Holtz Still in the Running for KU job?????
Looking on the internet this morning, I came across an article giving an update on the KU Head Coach Hiring Process. Here is the link:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nca...6U8?li=BBnb7Kz
In the article, I quotes Adam Rittenberg (@ESPNRittenberg) as stating: "Would expect a #Kansas coaching hire by the end of this week. Most attention has been around #Buffalo's Lance Leipold and #Arem's Jeff Monken, but #LouisianaTech's Skip Holtz is very much a contender, I'm told. All three in mid-50s with plenty of HC experience"
Of course, as if to dash any real hopes, the article adds "Rittenberg mentions Skip Holtz, who has been very successful at Louisiana Tech, but is more of a retread than the other two names after an unsuccessful run at USF years ago."
Could this really happen and we are free from the dead weight we currently have??? I truly wonder what the chances are.

Re: Holtz Still in the Running for KU job?????
Someone on the other thread discussing this topic suggested Tech fans send money to Kansas asking them to hire Skip.
If we are to assume Skip will only leave if he is hired by a Power 5 school this is quite possibly the only real shot he will ever get, if this is indeed an opportunity. There is absolutely no reason for Kansas to think he could propel Kansas to the top echelon of the Big 12. Throughout his time at Tech he has proven he can beat up on the bottom feeders of college football, that is his cap! And thank goodness our conference is loaded with bottomfeeders, otherwise he would have a losing record here. His offense would be a joke in the Big 12, may never score enough to even win a single game. How is he going to produce a Big 12 worthy QB?
I do have hope that this will be the job for Skip. How many Power 5 schools continuously screw up football decisions like Kansas? Not many, what would one more horrible decision really cost them?

Re: Holtz Still in the Running for KU job?????
KU hasn't had a winning season since 2008. Wins each year since then: 5, 3, 2, 1, 3, 3, 0, 2, 1, 3, 3, 0. That's 26 wins in 141 games, or a whopping .184 winning percentage.
That's depressing. I hope we never go there!

Re: Holtz Still in the Running for KU job?????
Remember also we have to choose between Skip staying and whoever Wood picks.

Maybe he would have picked a guy who would have hired a real offensive coordinator. Maybe that new coach would win a conference championship in the worst conference in college football. Think of the possibilities.

Re: Holtz Still in the Running for KU job?????
At this point, I would settle for a coach that allows his coordinators and position coaches to coach.

Skip couldn’t even beat the bottom feeder Kansas

Just saw on FB that Elko (from Texas A&M) has decided to stay there and not go to KU.

What did Kansas offer him the job?
-
Re: Holtz Still in the Running for KU job?????
The post seemed to imply that there had been serious discussions with Elko but in the end, he decided to stay at TAMU. Skippy still in the running.

Lance Leipold from Buffalo to be named head coach at Kansas.

Re: Holtz Still in the Running for KU job?????
Skip never really in the running. The good news is our former A.D. is gone and would have given him a 10 year extension by now.

I agree. Why would ANYONE hire a coach who finished last year 5-5?
That said, Skip has been around a long time. He knows a lot of other coaches and administrators. Don't think for one minute that he doesn't know somebody at Kansas, and he probably asked them to mention his name as a contender for the KU job, even though he really wasn't one. Skip knows it helps his marketability and sends a positive message to LA Tech fans to see his name mentioned for a P5 job.

Re: Holtz Still in the Running for KU job?????
For all of you that still had fears that Skip would be hired away from Ruston, I think you can go ahead and put those fears to rest. He got turned down by the worst P5 school in the nation. I think it’s safe to say that he’s ours for better or worse.

You would think “big” schools would learn. Moderate success at Tech doesn’t translate to great success at a “big” school just because they have more money to throw at a program. Moderate success here should be an indicator to others that they don’t want our coaches because a 5th grader could coach to a winning record against our competition.

Yep...of course, UT was a big mess before Dooley. Dooley did have something Holtz doesn’t....a short record.
If Skip is ever going to get hired, he needs to win some championships and have a regular (every other year or so) spot in the top 25.

Re: Holtz Still in the Running for KU job?????
Even though we hear our local talking heads state time and time again that at schools like Tech conference championships don't matter, it's just qualifying for bowls and winning bowls that matter -
I don't buy into that -
I firmly believe that HCSH's failure to win conference championships with rosters that have produced the most NFL draft picks in CUSA during his tenure here has kept him from getting a "real offer" to move on

I think Tech and Ohio are the two G5 programs currently stuck in "always a bridesmaid" mode. Consistently "good-ish" probably isn't getting you a plum P5 job. I think it could get you there if the P5 school was coming through some turmoil and was just craving any sort of steady hand (to level things out and take the lumps and probably set the stage for the next "big name" hire). Like, the geography didn't match up but a year ago you could have seen Holtz or Solich as a good fit for the Arizona job. Or Louisville. So that kind of opening is where we could lose him even without the break-through, conference title (at least) type year.
You might have thought Kansas would fall in that category. They weren't going to win for years no matter who they hired. Thus the interest.

At least Solich beat Kansas (2016 and 2017)

IMHO time to put this one to bed :argue:.

Meanwhile, Southwestern is #16 in one preseason poll. Where is Tech?

They're detrimental to our program. And unfortunately, are also the ones with the money and power.

Agreed... and if we have a VP.AD that is worth his salt, lack of championships will mean something as well.
