Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
I'm curious how the news this week will really affect your support of Tech Athletics. We all know the embarrassing low number of LTAC members. Season ticket sales are not much better. What will you do different? Your votes are private so have at it.
-
Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
Season tickets are not in my cards at this time but I'll certainly be taking my kids to a game or two next year
Particularly if Tech commits to making that a lot easier than it is now (financially and logistically).
-
Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
It depends on who is hired and what changes are made to the staff etc. The product has to be worth the money period.
-
Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
I’ll keep my tickets and donation. I would have canceled them for next year. If things look promising maybe more, but I’ll have to forget this season and see real change first.
-
Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
We already cut back. We’ll stay where we are for now.
-
Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
I had already told my wife we were not renewing our 6 DAC seats and would have to survive going forward in our EE chairbacks which we usually give away. In light of recent developments we will keep our DAC seats. I had also planned to drop my LTAC donor level to just enough to keep our chairbacks and parking passes but in support of the recent move by the administration we will stand pat on our giving.
-
Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
Mine will probably increase. The canning of Holtz demonstrates a level seriousness from our admin and I feel like now is a fairly crucial time in the life of our athletic department.
-
Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
I'm taking a wait and see stance. This is a positive move for Wood/Guice. But I want to see what their vision is with the new hire. If they come in with a retread coach I won't be impressed. If they reach out and bring in what we all feel is an up and comer, then I could get excited...again...finally...

This.. I too have stopped giving and I haven't been to a Tech football game in 2 years. Depending upon what happens with changes will determine if I go back to giving to LTAC.
-
Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
For right now, I'm a wait and see. I'll probably keep my four EE seats but lower my LTAC but still retain my Red Parking Pass.

Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
I wonder how many people are LOWERING their commitment because of the Holtz removal…

Doubt this number is large. I can't even anyone that has a brain cell not seeing the need for the dismissal.

Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
Tim Brando seemed to insinuate the move was forced by boosters which would seem to argue that giving Will either go up or would have gone down without the move.
-
Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
Or, people will maintain current giving rather than decreasing. I think that is most likely.
Edit: which means our athletic director needs to find more supporters. Should have been for the last 30 years.

Tim Brando has no inside connections. Those who say what Brando is saying also think we should have kept Skip around indefinitely, they ignore this was partly Skips decision and they enjoy Tech losing

I thought it was made clear this was not something Skip was considering until he was told about it.

who made that clear? Think Skip was all in on the job? Even he couldn’t say he was.

It appears Skip would disagree with you and wanted to make it clear he did not make this decision. Of course he forgot to mention in this video how bad his most recent record was.

So, Skippy says he was terminated. This wasn't some mutual agreement, blah, blah, blah...
Well then, my opinion of Guice & Wood just went up one notch. Now, we'll see what they do with a replacement.

… got to say “compete” one last time though

Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
Lets just cut to the chase, if you can't win more than three games in this conference, you deserve to be fired. Especially if you're in year 9. It wasn't a talent issue, because if it was you couldn't have played Moo State, NC State and SMU down to the wire. That's a coaching issue , period, and one that needed to be remedied. Thankfully the administration did what was necessary to begin to bring this program back to where it needs to be.

There are still those in the media that think we should have kept Bicknell too.
I think Roy Lang was the biggest one who was angry we fired Bicknell.

Agreed!

Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
As I understand it, Tech has one of the lowest student athletic fees in the FBS. With that said I think Tech should put a $100 athletic fee per student per quarter. Then you will generate roughly 4 million a year. I think we can attract a really good HC at 4M per year!

And reward attendance by awarding students who go to the games with points towards their grades.

There used to be rewards for students who attended games. They had cards that were stamped at every athletic event. I'm sure the rewards weren't associated with grades, but there were perks for showing up.

Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
When I proctored exams for my boss in the business school, all those students said they would happily attend every home game and stay til the final horn if they could be entered in a drawing to have $1000 of their tuition waived for the quarter. Have 5 different winners for FB, MBB, WBB, Baseball, and Softball. Throw in soccer if you want. Students can only win 1 time in an academic year.

This KISS method was proven to work many years ago and involved a used car. Our leaders scrapped it And pretend it never happened.

Have more prizes, don’t limit eligibility for prizes. Just for the top prize. If someone already got the $1000, give them second prize and draw for $1000 again.

This was actually discussed also, a different giveaway for each home game. Then have all the students names thrown in a hopper (as many games as you attend is how many times your name is put in the hopper) for a grand prize at the end of the season. You could do multiple $40-$50 prizes per game. With good attendance, you cancel out any giveaways in 1st quarter concessions anyway.

Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
We really need to do a study to see how other G5 schools approach ticket pricing, promotions and building attendance. Our approach seems to have been “stick it to the loyal fans” (and) don’t try things that might grow the fan base.
-
Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
What is the general consensus of ticket prices? Do you feel we were overcharged for the product that Dooley or Dykes put on the field? I know we were overcharged for the Holtz product. I don’t see ticket prices or promos getting any cheaper. However, I do expect the value for our dollar to go up if we can restore our game day experience and product to pre Holtz standards.

Our prices went up because Tommy boy looked around, saw who was currently paying, and charged them more. It's that simple.
We are back to the fan gathering stage and have lost literally hundreds of long time supporters who had been giving for many, many years. I'm one of them. I know many more.

Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
I have been unhappy with Skip Holtz since he lost to Tulane and Northwestern on our sacred home turf then add SMU - all games that solidified and showcased the fact that Skip possessed almost no math skills. I was finally done with him when I learned that our punter, Gerald Shouse, would have been CUSA punter of the year his senior year had Skip Holtz not been so stupid as to fail to keep track of the stats and allow Louisiana Tech to miss out on that award because our punter was 1/2 punt short of the minimum to be considered - that was the season Skip kept toying with the rugby style punts from a different punter.
So to sum up: even though I was saddened each morning for about eight years waking up and realizing it was no nightmare, Skip Holtz really was still Tech’s HC, we continued our LTAC donation and DAC tickets and even kept 10 chairbacks - I will always support Tech and I believe in Dr Les Guice.
PS: I was hoping for Tim Rattay.

Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
Unfortunately all I can say is that I’ll attend on a game by game basis until Tech returns to some degree of reasonable pricing. Tech was all out stupid and arrogant to price their seasons tickets and parking pass prices out of the range of the most populous fans. It looks all the worse for the future as the costs of everything loom to go higher and higher. Leisure money may be in short supply for at least 2022. Maybe AD Wood will see this approach to having a fan base as something else he needs to change.

No argument there, but if someone can’t figure out how to ensure that at least 75% of the student population attends games, it seems to me that would indicate a SEVERE problem. The team literally belongs to those students (imho).
-
Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
The students will vote in favor of the much needed fee. Academia does not want it and will not allow the vote. Typical leftist turds…

At this point, 33% of the student population at football, 5% at basketball, baseball, and softball should be celebrated. We are well short of that.
-
Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
I see that 50% are NOT increasing their giving, which--I suppose--is not the result you were looking for. But in fairness to people here, a lot of them are on the hook for $4K to the gofundme now that Holtz is fired.

What is a typical percentage of student body attendance? The AD should know that, I guess.

Academia might be leftist turds but think about it from the perspective of a tax being levied to support an institution you don't care about and believe doesn't benefit you in any way.

Yeah, idk how you can be so certain that would pass with the students.

Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
Got an email today requesting one time $100 LTAC contribution with Cumbie poster in return. I think I’m going to give some extra tonight.
-
Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
Made a contribution. Would challenge everyone to do the same.
Went on Facebook to share the LTAC Facebook post. Interestingly, it appears LTAC’s social media presence is essentially non-existent. The post about new Cumbie contributions may have had one like and I was the first to share it. Surprising and concerning.

Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
The lack of support isn't just about Holtz and the crappy brand of football he's been subjecting us to. It's about higher education in general, and its socialist teachings. I, like many other people, have stopped financially supporting higher education in any way, and I won't reengage until the socialists that are running all of higher education are overthrown.

Re: Will you increase financial support in light of coaching change?
brtansplant--I completely get what your saying and why---the serious leftists running our Universities is out of control, even at little ole Louisiana Tech. The very best--and I do mean the best--fundraiser at our University is a lady that raises money for the School of Business...since she came some 5 years ago, donations have soared through the roof--her "hustling" out there has been dynamic. Because I graduated from the school of business, and am also fairly good friends with the Business department head guy, do I "throw the baby our with the bathwater?" I have given this lots of thought...and have decided, no, I won't....I will continue to support them..., now, if this had been the "liberal arts" department", yes, I'd be done..there are a handful of bad apples in some of the departments voicing radical and leftist thoughts outside of and off of "company time"...it's sickening, but when you have tenure, and its not on school time, not much you can do...BUT...I hear ya, and I keep a close eye on things, as well as I am at a lot of events...it's a dynamic that changes all the time...our AD acting quickly on this football think(right or wrong) has likely saved some academic giving too, as sorry athletics does in fact have a direct impact on academic giving also...just my two cents..

Lots of drivers behind the "Not increasing" responses, I'm sure.
