Attendance for Saturday's game vs UAB
Any guesses as to what the real attendance will be at Saturday's game?
Things going against us for attendance:
Holiday weekend / School is out
People out of town
Deer / Duck season
Sock drawer needs sorting...
Apathy.. etc.
My guess maybe 5000 actual in attendance.. (it didn't appear much more than that for last home game)

Is this the lowest Tech football has ever been? Between conference realignment and this years record, I can’t remember feeling more deflated about Tech football.

Re: Attendance for Saturday's game vs UAB
I can’t remember a worse time. Even in the late part of the JB III years, I had hope. The P5 has crushed any hope of ever being anything more than what we are. As far as attendance, ~3,500 maybe

We've had worse. Trust me. 1979, 1987, 1993. Even Coach Lambright went 3-7 and winless in conference play in his first year in 1967. There was a group pressuring Dr. Taylor to let Lambright go and bring who many of the players wanted after the 66 season, George Doherty.
Like I said, it's been worse. Much worse.

Are those years comparable in terms of the lack of perceived future at the time? Right now I'm struggling to even define what a realistic best case scenario is for us.

In 1993 we were in the Big West and Jerry Stovall was the AD. It was worse than what we're facing now. Heck, the men's basketball program was in free fall at the same time.
In 1987 we had a coach leave and tell the president and AD that there was no way we were going to make it in I-A. At the same time there were political leaders telling our president we shouldn't even attempt to go to I-A. We elevated a position coach to head coach. It was worse than where we are now.
1979 has been discussed here in the past. Our head coach didn't finish the season. It took the head baseball coach to bring the team together.
In early 1967 we had players walk over the choice of a head coach.
Again, we've had things worse than today.

Re: Attendance for Saturday's game vs UAB
The difference of being bad now versus being bad back then is that forgiveness is a lot harder to come by and making up any ground versus everyone ahead of us is much tougher. Climbing out of this pitiful pit we’re in is going to be really tough and for every year it continues we’re going to be 2 more years further out.
For all those reasons, I think Cumbie has the toughest mountain to climb of all the coaches before him who’d inherited bad times. Most unfortunate right now after what I’ve seen I have my doubts that he’s up to it. That being said I’m very hopeful.
Attendance wise in actual people in the seats not counting any band members there are going to be roughly 2500.

Re: Attendance for Saturday's game vs UAB
I know it’s been worse, but this is the first time I have felt this apathetic. I was pretty low at the end of JBIII. Pretty low those last 2-3 years of Holtz. But back then I was upset about the lack of success. Now, it didn’t bother me much.

Thanks for the perspective. Feels the worst since I became a fan in 2003.

The '79, '87 and '93 teams would crush this bunch.

Re: Attendance for Saturday's game vs UAB
As my dad used to say, between 15-20000.

I feel your pain. You can put me in that same boat. I'll always support the Dogs, but we need to see some light in the tunnel somewhere.

I could use a dose of your dad's enthusiasm about right now, sure many other could too. I would bet we will be much closer to the 15 this week. I am guessing 5,000 to 5,500 actual attendance.

Re: Attendance for Saturday's game vs UAB
Dudes…. There is gonna be like 1000 actual people there lol. Y’all realize 5000 means the stadium is 18% full?

You are correct, but the announced will be closer to 8000. If you asked the admin, they'd say most of the "fans" are in the DAC or the press box. Hope they are enjoying those parking spots.
How's that 8:00AM tailgating rule going for the gameday planners?

Re: Attendance for Saturday's game vs UAB
Some of you guys keep celebrating the fact that nobody will be at this UAB game...... Fine, just put your expected attendance at ZERO, and then nobody can guess lower than you!
This is a stupid thread. And not one that potential recruits want to see. Some of you people are your own worst enemy.

Then come to Tech and help restore the program, or go somewhere else. Who gives a crap? There is plenty of talent to be had out there.

