Saints are toast. Had another nice run, but typical of this team, the playoff WTF game is to come.

Already had it against Philly.

Yeah picking one team to not win the Super Bowl is a pretty good bet, especially the Saints based on recent playoff history. Two weeks ago I would say flip a coin between the Steelers and Chiefs, but the Steelers lost two in a row. The NFC is wide open, anybody but whatever wins the East (probably WFT). If I had to pick right now I would say Chiefs over Packers. Going with the chalk. Maybe the Steelers, Bills, Saints or Rams could make it interesting. Now if the Browns could........................... I won't even say it.

Steelers lose three in a row. Chiefs are clear AFC favorites now, followed by the Bills. Steelers recent drop off is historic. Only thing they have going for them is Saints lost three in a row before 2009 playoffs.

Re: Saints expected to start Brees
Way back in September, I picked Tampa Bay vs. Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl. But, the Steelers are tanking and the Bucs have never lived up to standards. As for the Saints, they will find a way to lose a playoff game. Doesn't matter if it's in the 1st or 2nd round, because ultimately losing is losing. It's what they do.
The AFC appears to be Chiefs vs. Bills, and the NFC is....well, I guess the Packers is one of the teams, and who knows about the other? The NFC is very weak this year. There is an opportunity for just about any team to get hot, and a little lucky, and make a playoff run, which will probably end up on "the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field!"

The problem for the Saints the past 3 seasons is the fact their O Line has been banged up each year in the playoffs.
The same thing is happening right now with Easton out and Peat battling nagging injuries. Cesar Ruiz has also never been 100% since training camp. Armstread is just coming back from 2 weeks of Covid where he didn't see the light of day.
If they can somehow get healthy, they'll have a shot.Like many in both the New Orleans and national media, I like the idea of the Saints playing Green Bay in the cold and on grass in an empty Lambeau than the Packers coming to New Orleans to an empty Dome. The Packers appear to be the turf team while the Saints - if mostly healthy - appear to be built for a slower track in the cold.

Re: Saints expected to start Brees
Saints score 52 and Brees has zero TD passes. Meanwhile Brady throws 4 more yesterday to widen his lead for all-time #1 in TD passes. Brees is the first QB to pass the 80,000 yard passing mark. Brady is the first, and only, player in NFL history to make the playoffs 12 straight seasons. That and his 6 Super Bowl rings, and has led his team to the SB 9 times, is why he is such a winner. Look at what has happened to Bilichick and his Pats...stuck with one of the crappiest QBs ever, Cam Newton , and Tampa Bay breaks their 12-year drought of missing the playoffs with Tom Terrific at QB. There is NO doubt who is the GOAT QB.
As for the Saints, we won't go anywhere unless that defense we had earlier this year shows up for the playoffs. The last three games they have stunk. It is true, KC and Minnysoda have two of the top 5 offenses in the NFL this year, so....but the Eagles suck and they ran all over the D. Drew Brees will NOT win the Saints another Super Bowl...that is, he won't be the reason the team wins, if indeed it does. The defense, the rest of the offense, and the damn special teams! all need to step up big time.
Who Dat! Go Saints!

Re: Saints expected to start Brees
At this point, the Saints should rest every starter until the playoffs.
-
Re: Saints expected to start Brees
Good chance we beat Carolina with every bench player getting a start.

Saints are still alive for the #1 seed...but have to beat Carolina to even have a chance. Then, failing that, there's the #2 seed to shoot for, because we want Seattle pushed down to #3 so an NFC semi-final would be Seattle at New Orleans, not the other way around. Winning out in Seattle is tough, even w/o a big crowd.
In case you didn't know, the Saints earn the #1 seed ONLY IF they, Green Bay and Seattle all finish 12-4. Saints have the tie-breaker in the 3-way tie scenario.

Nah! no way we beat Carolina w/o our starters, and they probably going most of the way. Hopefully the Saints can build a nice lead and then rest the starters, but I doubt that. Those Dirty Kats won't do us any favors, they will play hard and play to win.

I didn’t know that. I was thinking Green Bay had it because of head to head.

If the Saints and Seahawks win this week and the Packers lose to the Bears the Saints will have the No. 1 seed.

Drew Brees clearly isn't healthy. Let's see what he looks like in 2 weeks if he can avoid any big hits this week.

I agree. How many games has Drew played this season with Thomas AND Sanders? 2? 3?
We’ll need both to make a run. Plus, we have to have good Cooks, not the bad version.
May not matter if we’ve gotta go through GB.

10 Quarters with Thomas

HCSP saving as many as he can for the playoffs.

