Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
I moved this from the Air Force thread since it’s more relevant here. If I was deciding things based on what I’ve seen and know from last year this would be the team I’d go with…
1 McLeod SS
2 Myers LF
3 Davis 2nd or 1st
4 Evans 1st or 2nd
5 Burchfield DH
6 Bates 3rd
7 Corona C / Slaughter
8 Hogart RF / Matulia as a backup
9 Drost CF / Matulia as a backup
Beyond that I’m telling the team to start off looking to swing at first pitch fastballs until Charlotte figures it out. We’re looking at too many early strikes and getting behind in the count and then swinging at their get out pitches.
Pitching wise, quit with the getting ahead in the count and then trying to nibble at the edges. Let’s attack the strike zone like Fincher did against AF. Pitching defensively like we tend to do is a recipe for failure.

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
On the game yesterday. Our biggest problem was not hitting what was thrown regardless of whether WE thought it was a strike. Ump established His strike zone early and we refused to swing. Right handed batters did go with the pitch and hit a couple into right and right center. Our entire lineup has to learn to hit it where it’s thrown.

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
This is a huge series -
Maybe they will discover some “dawg and fight” inside them this weekend
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
It will be interesting to see how many times they change the Sunday game time this year. Yes, I understand things change due to flight issues. So far we've had two changes in three Sunday games.

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
I have no major complaints about the lineup for tonight. Provided that Drost starts hitting the ball.

He’s in the one hole. What is his OB%
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
The batting woes for Drost 0-8 & 0 RBI and Matulia 0-19 & 0 RBI continue. Somebody needs to de-funk their lockers.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Okay, that solidifies my position. Drost not hitting makes him a total liability on O and D.

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
LB trying to force his offensive desires into the lineup. He needs to think like a coach instead of "see I was right" kind of guy.
Glad Fincher showed up in his last few innings. It's all about pitching.
Dave said last night that both guys with the mysterious "illness" would be available today. This after LB said they would be out through the weekend.
Good win last night!
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Does Hector have some pictures of LB? No way that guy should be a weekend starter right now.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
No errors scored on us is a joke!
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
This team has zero leadership from the head coach down.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
All teams do is hit Tech pitching

22 hits allowed. That’s BP level pitching.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Coach Fouts shouldn’t even finish the season.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Only a couple of walks today. LB has got to be livid over his lack of pitchers, but it's on him not his PC.
Our defense was horrible today as well.

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
The writing on the wall for this team’s inevitable underachieving season isn’t written in pencil it’s in 10 foot tall bold block letters. Tech is simply a very dysfunctional team with way too many weaknesses to bandaid them all and some of that includes their coaching. I don’t think Tech could get 22 hits against any of the better Louisiana high school teams yet they gave up that many today. There’s no way our pitchers are this bad without having been coached down from where they were. Martinez and Harland are the top two good examples of this. Once upon a time they were both pretty good and actually starter capable. Now they can barely get through an inning. That’s all on bad backsliding player development coaching.

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
I don’t like the way Burroughs tries to match up our batters to opposing starters. Just because they throw a right handed doesn’t mean we need more lefties in the lineup.

he has always done that unless it means pulling one of his favorites

Sunday game not airing on 97.7 yet. Another great job by Learfield

Game moved back to 11:20 AM, airtime 11:15. No interview this morning. Charlotte had transportation issues, Tech stepped in and helped.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
LB doesn’t like to give interviews following a loss. He has special privileges apparently.

If that’s true we won’t be hearing from him very often

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Down 2-0 after 3 1/2. Not having a true Center Fielder or his bat is hurting us.
Down 2-0 after 4.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Up and down in order in top of 5th.
We finally get a hit but no runs. Still down 2-0 after 5
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
We are already the conference fly out champions. How about we try something different. Their #1 Fisher batter is better than all ours put together.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Pitching change for Tech after giving up 2 in the top of 6. Tompkins in
Tompkins gives up a 3-2 two run double. Then another double.
Now down 7-0. After Charlotte bats around we get another turn
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
More of the same. I stand by my opinion that the park should have been moved so the dimensions could be made comparable to college parks. We swing for our fences because they are so easy to reach. Turns in to long fly outs at home and short embarrassing pop ups on the road where the corners are 335. Charlotte is knocking the cover off the ball because they have been coached to keep the bat in the strike zone.

