Game Day vs. Air Force
...and Texas! (later)
Now is the time for leadership from the coaches and the seniors. Want your season to end? For the seniors, want your career to end? Fight for every opportunity to keep playing.
16 teams went home yesterday, 48 remain to start the day. Another 16 go home this afternoon. Make it to tonight.
Go Dawgs!
-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
The Dawgs need to resume scoring now that our better pitching is somewhat more depleted and we’re under pressure. I think it’s going to take about 8 runs per game to win out in this regional especially against Texas. Go Dawgs, beat Air Force!
-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
Tech should be the home team for both games today should it advance.
Tech and Air Force have both been home and visitor once, but Air Force was home and Tech visitor yesterday.
If Tech plays Texas tonight both teams would have been home twice, but Texas would not have been visitor yet.
-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
No changes to the defensive lineup. Lancaster at DH. Whorff starting.

Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
I don’t get Lancaster over Burchfield. Walter has been making solid contact and even been a bit lucky. DH wise I don’t get why Burroughs doesn’t go with where the more recent consistency has been.

Probably a lefty-righty thing. I assume AFA is starting a righty. But, yeah, I agree Burchfield has been swinging a good bat lately.

Burroughs is obsessed with the extra left-handed batter against right-handed pitching. I agree with you that recent form is more important. Even when Burchfield has been making outs in Austin, there have been several loud outs.
I agree with Whorff against Air Force and saving Gibson for tonight if he is able to go.

Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
Need whorf to not give up the big inning.

-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
Cavernous field. Lots of ground to cover.
-

-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
Throw it in the dirt, but not at the belt!
-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
Whorff is kind of like a tire with a slow leak... he’s always going flat and could blow out and crash the car at any minute. I figure he’s about done for the day.

-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
AFA's #19 has been the best pitcher in the game...so far. We have to figure him out else...well. :shocked2:
-

Please pitch with some attitude and determination. We need a spark of some sort.

Why was McLeod cheating toward 2nd with a right handed batter up?

Well now I have to find something else to watch tonight
-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
As usual. It was fun while it lasted.
-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
Tomkins hasn’t pitched well pretty much the whole second half of the year.

Does our coach know that this is an elimination game?
The first base was open - why didn’t they just walk him at 3-1 count and work on a double play?

At least it's Navy, not Air Force.

Remember everyone Air Force is 31-28 this year. We’re playing a juggernaut.

Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
Malcolm needs to figure out that Lancaster is not pitching. Not yet anyway.
And he also needs to figure out that the DH could come in to pitch and be replaced and still be the DH. This isn't softball.
-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
Yeah… I wonder how long it will take them to figure it out.
-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
Getting outhit 11-6... an exhibition in too many fly ball outs except for Young and Corona thankfully.
-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force

His pitches have no finishing movement like they had earlier in the year when he was most effective.
-

The whole team looks exhausted. Even McLeod can’t move his feet to get to any grounders.
-

If strike zone the same. The count is as 2-2 on that 4 pitch walk.

He's either totally fooling them or he is being hit hard and more often than not hit a long way.
Burroughs has ridden that horse too long and too hard and is about to have to put him down.
-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
The past month Crigger throws a strike with two strikes and good hitters protecting the plate say THANK YOU!
-

Tamiya soft single to right. Cue shot.
Joe foul bunt strikeout. #4.
Kulasingam doubles to the wall in left center. Runners at second and third.
Visit from Fouts.
Covin grounds to Elliott who cuts down the runner trying to score. Runners at first and third.
Garcia grounds to Young.
Air Force 9-7 after 8 1/2.

Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
It’s apparent that little grounders are far more helpful to the outcome of winning a game than high fly warning track fly ball outs.
-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
The guy on 3rd got there on the 2nd out sacrifice. The next two walked. Blame it on #12 for not getting a hit. I know…it’s easier to just throw out the LOB thing.

#2 hitter has to bat better than .252. Blame that on the misordered batting order Burroughs has insisted upon using.

Dornak continues.
Netterville flies to right.
McConnell singles to right. Tying run to the plate.
Corona grounds into a 4-6-3 double play.

I give Air Force their due, but that was a sad pitching performance by Tech. Once again Burroughs can’t take the Dawgs barely into the shallows of the post season.

100% true. Burroughs just ain’t that bright as a critical thinking coach.
-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
Just way to inconsistent in pitching and timely hitting. Can’t win without both.
-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
This team over achieved. If Gibson is healthy it would be a different weekend.
-
Re: Game Day vs. Air Force
Now that the season is over, did we have any newcomers this year that made a significant impact? I can’t think of anyone.
It’s amazing we did as well as we did considering how inconsistent our pitching and hitting were.
