Maye if had shown this much passion as the Tech Head Coach, he would still be the Tech Head Coach.

Okay...Wood just earned a measure of "well done" from me. He's right, one season doesn't determine a whole career, but the trajectory is clearly trending down. Cut bait and get out now, rather than later when the hole would be even deeper.
Now...the replacement. This is an important hire for Tech Football.
For some reason 2020 was tougher on Holtz and Tech than others who managed to win… No the bowling in 2020 was not a plus
I always thought Skip was a nice guy, but was a coach to just keep the status quo. I guess he is just working to save his career with this statement, but I applaud Dr. Wood now more than ever and I was FOR letting him go. Maybe this tweet will let other coaches know that they need to do more, so it may help narrow down our candidates.
Holtz’s comment of ‘Wow’ tells you all you need to know. He essentially said he thought he was too good to have his recent substandard years questioned. I fully expect that if he was relieved of his job, he would’ve coasted as long as possible creating one excuse after another while all the while repeating the fading bowl run record.
Thank you AD Wood for seeing the truth of Holtz’s low standards and getting him out of the way. It’s a job well started now just add to it. There’s a lot of work to be done to get things fixed over McClelland’s screw ups.
Awe Coach....where's that "COMPETE" label now? LOL! Get out there and go compete.....for another job. You lazy bastard.
BTW, why do some people have trouble understanding that losing 70% of your last 20 football games as a coach puts your job at risk, NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE. Dumbasses.

This is the BEST decision LA Tech has made in the last 5 years. Holtz HAD TO GO! And you are correct; if Tech didn't fire him now, we'd have ridden Holtz's "compete" train all the way to 0-12, and severely damaged the program long term. At least this way, LA Tech has a chance to bounce back to respectability in a year or two.
Not only that, but LA Tech wasn't even competitive against TCU (lost 52-10), BYU (lost 45-14), Marshall (lost 35-17, at home) and even Georgia Southern (lost 38-3, in bowl game) in the 2020 season. LA Tech was outscored 170-44 in those 4 losses. That's pretty damn pathetic folks. I don't know why Holtz doesn't just wear a skirt.
And that asshole (Holtz) wonders why he got fired? Seriously? If so, he's truly mental, and should be fired on that basis alone.
‘Wow”? As if it was a surprise? People generally know when they are in jeopardy of being fired. ESPECIALLY HCs. If he genuinely did not see this coming, it confirms even more so that he doesn’t read people well and his general “situational awareness” is poor.
Frankly, I am pleasantly surprised Tech did this. I wish Skip well and actually hope he ends up at a future Tech opponent.
Does this news clip of USF’s firing seem familiar? Even the names of the assistants were the same that he brought here. https://youtu.be/I3vfFk_u_fw
No one would have even known about it though. He was working to make it where no one even cared anymore. It's a great job if you can get it - $800k with no expectations- or so he thought. Thankfully we will not have to hear another excuse or "compete' comment from his at TECH again. I saw where he says he isn't finished coaching- I'm guessing he is finished.
Well our lame duck Dr Reneau and not likely our lame duck AD negotiated the original contract with Holtz. I distinctly remember Dr. Reneau setting Dr. Guice up for failure in his usual lame ass introduction speech. This was ALL ABOUT shifting funds. Holtz was the man who could make it happen and allowed us to keep White for a little longer.
Currently all our contracts have been put together by the boy wonder whether they deserved renewals or not.
This video is stunning. I don’t recall ever seeing it before. Now that I do see it, I’m absolutely amazed that Holtz won anything. I’ve talked repeatedly about how underachieving our teams have been under Holtz. As it turns out now, I know how really good our players have been to offset how really terrible Holtz is at his core.

I'm happy I get to retire this, though I was likely the only one laughing at it still (to keep from crying).
I think for many of us LA Tech Football fans the seeds of discontent with Holtz started well before the last 20 games.
2014 (2nd year) Disappointing late season loss at ODU followed by losing at Marshall in the C-USA championship game. Oh yeah, some players flunked out and couldn't play. Bad luck for Holtz right? Add in a loss to FCS NSU.
2015 Got B-slapped last game at home by S Miss when we had been on a roll
2016 Probably the peak for Holtz's tenure, but suffered another late season loss to S Miss that cost us hosting the C-USA Championship against WKU. Lost the conference championship at WKU. We did finish with a great bowl win vs Navy.
2017 Three 1-pt losses to S Car, UAB, and UNT. Also, S Miss once again beats us in Ruston. More bad luck for Holtz, right?
2018 More late season disappointment with losses to S Miss and WKU.
2019 The 12-1 season. Oh, wait, no it was 10-3. More bad luck for Holtz not having a backup QB, right? There were probably high schools in Louisiana that had tougher schedules than we did that year. Winning only 10 was a bit of a disappointment.
And then the already mentioned 6-14 record for 2020 and 2021 and all of those late game failures.
It is baffling that Holtz beat S Miss in 2013.
I agree with several posts in this thread. The MOST telling reason why Skip needed to be replaced was Skip's reaction to being replaced. His default is to defend himself from criticism instead of challenging himself with criticism.
I'm so happy we moved on from Holtz and TMac. Having both here really hurt us in the long run.
Holtz - did enough to look good for TMac (no championship, but good enough for a low tier bowl)
TMac - wanted that one big game a year so he can have a nice photo of a packed house for Guice (show that he's doing well as AD), ie Northwestern, Southern, Miss State. He gives zero F's about overall attendance at any of our venues.
Agreed. Skip doesn't understand that when you point your finger elsewhere, there are three pointing back at you. I'm not convinced that he didn't seal his coffin for being a head coach at an upper tier school with the way he handled this. Just accept that in the HC world, this stuff happens.
Bury this thread! Skip is gone and I hope to never hear anything again about him until of course Tech52 and thewyldman bloviate about how great of a mentor, leader, and coach he was!