Yep, that's why Thomas is being held out of these last few regular season games. He could play, but why take the chance? Saw an interview with Brees and he said he needs these reps, not so much to get the rust off, but just so he can feel comfortable and confident his injured ribs aren't a limiting factor.
How good are the Packers? No, truly? I have seen them play several times and yeah, they're "good," but not NE Patriot kind of good when the Pats had "Super Bowl Champs" written all over them. Aaron Rodgers is good...very good, but he has had his WTF moments and games in his playoff career. So... Same is true for the Seasickhawks...just don't want to play them out in Seattle. The Saints, Packers, and Seasickhawks are the top 3 contenders, but heck, this is the NFL and anything can happen. The NFC East champion, with a losing record, could play spoiler for someone. Those Cowgirls are surging! Actually, I think Mike McCarthy is a good coach and the 'girls have a bunch of talent.
Takes two things to win a championship: 1) a great defense, and 2) a championship caliber QB. The Saints have both...when they show up. Problem for the Saints is that "losers' curse," guaranteed to have something weird happen that costs us a playoff game. Has happened just about every year we lose in the playoffs. That is, in recent times, early on we just got our butts kicked in the playoffs. The last time that happened, as I remember it, was the 2006 NFC championship game at Chicago when we lost something like 37-13, or whatever the final score was.
Geaux Saints!

Unfortunately they may not have Kamara in the first game.
If they don't get the bye, the Saints will open the playoffs either next Saturday or Sunday. The NFL isn't expected to announce the wild card schedule until this Sunday, but if the Saints draw a Saturday date, Kamara wouldn't be permitted to play.

Re: Saints expected to start Brees
As usual, something goofy will happen to the Saints. Not having Kamara, just when he had just shaken off the nagging injuries and was playing well again, is par for the course.

Just like last year with Payton's engagement party that went on into the wee hours of the morning just 48 hours before the Falcon's game. The loss cost them dearly at the end of the season.
Self inflicted wounds.

Re: Saints expected to start Brees
Saints get Tom Brady again. Can they beat him...and the Bucs...for a third time this year? Historic note, in his 20 years Brady has only lost to the same team twice in the same season once, just once. Yes, 2020, this year to the Saints twice. Now the Saints have to make it thrice. I have my doubts.
And dang! poor ole Steelers forgot to show up tonite...end of the 1st qtr Browns 28 Steelers 0

Re: Saints expected to start Brees
D80, I am hopeful since a couple of guys didn’t have any contact in practice this week that they will be ready for the Bucs next week. Hopefully, Hill isn’t too dinged up after tweaking his knee. Have to shut down Evans and get at least 1 INT.

I see Brady taking a tremendous beating just like Farve in his last game in the dome.

This wasn’t on the defense. Without 3 turnovers, Brady doesn’t score over 20.

This outcome was so predictable.
And poor old noodle arm Brees sold his soul for this one last chance at another SB. Good riddance.

I don’t know about being predictable but I agree with us heading to the next phase of the Saints without Brees. Let’s bring it on!

14 off turnovers directly attributable to Jared Cook.
How predictable that GLM and PD are haters!

CSP must be a hater. He had to bring in Winston to throw a deep pass.
Brees played two years longer than he should have. TB dared Brees to go downfield all day and he couldn't.

I actually like us going forward with Winston and Hill taking snaps. Jared Cook needs to find he way out of NOLA.

I agree on both.
I would seek to trade MT while his value is high and get some draft/veteran help if possible.

As much as I would hate to lose him, I tend to agree. Like Horn, Colston, and Graham, he has been a fun guy to watch catch the ball. I also feel like most anyone can be good in SP’s system. He finds a way to plug guys in ala Bill Belichick.

Total agreement here.

Re: Saints expected to start Brees
Brees has never had a strong arm, even 15 years ago. But his total lack of throwing downfield this year, especially at the end, was greatly hampered by, I don't know, maybe those BROKEN RIBS! Ya think!?
Brees would make someone a great OC and QB coach. He's got all the money he'll ever need, but if he needs to stay in the game, then OC makes sense.
As for Tom Brady...what can ya say? The guy is a winner. If I were an NFL GM and had the opportunity to draft any QB who had ever played...yes, I mean Sammy Baugh, Bart Starr, Johnny Unitas, Joe Montana, you name 'em...I'd take Tom Brady. He is not the BEST in every category, but he is a close 2nd in those he's not the best in. Overall, he is the GOAT, because he WINS!
Back in September, in a pool I joined (it only cost $5) I picked the SB to be Steelers vs. Buccaneers. Pittsburgh started well but tanked! So, I won't win the pool, but I hope the Bucs make it.

Why was he on the field if he was still injured? He was hurting his team if he couldn’t throw down field because he was still injured.
TBH, he has looked a lot more skittish in the pocket the last two years to the point it impacted his accuracy on shorter throws.

Loyalty of HCSP to his players is endearing and players love it. But like you, I dislike this part of SP as of fan. And it’s a huge reason for his downfall.
