Kind of interesting just playing another pickup game. No way it happens twice in two years, huh?

And on the 22nd we have powerhouse Crowley’s Ridge College coming in.

Re: Bulldogs Add Home Game for Tuesday
UAB beat Millsap 103-29...and the game was not that close. :icon_roll:
We are 7-2. Bama edged #14 Houston and NC State lost in OT to #1 ranked Purdue. We will be 8-2 heading into our next quality opponent, LSU (Santa Clara is "good" at 7-4 and some good wins). We were never in the Bama game, and then played fairly well at NC State.
LSU is very good. They are "long" with athletic, talented players who can all make plays. They are the #1 defensive team in the nation too. This is a huge test. Without Crawford we lack a "big" with some length who could have battled in the paint with all those tiggers, who are built like him. Someone else with size will have to step up, Hunter, I guess. To have a chance our guards are gonna have to play "out of their minds!" Like, we need to hit something like 20/25 three-point shots, shoot 100% from the FT line, protect the ball (LSU forces a ton of turnovers), and help Lofton by battling for rebounds and every loose ball.
LSU lacks overall team discipline. They play more like an all-star team or a bunch of very talented guys who got together one Saturday at the local Y and play a pick-up game. This will be a test/opportunity for Konkol to actually out-coach someone and make a difference.

lsu gets in the heads of all our teams. For once (in recent times), I would LOVE to beat them and ESPECIALLY in Bossier!!!!!

Re: Bulldogs Add Home Game for Tuesday
Well, LSU-BR hasn’t exactly been playing all top tier teams. Nicholls was an exhibition game, but they have played ULM, Texas State, Liberty, McNeese, and Belmont. They are playing Northwestern State tomorrow night and will be playing Lipscomb after they play us. They eked out a win over Penn State in OT.
If Tech is hitting on all cylinders and LSU comes in overconfident and plays undisciplined – well, you just never know.

I like your enthusiasm bur we'll see. Santa Clara is by far the best of our wins at #92 KenPom.
lsu is #13. Alabama, who handed us a 30 point loss, is #11.

Good grief. This has GOT to be mental.
ULM lost to LSU 101-39? SERIOUSLY? That's preposterous. And no one else has stayed within 14 points of LSU this season except Penn St, which was an OT win for the Tigers?
Ahem.....this kind of stuff exasperates me. How 'bout just growing a spine and playing good basketball. They are not the Harlem Globetrotters to everyone else's Washington Generals.

Well yanno, upsets do happen. Tech blew out SWAC Texas Southern by 27 points. Less than a week later, Texas Southern beat #20 SEC Florida by 15 points. Being of sound mind, I stand by what I said "If Tech is hitting on all cylinders and LSU comes in overconfident and plays undisciplined – well, you just never know." Other than Penn State, LSU has not been seriously challenged this year because they haven't played any of the top tier teams yet. LSU may blow Tech away, but Tech will be one of the better teams they have played so far this season. If Tech plays like they did against Alabama, they will get clobbered by LSU.

I agree... This game not only has to be played perfectly and coached perfectly, but this one is a LOT about mindset. We can win this one, but HAVE to be ready and not play like we did at Alabama (we looked like we were going there to just have a game - not to knock them off).
-
Re: Bulldogs Add Home Game for Tuesday
Yeah, the Dawgs can beat LSU.
The challenge is the matchups. Like Bama, LSU has all those "long" guys, 6'6" to 6'10" who can handle the ball and create their own shots. They are also very active on defense using their length to create turnovers.
Our guards are gonna have to play their best games, ever. Lofton will be on an island battling all those bigs, coming at him in waves, and I expect Junior to hold his own. But his 18-20 pts he will score won't nearly be enough to even keep us in this. And Heaven helps us if he gets into foul trouble like he did vs. the Zebras, er, Cajuns. Crawford could have been a big help with his 6'7" frame...LSU starts a couple of 6'2" guards, but it's those others coming off the bench, the taller guys, with fresh legs and energy that have taken LSU on spurts, like 14-0 runs and how they rallied from 15 pts down to cruising past Georgia Tech by double-digits.
All the X's and O's analysis aside, LSU can be beat. They haven't shown much in the way of discipline and playing as a team. It's more like 40 minutes of chaos where their athleticism has allowed them to beat down the opposition. I am more concerned about how we play. I want to see solid, good team basketball played, our guys making good decisions...Konkol actually coaching! which I saw flashes of in the ULL game. He used a couple of timeouts and made a lineup change that helped turn the momentum of that game. Well done, coach. Our guards, namely Williams and Archibald, have got to keep their heads, have short memories. The long LSU team will make plays on defense. Our guards can't get frustrated and then start forcing the game. If there is a turnover, learn from it, but then "forget it" as in don't let it make you hesitate next time. Just like a shooter who has missed several shots in a row...the next one is going in!
Go Dawgs!

Konkol coached a great game against ULL. Going right at Brown early in the second half was the turning point. He got into foul trouble and they had nothing without him.

I wasn't going to say it, but you are exactly right. Just like Tech can beat LSU if everything goes just right, Tech can lose to LSUS if everything goes wrong for Tech. LSUS has been putting up a gobs of points. It will be interesting to see how many they can score tonight.

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. LSU-Shreveport
Dawgs won, 84-70. Not great, but I don't even see that Kenneth Lofton played tonight. He's not on tonight's roster. I think a lot of "Bench" players played tonight for Tech, as it should be. Unfortunately, the minutes played by each player aren't posted yet so it's difficult to tell. But Tech had 9 guys suited up tonight, and all nine scored.

