Pathetic opening defensive effort and the decision to return the kickoff was about as stupid as you can get.

First, the Tech returner busted his ass to return a kick that was literally almost kicked out of bounds at the goal line. His momentum was carry him away from the field, and he managed to only return it to the 10.

Then, when Tech punted to USA, literally 7 or 8 Tech defenders over-ran the play.

I agree. The last thing we need is our coach making stupid decisions. He's smarter than that.

It’s still the first quarter. Special teams have been special all during the Holtz era. New coach can’t fix it all in one summer. Some of y’all need a change of perspective. Things are improving, I know most of us want it to happen overnight with a new hire, but that’s not realistic.

Why would Tech take the 12-yd pass completion instead of the 15-yd pass interference penalty?

No, it's not. But making STUPID decisions needs to stop immediately. Our kick returner knew damn well he had no business returning that kick, when we could have had the ball on the 30-yd line instead. Those are the kind of STUPID decisions that CAN be corrected in one summer. And I expect them to be.

How many years have you watched kick returners make stupid decisions under other coaches? New Coach can scream it, but bad habits are hard to break.

Tech got out of that kickoff smelling like a rose. Need a stop here.

Probably not anymore than previous years. Tackling hasn’t been a strong characteristic of Tech defense for a while.

But those yards have come on chunk plays several times in this game already. Grubbs hit without wrapping up to give up an extra 15+ earlier, and that was about another 30 just on this last drive.

Well players miss tackles all the time, and physical play at La Tech has been lacking for years. Hell, the last tough team we had was probably during the JRP era.

Greg Garner doesn't run hard enough.

We’re definitely the greatest East-West runners.

Again, low football IQ. We lost an easy 3 points on that last drive because of McNeil's 2nd INT

Shoulders do not tackle.

Surprisingly difficult to tackle someone with your shoulder blades

S Alabama O-line tackles better than our defenders.

Our tackling is absolutely atrocious and we have no technique to break being held or make the holds more recognized

Once again our play calling at times or maybe McNeil's decision making makes no sense. It seems his short passing game is not very good either. At least we’re not all the way out of it at this point.