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Another series like this and they will be dreaming of women’s basketball level attendance for this garbage.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Bad coaching leads to bad results. It’s just that simple. The more we play, the worse we get.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Davis infield pop up.
Evans grounds out.
Matulia pops up for out #3
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Martinez in.
6-3 double play. For out # 3
Corona gets our 2nd hit of the day
Burchfield. Flys out.
AD Flys out
McLeod get a single and moves Corona to 3rd.
Hogart pops up for out 3

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
It is possible that our roster, 1-27 is all slumping at the same time, right? Please tell me it’s possible.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
No, this is actually the beginning of the return to Simoneaux’s bad baseball just with potentially supposedly better players.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Has Phil gotten a hit this weekend? 0-30 now?
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Bates grounds out.
Davis grounds out.
Evans gets on by error.
Matulia walks
Corona at bat.
Pitching change. 112 pitch three hitter in his first start

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Just imagine the transfer portal devastation after this season ends when everybody with any talent leaves and the commitments change their minds.
Burroughs will have to replace his underachieving assistants in hopes of keeping any players which is his only real world option. Gaspard and Fouts are both absolutely terrible and have been for years already. It’s just that in the past they’ve had some really good players that outdid their bad coaching.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Harland is very effective when he reaches back and grabs 87-88. Ball has movement. At 84 it’s flat and crushable.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
9-0 now
How embarrassing.
So glad we saved the $10 in gas for the drive over.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Does this team have more than 22-25 wins in them? Don’t see it.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Should we expect LB to do a post game interview?
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Burroughs did the interview and essentially said what we all know, that Tech isn’t a good baseball team right now. What was clearly noticeable was the defeated sound in his voice. The optimist talk from Monday’s radio show was gone. It sounded to me like he knows he’s got a team full of big problems and doesn’t have any solutions other than wanting the players to step up and perform better. From what I’ve see there’s not anyone on the bench that can help who hasn’t already had a few chances and couldn’t do it. What Burroughs hasn’t said yet is that he and his coaches need to change what they’re doing.

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
It’s like a basketball team that loses by 6 points while shooting 18 for 30 at the free throw line. Seems familiar. FBS level players don’t struggle with simple things the way all our teams seem to struggle.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
I think we all know how many fly balls Tech hits, but out of curiosity I tallied them up for the weekend series. Tech flied out 41 times compared to CLT’s 29. That’s a whole lot of easy outs and clearly proof that our team’s swing technique is wrong. You can’t hit that many fly balls all by accident.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
I think it's safe to say that after a sample of 20 games this is a sub mediocre team at best
25 wins might be the absolute ceiling for them
For all the preseason hub-bub we haven't seen the talent at the plate or on the mound
Yes - they miss McConnell, but even with him they are not making up for runs a ballgame
We are just BAD, B A D not in a good way bad right now

Wait a minute......are we still talking about baseball? Or Men's basketball? Or Football? I swear, it's hard to keep up.....

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Cheers for Lady Techster softball!

Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
When I watched us play against Northwestern, I knew we were in big trouble this year. Anytime theres a guy on the mound with a 30+ ERA sitting your guys down like Greg Maddox, you’ve got issues. Pitching is equally atrocious. Hard to imagine a team regressing this much in one year, yet here we are making it look easy.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
I was thinking back on all the leadership we have lost in the last 2 years. Those leaders either weren’t coaching up their locker room replacements or no one is built for it. We have lost a dozen or so players that were unreal teammates. I am a firm believer that you are born with leadership qualities or you aren’t and it is extremely hard to learn to be a leader.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
Adversity creates leadership. As we spiral downward, someone will step up. Maybe a few guys. No way are we 40 deep of weak-minded humans. The time is now. Freshman? Benchwarmer? Who cares? Whoever cares will be that guy.
-
Re: Preview: LA Tech vs. Charlotte Series
There’s nothing but truth to the saying ‘lead by example’. Right now Tech doesn’t have any leaders because no one is playing well enough to take the reins. I don’t know if we even have a team captain. If we do I haven’t heard. That also says a lot.

This year the captains are -
Fincher
Matulia
Meyers
What does Meatloaf say - Two out of three ain't bad....