Re: Bulldogs Add Home Game for Tuesday
Tech plays like it did tonight on Saturday and it will get very ugly.
Only positive (it you can take it that way) is that Konkol has plenty of bad to show in the film room to work on.
84-70 final, and Tech didn't deserve to win by more than that.

Re: Bulldogs Add Home Game for Tuesday
I just worry about our post bench. Without Crawford and if Junior gets in trouble, we are in trouble. I think we are well on our way with a very young team, but I can only hope we have enough cogs in the wheel.

Re: Bulldogs Add Home Game for Tuesday
Bradford needs to take Christon's spot as a starter. It's not just from this one game. Christon just doesn't bring enough contribution to be a starter.

I agree. If we play without KLJr, we'll get stomped.

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. LSU-Shreveport
A good place to get the box score is on the schedule page on Tech's website. https://latechsports.com/sports/mens...boxscore/10713
Lofton didn't play (was on the bench in sweatpants) due to coach's decision. However, he did block one of Dr. Guice's shots earlier in the day. https://twitter.com/itzjunior34/stat...70645084938250 Ben Ponder (the walk-on) appeared to be available, but he was never put in the game.

We shall see Saturday exactly where this team is. That is not a glorified scrimmage nor is there any excuse for Tech not to show up and put it all out there. And not because "this is LSU" or some such mess, but because we are playing a 10-0 Top 20 ranked opponent on a neutral court, the #1 defensive team (statistically anyway) in the nation. We are 0-2 vs. quality opposition (bit of a push to classify Santa Clara as such, although that was a good road win) and games like this separate the wheat from the chaff. Much like Holtz, Konkol has failed miserably getting quality wins of this magnitude.
Put up or shut up.

I agree -
I think we will see a similar effort to NC State - but will it be enough to win?
This is basically LSU's first trip out of BR, LSU's defense scares me - they are long, athletic and have a deep bench
That said - their offense will probably erupt and score 90+ and shatter the over
I would say a quality win is ANY WIN over any opponent that has a NET of 100 or less at year end - regardless of league - that's basically the top 30% of college basketball teams - last year he had 5 of those wins classified as quadrant 1 or 2 wins

Re: Bulldogs Add Home Game for Tuesday
We all know Crawford would have been a big help with his length. Alas...
I want to see a solid gameplan/scheme designed to maximize our strengths and attack their weaknesses. I also want to see our guys playing with determined confidence. Why not? The pressure is on them, no one expects Tech to even stay in the game. No reason for our guys to play scared. Go have fun and give it your best shot. In all sports, big surprises/huge upsets spring from situations when the underdog plays hard, but loose, and the big favorite playing "not to lose" tightens up.
The Dawgs can win this game. Yeah, we have to play our best, bring our A++ game...and bomb 20/20 from the arc!!! Well, okay, 17/20.

Re: Bulldogs Add Home Game for Tuesday
we don’t have to shoot 100 percent from the 3 point line.
Protect the ball
Defend the line; none of that fallback to the lane on a break and watch them shot set shots from the 3 like at Bama
shoot 40 percent ourselves from the 3
we have a shot
-
Re: Bulldogs Add Home Game for Tuesday
Well our standard procedure these days vs ranked opponent seems to be to start slow and sloppy (turnovers and cheap fouls) while our opponent take a double digit lead and has a player go for 20+ pts in the first half. Said player couldn’t miss even if he was blindfolded while kicking the ball at the rim.
Last year Junior was one of our few or only bright spots against LSU.

And they will start out doubling Jr. If the others don't step up, it will be a long night, unless THEY get in foul trouble doubling him.

That is a possibility, but lsu is pretty arrogant. They won't want anyone scoring 40 on them. What you are saying IS the best game plan for them, though. Our guards have to get hot from the outside to keep it from happening.

May not have to shoot 100% beyond the arc, but starting 0 for 13 again would probably put Tech down by 25 from that alone.

Re: Bulldogs Add Home Game for Tuesday
It often seems like somebody on the opposing team who normally shoots about 33% from 3 ends up hitting like 10 3's on 10/13 shooting when we play these types of games.

True. But we also seem to be slow in figuring out we have to guard the hot guy, no matter where he is, in some of these games.

Exactly right. I don't think we really had a chance with Alabama because every who shot it was hitting. But with Santa Clara, we had to stop one guy who was abnormally hot, and we didn't do it until late in the game.

I agree.

Re: Bulldogs Add Home Game for Tuesday
The bigger problem with Alabama to me was that they were by and larger wholly uncontested 3’s.
On the break we raced back…. all the way to the paint. their shooters stopped at the line…. repeatedly, for standstill 3’s with our “defenders” gawking from 10 or more feet away.

If that's LSU's strategy, I wouldn't be surprised to see Junior go off for 40 pts. LSU might not want to take that route.
If I'm LSU, I just do anything I can (double-team, etc...) to hold Junior to a maximum of 17-22 points, and I get out of the building with a 20-pt Tiger win. But if I let him score 35 to 40 pts, it could make things very dicey for an LSU team that has a lot to lose in terms of perception in the state.

Re: Bulldogs Add Home Game for Tuesday
I think we need to see alot of Bradford in place of Christon. His athleticism makes him a better matchup against their forwards.
