leave after the 2020 season, we're apparently going to have an empty backfield unless we find some RB's pretty quick.
Quote:
Marcus’ departure leaves Tech with just two running backs with significant playing time in redshirt senior pair Justin Henderson and Israel Tucker for 2020. It’s possible that head coach Skip Holtz and his offensive staff could be looking to add a tailback via the transfer portal this offseason to help with depth concerns at the position.
We are thin at RB. Only four listed on the roster, two RS-Sr, a RS-Fr, and a true Fr. Possible I am not seeing the latest roster. There is a 2021 RB commit (who also happens to be a Ruston High guy as DeAndre Marcus). Wonder if Holtz is going to try another WR to RB conversion like he did with McKnight. Are there any other skill players on this team not listed as RBs who might have some experience as a RB in high school?
RBs were available locally, but our coaches have been sleeping on the job. Holtz said in a recent interview that Craft did a great job of replacing Kenneth Dixon. He continues to ignore Boston Scott and his body of work at Tech
Where is Elijah Hines?!
Speaking of our 2021 RB commit.....

I will be SUPER impressed with Skip Holtz if he can hold Hargrove's commit. Hargrove has got a lot of schools chasing him.
Quote:
Louisiana Tech landed Hargrove’s commitment on May 12 during the dead period and since then he has added offers from South Carolina and Florida State with more likely to come. Baylor, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, and Boston College are his other reported Power 5 offers.
Hargrove would be wise to consider that Dixon and Scott are in the NFL and if he wants to make a splash, to stand out, then Tech is a place he can do that. Rack up some big numbers, go high in the NFL draft...just saying.

Stay home in Ruston Hargrove.
I've seen some speculation that because of the pandemic there were tons of earlier than usual commits - which will likely translate into a record number of "decommits" as the process plays out.
If Hargrove is smart he will stay locally. Number of years back RHS had a start, think his name was Davis, went to Auburn. Bont think he ever played.
Sounds like you're talking about Roymon Malcom. He eventually transferred to NWST. I believe he suffered a knee injury at Auburn. He passed away several years back in a car accident. He was a stud in high school. Before him Ruston High had Jerald Kennedy and he played for Tech.

So difficult for practically all 17 and 18 year olds to see the big picture with all the shine and glory of the big stage the P5’s can sell. Thing is he won’t be the only stud RB that P5 is bringing in and it will typically take more work and playbook study than it ever took to succeed above the others......more than it took in high school.
Not that it is much different in a C-USA, but an above average talent should stand out more than the rest (like Amik or Dixon or Carlos or Troy or etc....). Meaning, that talent would naturally stand out a bit more at a LA Tech vs an LSU. Of course sometimes it seems the coaches might miss where on who is has the most talent at a position at a certain time (as in a Boston Scott ).
Hargrove would have plenty of opportunities at Tech to show what he’s got against the P5s. I doubt I can fault him much though if he chooses to go elsewhere. But if he does, I hope he doesn't end up being another big LA recruit that practically disappears in college football for whatever reason after opting to go to an elite program.
I totally understand what you are saying. But when I hear about a verbal before the senior season, I take it with a grain of salt.
This guy shot up so fast I would now be shocked if he stays with us. I will admit though I was hopeful. I thought maybe being from Ruston his dream was to one day play football at Tech where all of his family and friends could watch him be great in person each week just like it has been his whole life.
One thing Skip seems to be good at is not burning any bridges. A guy like this may opt for the big time but regret it later and want to come home. So we may lose him initially but get him back later.
Most of these kids are used to being the team stud, and it can be a harsh dose of reality when they get to a place like LSU and see the other talent on hand.
The semantics of this process can be frustrating, and a new word instead of "commit" would mitigate that some. But I think the most sanity-saving option is just to edit these recruiting "commitments" in your head to "intentions" or something. I don't know that the stake-holders are likely to change their terminology at this point. English, man - what a frustrating mess of an evolving language, right?
And the other interesting factor in this whole tangle of 2020 recruiting is that if the number of early "commitments" is higher than normal at the same time in previous years (I've seen some numbers and I think it's way higher than usual for all the obvious reasons) that means that the schools are in the same boat - and we will also likely see higher than usual numbers for offers pulled or pressure to greyshirt or all the other shady tactics from the coach side of the scale. Because all up and down the chain, you're going to have the same problems.
If Miami loses a "commitment" to FSU because that kid just wanted to lock down a spot and "committed" to the first school that offered but later reconsidered - that just means Miami is going after UCF's higher than usual recruit at the same position, and then UCF is going after FIU's, etc. This happens every year, but it's likely to be big this go around. But also if in the above scenario FSU already had a slightly less-preferred recruit at that position, they may be showing that guy the door (so maybe that's good for the G5 schools and we grab some of those dudes).
I really hope Hargrove sticks with Tech. Obviously.
Well he was committed for 64 days. Now we are not in his reported top three (Florida State, Penn State and South Carolina). Glad we didn't get real excited about his early commitment. Really wish he would have stayed with us, but it is time to move on. I wish him the best. Go Bulldogs. By the way, is anyone else ready for some football?
Yeah, wasn’t much of a question of if but when this would happen. Hope he succeeds wherever he decides to go. Interesting top 3 with the ACC, the Big10, and the SEC schools he lists. I tend to believe that top 3 list will change too before he officially signs somewhere. He simply lists the arguably three biggest programs who have offered to date.
He may be taking interest as a commutable offer on some.
Hargrove is in the portal. Think he's coming back home?
Floyd seems to have played a little for Northwestern.
Did Marcus ever play college ball? Juco?
the entire portal and nil process has really turned me off from college athletics - especially college football. Talking with other college football fans, I am not the only one that is focusing time away from the sport to other hobbies.
