Maybe a few games worth watching
Two interesting games in the Big Ten. First Indiana’s Cinderella glass slipper gets crushed this weekend by Ohio State. And Wisconsin faces Northwestern in a Top 25 matchup. Wisconsin can take control as the biggest challenger for Ohio State with a win. Watch Wisconsin’s QB Graham Mertz, the highest rated QB recruit in Wisconsin history, he could be pretty good. Second game back from his Big Ten 21 day mandated “Corona suspension”.
Other interesting games, # 15 Coastal is a five-point favorite against Appy State. #18 Oklahoma is a touchdown favorite against #14 OK State. #21 Liberty tries to make it 3 in a row over the ACC this season, but they are underdogs against NC State. Lastly playoff busting #7 Cincinnati opened against UCF as a toss-up but is now a 5.5-point favorite. Hopefully, Cincinnati can keep its winning streak alive and make the playoff committee members feel a little uncomfortable.
Lots of postponed or cancelled games, but still a few worth watching, if they don’t get postponed before kick-off.

I don't usually watch LSU games, but they travel to Fayetteville tomorrow to play a much improved Arkansas @11 AM CST. I think I'll watch this one.

Be interesting to see what Feleipe Franks can do against that LSU defense. Could have a career day!

Same with me.... I want lsu to keep losing. Of course, their losing this year will be explained away by the strange season. Regardless, I want to see them lose the rest of their games. :D

Normally wouldn’t but today I have to go with the unpopular choice. Razorback fans are every bit as obnoxious as LSU fans, and a hell of a lot more delusional. I hope LSU finishes them off in the 2nd half.

What? I don’t know one that even expected more than one win before this year. LSU starts thinking Natty after winning their first game every season.

LSU is usually in the top 10.
Razorback fans got cocky quick this year after they realized they might actually win a game or two.

In Power 6 action UCF and Cincinnati every bit as good as advertised. Cincinnati up 19-17 at half. Play of note Cincinnati goes for 2-point conversion and comes up inches short. Time will tell if that was the right call.

Wisconsin is out of the play-off hunt. Does Ohio State have a defense that can make a stop, if needed, to win a national championship? Did not look like it today.

Re: Maybe a few games worth watching
Bedlam was boredom as Oklahoma cruised 41-13.
#21 Liberty loses a heartbreaker 15-14 to NC State. A victory would have been the third over an ACC team this season. Heck of a second year as a full FBS team. The good news is Hugh Freeze issued a pretty strong denial about his interest in the South Carolina job. Being a private school Liberty does not release coaches salaries. ESPN speculated his salary is at least $3 million. I think Freeze might very well hold out for a better job than South Carolina.
Indiana did themselves proud against Ohio State, only losing by a TD. Tom Allen is doing a great job at Indiana.
Pat Fitzgerald is also doing a great job at Northwestern. Great win for his team against Wisconsin today.
Great win for Cincinnati as they try to play play-off buster.

Re: Maybe a few games worth watching
Enjoyed the Notre Dame win tonite over UNC, 31-17. UNC was leading the nation in total offense, but after the first two drives, the Irish D really shut down the Heels.
Liberty beat UMASS 45-0. Yeah, everyone beats UMASS, and easily. Gotta be tough to be a player/coach/fan of UMASS.
Iowa State beat Texas 23-20. ULL's win over them is looking better every week.
Tomorrow...Gig 'em Aggies, beat dem tiggers!

Any day ND loses is a good day. But they appear to be legitimate this year, and deserving of their ranking. Unlike most years when they’re significantly overrated.

Not sure the PAC 12 is over-rated. The consensus is they are at best the 4th to 5th best conference, with the Big 12. Do you feel the AAC is also a better conference?

I do, at least in recent years. I started to make a joke about how the PAC 12 should be wearing the P6 stickers, and not the AAC.
All the yaking about the Big XII is silly. It was only 11 months ago that the Big XII had 3 Top 25 teams playing in major bowls games, including OU in the College Football Playoff. #4 OU played #1 LSU in the Peach Bowl, #7 Baylor played #5 Georgia in the Sugar bowl, and #25 OSU played TX A&M. In other bowls; Texas played #11 Utah, Iowa St played #15 Notre Dame & KSU played #23 Navy. Yeah, the Big XII lost most of the bowl games, but wow, that was a brutal schedule of bowl competition. They played #1, #5, #11, #15, #23 and unranked TX A&M. :shocked2:
The Big XII will be back.

I tend to agree that the AAC compares to the Pac 12, which is amazing when you look at budgets and recruiting advantages the Pac 12 enjoys. Part of it is better coaching, but imagine if the dollars were equal.

.....Oh....maybe having two teams (out of only 10 in the league) ranked the national Top 7, like they did last year. That's pretty reputable, and it hasn't been that long ago.

Good post. I think the AAC has definitely catapulted itself into the winners circle. With the emergence of Cincinnati's and Memphis's programs as recent football powers, UCF's undeniable football success, and recently ranked football programs at Houston, Navy, SMU, & Temple, the AAC has earned their stripes. Even former conference doormat Tulsa is ranked #25 right now. Heck, even Tulane is experiencing a measure of success....at least for Tulane.
So, the AAC has at least 8 or 9 solid football programs, out of 11 members. The Pac12 can't touch that.

