5 game weeks are tough. We had one a couple of weeks ago.

Re: LA Tech Hosts In-State Foe UL-Lafayette For Two Midweek Contests
Because of the pandemic and then the rebuild delaying the opening of our stadium by a few weeks, this is the first time we've hosted the Cajuns since 2019.
Which means this is the first time in close to 30 years we've hosted the Cajuns without the late Tony Robichaux as its leader.
Great baseball coach but even better leader.

Re: LA Tech Hosts In-State Foe UL-Lafayette For Two Midweek Contests
Rivalry and name misidentification aside, you have to respect what Robichaux built at ULL.

A group of fans had a discussion about this at Tech's series with FIU. It was more about the off the field stuff. Devout Christian who led a Christian life.

Re: LA Tech Hosts In-State Foe UL-Lafayette For Two Midweek Contests
Second, and last chance, to make hay this season. Blew it by going 1-3 vs. quality opposition, and now have to pretty much run the table, well, really, the rest of the way. But this homestand is a good place to start. Failure now removes the possibility of this being a special year.

Re: LA Tech Hosts In-State Foe UL-Lafayette For Two Midweek Contests
Top 4 remains the same (shouldn't have). Myers at DH in the 5 hole. Corona down to 6. Brantley at 1B batting 7th. Martinez starting.

Re: LA Tech Hosts In-State Foe UL-Lafayette For Two Midweek Contests
Odds are Brantley won’t make it through the game without being pulled for either not playing his position well or a lack of hitting anything. I’m surprised Burroughs didn’t shuffle the top 4 batting order in some kind of way just to reset the guys’ brains. We all know they’re capable. They just need to be ball players.

Re: LA Tech Hosts In-State Foe UL-Lafayette For Two Midweek Contests
Martinez opens with a strikeout.

Most Tech batters shouldn't see one. Should be changeups with the fastball as the exception. Until Tech learns how to hit instead of just bat, that should be the gameplan.

Our inning-enders Corona & Brantley have struck out once each to leave 5 runners on base... it’s totally predictable.

Re: LA Tech Hosts In-State Foe UL-Lafayette For Two Midweek Contests
McLeods Homer was huge to tie the game after Laffy had taken the lead. His spark may have made the difference in Tech coming back. Wow, we sure have some guys who are not contributing in major ways at the plate right now. I think Corona, Brantley and Matulia combined to go 0-4 while leaving 11 runners left on base. Something has to be done...

I still think Tech's batting order needs to be arranged more like this:
Young, McLeod, McConnell, Netterville, Myers (DH), Matulia, Corona, Wallace (1B), Elliott
And Hasler needs to be getting more time behind the plate.
Here is how last night's starting batting order has done going back to the DBU game:
Young 3-20, McConnell 4-20, Netterville 5-20, Matulia 3-18, Myers 3-13, Corona 4-19, Brantley 0-6, McLeod 4-13, Elliott 3-13.
Add to that Wallace is 0-11 since DBU, and Burchfield is 0-6 since DBU.
Team batting average in the last 5 games is .182 (29-159). 56 strikeouts and 21 walks (11 of those last night vs ULL) and just 4 HBPs in those last 5 games.
Speaking of strikeouts, Tech had had 8 or more batters strike out in all of the last 13 games. 145 strikeouts in those 13 games (11.2 per game) after having just 106 in the first 16 games (6.6 per game).
-
Re: LA Tech Hosts In-State Foe UL-Lafayette For Two Midweek Contests
That is atrocious. Helen Keller would have better anticipation at the plate than our guys.
-
Re: LA Tech Hosts In-State Foe UL-Lafayette For Two Midweek Contests
Burroughs has got some serious decision making to do. So far I wouldn’t say he’s done anything batting wise other than rotate his DHs and to the largest degree his guessing game hasn’t worked. The defense is solid (knock on wood) and he’s shuffled his pitchers some so now he has to address his non-hitting problems. Maybe there’s a good reason why Hassler isn’t playing, but if he isn’t hurt he needs to be in some games in some capacity. Corona manages to make a few plays here and there but he’s still a somewhat lazy catcher at times and for a catcher he seems to have no clue what to expect from the other pitcher. You’d think being a catcher he’d know better what pitches are coming based on him swinging at outside curve balls and yet he keeps swinging at them. As long as he does that he’s going to keep getting them.
-
Re: LA Tech Hosts In-State Foe UL-Lafayette For Two Midweek Contests
Our guys are clueless how to hit. They swing for the fence every time, big swooping swings even on two strikes when you should shorten your swing to protect the plate and try to put wood, er, aluminum on the ball. Opposing teams have seen enough and know how to pitch to us. Recently haven't seen too much GOOD HITTING meaning defending the plate and either working a walk or getting good aluminum on the ball. Mostly our guys can hit a mistake made by the pitcher but are unable to win the battle and actually drive a good pitch somewhere. Just not happening right now.
Have to take outside pitches the other way, can't try to pull everything. I was never a great hitter (was VERY good with the glove and had a good arm) and usually I batted in the lower 1/3 7th-9th, so I am not trying to say I could do it better. But! at least I knew what to try to do, and that was because of someone like Mr. Charlie who was my coach from 9yrs old thru Pony League, and one year in the Dixie Seniors. He taught us basic fundamentals.
-
Re: LA Tech Hosts In-State Foe UL-Lafayette For Two Midweek Contests
I’d be swinging for the fences too if I played on a field that was 20-30 feet shorter to all fields than anywhere else in the country.
-
Re: LA Tech Hosts In-State Foe UL-Lafayette For Two Midweek Contests
Harland starting with big lineup changes.
McLeod up to the 2 hole that I like. Hasler catching. The rest?
Elliott was a late scratch, so that makes a little more sense.

