Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
Did clb just accuse odu of having juiced bats?
-
Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
I commented on that very thing elsewhere. I saw the balls leave their bats here last year and I can tell you something is not on the up and up

yep! Steele couldn’t get one out, but their skinny ass 185 lb guys were killing the ball. Judy says, Nothing to see here.

If those bats aren't juiced we need to get some, LOL.
But it shows how good Tech pitching actually was to limit ODU to just 14 runs in 3 games. In other C-USA series ODU has scored 34, 25, 35, 22, 26, and 29 runs (28.5 average).

Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
Did anyone consider launch angle? I've seen guys 5'11 160lbs hit a softball 400 easy all due to his launch angle and backspin on the ball.

Hit a softball 400'? Wow! I played softball with some killer hitters, guys who could hit it a loooong way, but I doubt they could have cleared a fence 400 feet away. I suppose it's possible, but highly unlikely...maybe with a 50 mph wind blowing out.

Not many hitters get more backspin on a baseball than Netterville.

Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
Need to win these two games this week. Can't afford losses to dregs.

His swing resembles a triangle. Straight down on the ball as to cut it in half then up.
Does the conference compression test the bats before each series? If so the failed bats should get cut open or sent to the manufacturer to see if it's been tampered with.

NCAA requires testing before each game or series. A tamper-proof sticker is placed on bats that pass testing that consists of a visual test, a ring test, and a barrel compression test.
Bats that fail testing are confiscated until after the game or series.

That may be, but I’m sure if someone really wants to cheat they’ll find a way. It’s when good people don’t question something suspicious or look the other way that they get away with it and for the masses of people it’s a lot easier to not ask questions or say anything.

If Tech loses to this 16win ulm team, Fire LB. This ulm team is worse than Nichols state.
-
Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
How about this pitching coach let the pitchers pitch instead of forcing them to pitch the corners. Sometimes a pitcher must pitch for contact.

With that kind of performance, makes one question if a redshirt player could do better. Not saying they could just raises the question

-
Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
And it figures that after all the balls Elliott has crushed for outs, his next hit would be a seeing-eye pop down the line.
For the record that hit snapped an 0-29 and a 1-46. He now just needs to get back somewhere close to the .272 (22-81) he started the season with.
-

Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
Elliott got a more or less excuse me sort of hit, but it still counts. Now I guess he’ll either go on an all out tear or he’ll pick back up on his 1 for whatever crazy number it was. From the reception he got in the dugout after he scored you’d think he’d hit for the cycle, haha.
I really don’t know what to think of this Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Tech team we have. We can play well and beat good teams while we can just as easy play pathetically and lose to lesser opponents. It’s crazy, but we’ve been that way for years now under Burroughs. I sure wish we could find our best stride and stay there and not trip and fall on our face.

Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
As good a hitting team as UTSA is, the Roadrunners get just 4 hits and get blown out at home 12-1 by UTRGV. Crushing RPI loss that dropped UTSA from the mid-40s to 56.

That one hurts our whole conference. We need to keep the momentum that started last Saturday going now - no other choice!

start keeping count when it’s convenient rather than evaluate what sub .200 does to a team over two months

Can't remember any minuses on errors from Elliott since his slump started. And there haven't been any since the last of Elliott's 3 errors was in the game at ULM.
May escape tonight after all. And I count all the time. I never saw anything from Tech on Elliott's 0-29 and 1-46 stetches. And for the record he is 2 for his last 2.
-

sub .200 is a HUGE minus and our HC is totally responsible for not having a replacement for a guy who absolutely can’t hit. Reminder of the damage our SS did to us last year.

I don’t remember Alex being as poor at the plate. I assume their fielding numbers are similar.

Other C-USA games
Middle Tennessee 9 @Georgia State 7 final
@Houston 8 Rice 2 final
Virginia Tech vs Marshall at Charleston, WV, canceled
Tech's RPI has held for now at 37 with the Rice loss factored in, but Tech is 0 points ahead of Penn at 38. Tech started the day at 41.

Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
Crigger is struggling.
I won't say the Dawgs have a low baseball IQ, but I can't say they have a high one either. Reflective of lousy to mediocre coaching.
Oh well, now 32-15 and in contention in the conference. What more can you ask for, eh? :icon_roll:
-
Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
By the hair of our chinny chin chin and I’m not talking Matulia’s chin, Burroughs is 3-3 against NW as Tech’s coach. That’s not near good enough. Maybe before we play these losing record teams Burroughs should quit with the crap about how good they are and just tell our guys we’re head and shoulders better, so go out there and kick their asses. He always talks about playing loose and having fun, but oh by the way these guys are way better than their record. The truth is they’re not we just play down to them that way. I’m tired of it.

Crigger has been overworked because Burroughs doesn't trust anyone else to finish a game. If Burroughs keeps running him out there every game, Tech will start losing some of those. That almost happened tonight.

Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
This is one of those "a win is a win" games. Need to come out strong this weekend!
-
Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
If I counted correctly we finished 13-6 vs. in-state schools. Good baseball is played in Louisiana. So, I wouldn't diss most of the teams, like NSU, they are actually fairly good. And "baseball is baseball" the sport lends itself for so-called "upsets."
We have our own issues.

Meanwhile LSU went 10-3 versus in state competition and we know who they lost to twice, so yeah Louisiana schools can be good but they’re not so good that Tech shouldn’t do better against them.
-
Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
Looking a little further Tulane is 9-3 in state and ULL is 8-4. Something else this tells me is that Tech is playing too many in state schools. How about let’s branch out some and leave our marker throughout Texas more.
-
Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
Yeah, but LSU played 2 games against Southern and one against Grambling when TECH & ULL did not. Hell ULM did not even play Gram or SU. Looks like Tulane played one against Southern.
LSU just padding that record
-
Re: LA Tech Set for Final Two Midweek Contests
So, the top 4 baseball programs in the state, Tech, LSU, Tulane, and ULL are a combined 40-16 vs. in-state competition (yeah, I know some of those are against each other, still...), who the hell is losing all those games? I guess SU, Grambling, ulm...
