Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
Three home games in five days, starting with SMU tonight, Thursday. Still time, though barely, to resurrect a winning season. I'll be looking for an intense, all out effort tonight. Go Techsters!!

WRONG!! SMU and Alcorn with losing records we should beat, Cal Baptist is 8 - 0 and looking at their schedule we CAN give them their first loss. It's what we should do in Ruston. Jump on 'em early and never let up.

3-0 homestand...works for me! But I am neither playing nor coaching. Brooke's bunch has to step up and start playing like a team wearing those powder blue unis.

Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
28-26 SMU up at half. SMU wins 69-53

WRONG! Oops!
Was it "competitive" enough that we can claim a moral victory? Where's Phil?

I'm not supposed to say anything negative so I'll say something positive.

Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
Good gosh, how bad is this team?
They lost to the Lady Razorbacks by 40. Then UAPB beat the Arkansas women on Sunday.

This Lady Techster team could go down as the worst in the history of the Techsters.

I think they have a lock on that already.

Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
It’s time to let these coaches go. It’s depressing to watch this program drop this far. Our AD needs to act or leave himself
-
Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
Heading to Ruston. Tuesday both Robyn Lee and Roberson had double doubles and Brannon was back. Need this again plus 1-2 others to step up for a win. We shall see.

Bless your heart. Tech should NEVER lose to a SWAC team, but we'll see.
-
Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
Halftime Alcorn 24 Tech 21
20 minutes left to avoid embarrassment. This team is awful.

:shocked2:Pray for me if we don't pull this out
-
Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
Tech has lost to a SWAC school once in 50 years. Let's not make it two.
-
Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
Tech 49 Alcorn 47
Now 11-0 all-time vs. Alcorn State.
Alcorn is the better team and would easily win a 7-game series. Much better coached.
-
Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
I’m quite shocked that Tech won but even in that it’s disgusting to win by only 2 points. This has to be Tech’s all time worst team since their very first year. There should be a lot of people who are sickened by this. The once world class Lady Techsters now stink and it’s the adults in charge who are responsible.

Didn't the Techsters go 13-9 in their very first year? I thought so, but it's been 50 years since then and my memory is starting to fade (a little).
-
Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
A win is a win is a win. I wasn't counting, but it seemed to me there were many, many Tech shots that went partially down the basket and then popped out during the Alcorn game - many more than usual. Barely beating a 2 - 5 SWAC team doesn't really bode well for the rest of the season (although Alcorn has played some good teams so far), but for now, I plan to continue watching the games.

13-8 with two wins over LSU.

Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
Last week our HC was looking at a contract extension...
-
Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
I love Brooke, but it's time to move on...

Please tell me this was a joke! I can't fathom one reason why this would even be contemplated. She and hubby are absolutely awful. If you judge a HC by their record, then she should have been gone long ago. However, I know 1/2 of this board still want her (for reasons I can't even bear to hear). "She runs a clean program!" - yep, right into the ground! "She's an ex-Lady Techster" - yep and I used to be 180 lbs. Both are history that have no bearing on the present. This would be the last straw if the AD actually rewards her with an extension!
-
Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
Things are really bad. We are not even a threat within the conference.

Brooke's players have set a record for GPA, think I saw there are 3 or 4 perfect 4.0 GPAs, and the team as a whole is something like 3.5 GPA. I know some of you don't give a damn about stats like this, but these are supposed to be STUDENT-athletes.
That said, yes, I would prefer a high a team GPA and a high team winning percentage on the floor. I will say, however, these results can be accomplished with just about any coach, one we pay a whole lot less than what Brooke & hubby are making. Which is why I advocate for allowing Brooke to play out her contract string and then hiring a "cheap" coach. They are out there, and there are plenty of "good" players who will love to play college ball while earning a degree.

I mean, yes. If the purpose of the team is to keep the athletic GPA up, then that can be done a lot more cheaply.

If you want student-athletes, get out of FBS and probably FCS, because you won’t be able to compete.

Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
Info on Brooke's initial contract is available here: https://www.thenewsstar.com/story/sp...tech/83990038/
Says $206,000 in 2017 with $10,000 annual increases maxing at $246,000 in year six, $1,376,000 over six years in original contract. Doesn't include the extension two years.
-
Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
Brooke is here through 2025-26 season. She had an extension in the summer of 2022. I guess Dr. Wood was impressed with the WNIT invite that year and gave her an extension.

Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
Tech 35 Cal Baptist 16 Halftime
How the hell is Cal Baptist 9-0 and playing a rather decent schedule too? I mean, not a bunch of NAIA teams.
I suspect they are not as horrible as they have looked, and I predict that they will make a game of it in the 2nd half. Maybe the Techsters can hold on.
-
Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
Who are these players?
And where have they been the last 10 games???

64-31 after 3 quarters. I suppose CBU is not going to make a run.
77-51 Final
14/23 61% from the FT line. Must drive Brooke crazy given she was a 90%+ FT shooter in her career.
Good win.

Won two of three at home to get to 4 - 9. At South Alabama Thursday, at Abilene Christian next week. Need to establish that we can win on the road. Then on to conference.
-
Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
ROAD WIN!! 68 - 34 at South Alabama.
-
Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
Two solid wins back to back. I am interested in seeing the match up with ACU
-
Re: Homestand: SMU, Alcorn, Cal Baptist
Not often you win a road game with double the opponent’s score.

That was a "WOW" game... We need to pull some of those off. It is a very strange year and we should be better than how we have played so far.