Except it's not. 370 in left center is longer than many places. It's shorter in straight right (not down the line) around to just left of center and straight down the left field line. But then factor in the normal prevailing wind blowing in from center or right center.
Just hit line drives to the gaps and stop uppercutting. The problem lately is that Tech batters have been swinging over the top of pitches with the uppercut and not even hitting ground balls.
The wind blowing out tonight probably won't help with trying to make line drive contact.

What is it with Burroughs and Brantley 🤮? I see nothing to why he gets so many chances.
-

Bunt single puts runners at first and second.

Netterville bloops a single to left.
Pickoff throwing error moves the runners to second and third.

Burchfield doubles down the left field line. Tech 2-0.
Mound visit.
Matulia sacrifice fly to left center scores McConnell. Tech 3-0.
Hasler singles to center to score Burchfield and he takes second on the throw. Tech 4-0.
Brantley strikes out. Contrary to what Burroughs believes, Brantley has earned the 11 hole in the lineup right now.
Tech 4-0 after 1.

Re: LA Tech Hosts In-State Foe UL-Lafayette For Two Midweek Contests
We look foolish! It’s a toss up who deflated Tech more Whorff, Burroughs or the horrible ump. Regardless, we took a dump on our own field tonight. There’s no way that Laffy earned this game.

Crigger in to pitch the 9th.
Strikeout, but a wild pitch allows the batter to reach first. Discussion on another possible foul tip. Need Snicko like they use in cricket. Wild pitch call stands.
Fouts visit. Crigger overthrowing.
Strikeout. 1 out.
Strikeout. Runner steals second. 2 out.
Wild pitch moves the runner to third.
Grounder to Young.
ULL 8-6 after 8 1/2.

Stats page has been down for the last two innings. Yeah, I'll keep saying it LB is the baseball equivalent of John Brady.

Never seen or heard of a strike being a "wild pitch". Our scorer(s) are horrible. They almost never charge a passed ball.

Wild pitches happen on strike 3 all the time in baseball. That was the correct scoring decision.

Myers pinch hits for Easterling.
Myers flies to right.
Young singles to right.
McLeod line drive single over the mound.
Netterville flies to center.
McConnell grounds to second.
ULL 8-6 final.

Our nonexistent grounds crew will have its work cut out to get the field ready for Friday.

I haven’t seen Burroughs coach us to a win yet but I’ve seen him coach us to several losses. I swear the guy has no feel for the game whatsoever.

There were 4 hits before that error. Whorff has done nothing all year to justify staying with him after the 2nd hit.
Whorff has half of our losses. He should’ve been gone.
Someone needs to tell Burroughs he’s not running a rehabilitation center. His job is to win games.

RPI down to 34 and will continue to drop over the weekend even with a sweep