These threads are for us to bitch about the program because none of us can actually affect any change.
Any recruits reading this: if you can actually play Division One Football you will sell tickets at Tech

Chance of rain, 1000%. That should help.

Re: Attendance for Saturday's game vs UAB
Frogg Toggs, polypropylene underlayer, poncho, hat all ready: just missing the late BBBer Dogsince65. We have a photo somewhere from a late 4th quarter DOWNPOUR in JAS vs Middle Tennessee a few years ago. We were the only 2 still left on the East side. Good times. If the Bulldogs are as tough tomorrow as Phil (Dogsince 65) and I Tech might pull this one out!!

Every CFB has people who complain because they want better for their program. What’s worse for a recruit to read a post about possible attendance at a home game or going on a school visit and seeing it first hand?

I say you should give the pre game locker room pep talk tomorrow. Let these guys know what pains were spent laying the foundation for this program. Explain to them you experienced the Spirit of '88 first hand. Heck UAB at home, piece of cake. Enjoy the game tomorrow. GO DAWGS!!!!!

Re: Attendance for Saturday's game vs UAB
I have seen MUCH worse than this year and the apathy was there in those years too. The great thing about sports is that you get to start all over again every single year. Things can turn around quickly.

100% I struggle finding something to be excited about or look forward to next year. I remember celebrating a WAC title on this weekend in the rain. But this week I’ve been thinking, I’m not sitting in the rain for this. I’d be shocked if 2500 people are there for kick. Maybe not worst ever but the worst , I’ve ever seen.

Yeah, but then some folks are just whiners.

Looks like about 300 fans in the stands.

You gotta wonder what a new coach thinks about attendance. Sure the season has sucked. The weather is sucky. But it can't be a good feeling to see that handful of fans in the stands. If nothing else for the seniors. But I'll admit I wasn't there. I've tired of the entire Tech experience...or non-experience. Not worth the money nor the drive...and I don't live that far away. Give me a real reason to show up. Give me something to be excited about. I haven't been excited in several years. Heard the guy going to Nebraska talking this morning. He talked about how he felt like the school president and the AD and he were all on the same page. I'm wondering if our president, AD, and coach are even using the same playbook. Thankfully this season has slithered to an end. Now we can worry about next year...

Re: Attendance for Saturday's game vs UAB
Our admin doesn't care. They're content on where we currently are at. We need outside leadership badly.

Re: Attendance for Saturday's game vs UAB
As an aside, I really enjoyed Tom Herman's color analysis on yesterday's CBS telecast. He stayed on point and offered very accurate and insightful commentary on the game. Quite refreshing from the usual useless drivel we get from the TV guys.

I just had to LOL on this one.
I feel so sorry for those interns/resume builders the athletics department brings in from outside to make the wheels turn while they overachieve with new ideas and get these kind of results.
I made it to my first Tech football game in two seasons. A little wet, but fun as always.
One meaningless request, on overcast dull days can we do away with the smoke bombs. Fireworks . . . okay . . . smoke signals linger too long in the misty weather.

Great photos as always, @Dawgpix. Next time there's 200 people in the stands you should send out a form beforehand for us to request photos of our soggy selves in the stands.
On a more serious note, someone in the Athletics Department needs to get with you and suggest a fundraiser for someone to get to be your photography assistant for a game.

Good idea, never too old for NIL production work (that would pay...LOL!) even if you don't have anymore eligibility!
Oh, the production help idea? PawDawg and DeeWayne tried to carry my equipment around one year at aTm, but they never got past the media food spread.

Re: Attendance for Saturday's game vs UAB
We were there last Saturday. All had plans to go into the game if it stopped raining which it really never did. A few brave souls went in but most of us stayed underneath the tent and watched the game, ate more of the great chili we had still got pretty wet. According to the box office score there were 10,342 in attendance. So instead of there being 8-10 under the tent there was actually 40 plus! And it was also SUNNY!!
