NCAA Baseball Supers and CWS
ECU 13 Texas 7 Final
Notre Dame 5 Tennessee 0 3rd inning
Some early surprises.
Also
Oklahoma 5 Va Tech 4 Final

Re: NCAA Baseball Supers and CWS
Tennessee fans even worse than USM throwing their beer cans on the field. Arrogant fans seem to enjoy making themselves obvious. I’d love to see another #1 ranked go down early.

ECU is a higher national seed at #8 than Texas at #9. That's why the Super is at The Jungle and not in Austin.

Oh, I didn’t realize that. I saw the box score but didn’t know they were above TX

A USM fan started a thread on the CUSA forum seeking support for the Mustard Buzzards in the Super Regional. He claims they represent CUSA, blah, blah, blah... I did not reply on that thread because I wasn't sure how I actually felt about it. Usually as I watch a game I find myself rooting for one side and well...I was rooting for Ole Miss today. No, USM and the other two threatened to sue CUSA just so they could violate the terms of their agreement. So, they are just Belchers to me. I am not an Ole Miss fan, or an SEC fan, so I don't care about them either. Maybe it's just the lesser of two evils kind of thing.

Re: NCAA Baseball Supers and CWS
My empathy for Southern Miss athletics is equal to the number of runs the Mustard Buzzards scored on Saturday. That's the most polite way I can put it.
One thing for sure...all of the lower seeded teams on the right side of the bracket won Game 1s Saturday. And Auburn is the only national seed winner in that bunch. Still possible for only three of the 16 national seeds to make it to Omaha.

Would be great to see the anointed ones go down in flames. Would love to see ND knock off Tennessee, but whoa! UT is so damn good. They accidently hit HRs on "excuse me" swings. The Texas-ECU series has been interesting and Game 3 should be a good one.

TTB means That's too bad.
I am with you rooting for Southern Miss, ECU or UCONN. No team outside the Power 5 has even made the World Series since 2017.

SMTTT is a common cheer for USM fans that means Southern Miss To The Top. I believe Amos Moses was playing with that chant to mean the opposite with his change. He'll have to be the one to clarify.

I hope Southern Miss loses every game they ever play. I hope ECU and UCONN can make a run and eliminate as many of the haves as they can along the way.

Not directly but one could argue the money they get from being P5 goes to help their baseball facilities (as well as other facilities) making their recruitment and training much harder to compete against as G5s in baseball. Furthermore by winning against them in baseball it helps to keep any idea of "separation" at bay amongst fans. This is something Tech has to compete against as many fans (alumni or not) of LSU think Tech is another division.

The proposed new unlimited scholarships, unlimited coaches rules in all sports would destroy G5 athletic programs, especially baseball. But whoever thought of that forgot about Title IX, so court challenges would be a guarantee.

For the most part College Baseball is limited to the warmer weather regions. There is PLENTY of talent to go around. We aren’t competing with P5s for our players. Anybody you’ve had a conversation with who thinks lsu is in another division is at best ignorant but more likely just a DA. USM winning hurts us recruiting wise much more than Ole Miss winning

Have seen a few Oregon State games. We should get some of their players to fly down here to teach us how to bunt.

Re: NCAA Baseball Supers and CWS
Game Three tonight:
Auburn vs. Oregon State
UCONN vs. Stanford
Texas bombed ECU 11-1 to take that series. ECU was up 4 runs with 5 outs to get in game 2 and couldn't get it done. Think I saw where ECU has the most, or one of the most, regional appearances (close to 40) without ever having reached the CWS.

Re: NCAA Baseball Supers and CWS
I routed for LSU vs So Miss
I hate Tenn but if Tenn would of been playing against So Miss, I would of been Go Vols!
Karma always comes home to roost and USM, ODU and Marshall have it coming in spades!
-
Re: NCAA Baseball Supers and CWS
Whatever befalls the SB3 they have certainly earned it. But actually, Belch baseball just got stronger with the additions of ODU and USM. It was already a solid conference with the likes of Texas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, and a few others that are usually pretty good...yes, our good friends down in Lafayette. South Alabama was a powerhouse "back in the day" when Eddie Stankey was their coach; no reason that program can't return to better days.
As for USM, I have always respected them, but have never liked them and don't root for them in post season play, even when they represented our conference.