Intentionally kicking the ball out of the end zone should have an option for a loss of down penalty at the previous spot instead of an automatic safety.

Still Rice 10 Marshall 0.

Pick 6 for Rice.
Rice 20 Marshall 0 7:50 3rd.
Marshall has both starting OTs out. Seems like I've seen that show somewhere before....

Re: Maybe a few games worth watching
Marshall just threw INT #5.
Rice has it at the Marshall 23 with 3:38 left in the 3rd. Still 20-0 Owls.
ETA...Rice lost a fumble out of the end zone on another bang-bang goal line play.
Marshall fans are having fun (not) dealing with Antee and his crew today.
Starting the 4th at 20-0.

Marshall is very beatable without both starting tackles. Not running very well, and the redshirt freshman QB is being lit up.
Rice didn't even travel its starting QB.

Syracuse is the worst team in a mostly mediocre ACC. Notre Dame only had two (Clemson, North Carolina) of the other four best ACC teams on its schedule.

Re: Maybe a few games worth watching
For the record, the c-hawks tied Arkansas State at 7 before the Red Wolves scored 31 straight.
C-hawks number of seconds leading in a game this season is still equal to the number of points Marshall scored today--zero.

But! they were tied for a period of time. They are making progress.
As for ND...the verdict is still out on them re: their deserved inclusion in the CFP. But, they can pass that test by beating Clemson a second time. ND is very good, but a team has to be great to win a national championship.

Two actually. First one should have been a flag, and the second one five seconds later should have been an ejection. Ref stood right there and did nothing, and it nearly led to a major brawl heading to the locker room.
Flag came out fast to start the second half when they hit Wilson again.

This is being done with top 5 ranked recruiting classes and four and five star athletes on both sides of the ball. They should never look this "down".
I think Coach O is a great fit for them, just keep them away from transfer-portal quarterbacks and they'll be just like I want them.

....Our team needs some of that attitude. I'm not condoning "cheap shots", but everybody doesn't have to be a Boy Scout.
Those great LA Tech teams in the early 1970's that posted a 44-4 record over 4 years were loaded with bad attitudes. Fred Dean, Joe McNeely, et al....were NOT nice players. They were very mean on the field. I think that's healthy for a football team.

Hah!
Rice 20 Marshall 0
Ga. Southern 20 FAU 3
The two, "oh, look at us [kiss, kiss], aren't we just great!" east CUSA squads got pummeled today. Got so sick & tired of MU and FAU fans posting how great they are and how much better the east division is, blah, blah, blah...well, news flash! You are in CUSA, which means you suck too!
Oh, how those arrogant fans liked to post that the east division winner will cakewalk over the west division winner in the CCG. Rice showed 'em they ain't much better, (no better!) than the west. We are all in CUSA, we all suck collectively.
And look at Coastal...wow! but they have been at this stuff a long time. Why, this is their 4th season in FBS, ya know! I suppose when Louisiana Tech has that many years to build a program, we might be good too.

Talking about going forward. Never has seemed fair that a team can benefit by using an illegal kick to give up just 2 points instead of turning the ball over deep in its own territory.

What are you talking about? So, you seriously have a problem with a football team --forget that it's ULL for a minute-- ANY FOOTBALL TEAM, taking a proactive safety to get out of poor field position? It's a strategic part of the game, and it's been around since the dawn of football time. If you think that's "illegal", you probably have a problem with a lot of other long-time rules too.

Just because something may have been around since the "dawn of time" doesn't mean it shouldn't be changed. Perfect examples are the forward pass which was originally illegal from when the first official rules were formulated in 1876 until 1906 or when 4th down was added in 1912.
It's one thing to take a safety when the player is in possession of the football. That is a "proactive" safety.
I'm talking about a loose ball not in possession being illegally kicked or illegally batted which are 10 yards plus loss of down penalties. The defense should have the option of taking the penalty with loss of down if the ball goes out of the end zone. On any down other than 4th down, the defensive team will take the safety every time. But the defense should have the option of the 10-yard penalty from the previous spot when that would give the defensive team possession if the foul happens on 4th down.

So.....you're talking about a play OTHER THAN the ULL safety at the end of their Appy St game? Because the play I saw with approximately 1:30 left, nobody kicked or illegally batted the football. It was not a loose ball. The ULL QB simply took the snap and headed for the end zone behind him.

On the previous ULL possession when the Cajuns were up by 7 their punter kicked the ball out of the back of the end zone after one of the several snaps went over his head. That is the play I am talking about.
Intentional safeties with ball in possession like the ULL QB gave up to cut their lead from 5 to 3 are a perfectly legitimate strategy.

Re: Maybe a few games worth watching
Rice ground up UAB's depleted defense in a 19-play drive for a FG on its opening possession. UAB has two 3-and-outs. Rice up 3-0 with 13:00 left in the half and is driving again.
Rice adds another FG to make it 6-0 with 10:09 left in the 2nd.
Blazers offense woke up with a long pass play to start a TD drive. 7-6 UAB 6:55 2nd.
Rice retakes the lead 13-7 after a long drive aided by two UAB penalties. And that's halftime.

Re: Maybe a few games worth watching
UAB is now torching the Rice secondary. Two quick Blazer TDs have made in 21-13 with 10:16 left in the 3rd.

Of course, I may be biased... but Army won best uniform this year. But it was very close.