I hate to admit it, but I picked ND to win the CWS. I like their pitching and the fact they have some veterans. Plus they’ve been hot.
I think Arkansas could be their opponent in the finals. I’m already having nightmares hearing that stupid Razorback yell.

So, when I say I did watch the game, what will you say next, Mr. "obviously"?
Another dumb thing to say. I have been watching ALL of the games. For most regulars to this forum, they would say...considering I have posted sometimes DURING the games...I have been watching. I even commented on the three azzholes with the ugly LSU garb on behind home plate, first row. YET! you state it is OBVIOUS I didn't watch the game. How did you arrive at the wrong conclusion when ALL of the evidence says otherwise?
As for the second question....the Ark lefty was destroying left-handed batters. He faced 4 OM hitters with the bases loaded and no outs. Three left-handed batters and one righty. The righty got a hit, infield single that plated a run, and the 3 lefties were puddy in the hands of the Piggy pitcher. Oh, I dunno, maybe pinch hit with a couple of right-handed batters. Maybe a squeeze play? A lefty can drag bunt down the 1st base line.
Thirdly, I was just having some fun with ya, Monty. Don't take posts on this forum so seriously...;)
-
Re: NCAA Baseball Supers and CWS
Not taken seriously. I'm a student of the game so teach me. What do you call when the first batter comes up with no outs and bases loaded?
- Let him swing
- Squeeze play
Leatherwood was called in to pinch hit. He struck out for out one. Questionable move?
McCants goes to the plate in a double switch. Hits it to right, but not deep enough to get the run in for out two.
They get a run in and keep the bases loaded.
Next guy flies out to right.
Other than calling a squeeze with no outs or one out, there was nothing else that could have been done.
I know, it's easier to just say, "...left the bases loaded!"

The batter could have been called out but the runner had crossed the plate prior to the collision at 1st, and besides the runner coming off of 3rd had nothing to do with the "interference" at 1st base. Run should have stood. Stupid call, stupid rule. Oklahoma got jobbed. That said I was rooting for Ole Miss...well, sort of...but as an objective observer, OK got robbed.
Just another stupid rule in baseball, which for such a simple game, has a bunch of arbitrary rules.

No, the run should not have counted. The play was called correctly according to the rules. If coaches don’t like the rule, get it changed.

I think I heard they were the very last team in. But all you need sometimes is a chance. Three in a row for the SEC and 4 of the last 5. It is the SEC's world, they just let the rest of us live in it. At least for now.

Nothing arbitrary or funny about it. Batter/runner is out and all other runners must return to where they started as if the play never happened. That's the penalty for obstruction.
This is one type of play that rarely gets enforced without replay because most college umpires just aren't good enough to recognize when the call needs to be made.
It was a devastating call against Oklahoma because that was basically the only way a run wasn't going to score. But it was blatant obstruction since the runner's last two strides both clearly landed in fair territory out of the running lane. The lane is there for a reason and must be adhered to. The play would not have been overturned if the runner had landed one of those last two steps inside the lane.

I would never complain about the basic and well aged baseball rules. I've seen this missed many more times that called so as a former catcher, I LOVE it when I see it called. I was coached to hit the runner in the back with a the ball on a bunt or slow roller if he was inside the line.
I also think replay is BS unless they decide to use it behind the plate where there is actually no margin for error.

Replay isn't needed for balls and strikes. The original ball/strike calls should be made electronically. The technology is there, and plate umpires demonstrate that is needed every time a batter is rung up on a pitch that passes the front of the plate either fully over the opposite batter's box line or actually in the opposite batter's box. And in college baseball that happens at least once a game if not more.
I get tired hearing commentators talk about an umpire's strike zone. There is one strike zone specified in the rules for each batter, and it is the plate umpire's job to call pitches by the book. Even if the available technology isn't used in games, it should be used to certify whether an umpire is competent enough to be a plate umpire.
