Okay, the Crummy experiment is over with! We need to find a new way going forward!
I can't keep watching this mess every week!
Admin...come Monday, we need to find a new way going forward. This program sucks and there seems to be no way that it's going to get any better...
I can't keep watching this train wreck!
I don't have any confidence that Ivey cares.
And throwing my money at LTAC in the hopes that this program will prosper!
Cumbie and staff doesn't have a clue as to how to coach...amateur's! Not ready for prime time or any time!
Most of us will never live to see this program be even a shadow of what it once was. Sad
I can't believe that programs like ULL, ULM, USM, UAB, and all of the other programs that we once considered as our peers are programs that have left us behind. Lets just cut to the chase and drop to the FCS.
Oh wait...South Dakota State, North Dakota would kick our ass! Nichols State gave us a run for our money...oh wait, we paid them to almost beat our a$$!
I'm not sure about that BD! Our admin will not be willing to pay a good prospective candidate enough to take on the job! They want to get a coach and staff on the cheap. Rather than hiring a quality Coach that we know will realistically leave after 2-3 years...but build a competitive program, we will instead hire a coach on the cheap and cross our fingers in anticipation that they will make something happen.
Hahaha...yes I am! Hmmmmm...Nick Saban level money? I would have to think about that one!
There are a lot of highly qualified coaches with a deep breadth of experience that coached at the highest level that are unemployed (or will be unemployed) that would like to resuscitate their careers but need an opportunity or opening to do that. Let’s be realistic…Tech like any other “Group of Five” program is a stepping stone for these guys to restart their careers. We need to take advantage of these guys with the experience as a head coach at the highest level with the understanding that we know they will be moving forward if they are successful for the "BIG" money! But, Tech as a whole will benefit in the regard that we can in fact develop into a program that’s desirable destination for their replacements.
Just my thoughts!
Up to this point and during my 40 plus years of fandom, Bicknell's last year was the low point for Tech Athletics.
It's never been as bad as it is right now. We have totally failed to adapt to the new NCAA crap while our "peers" have made the needed adjustments. FWIW, our peers now include teams from the Southland. This is bad...
Have we ever fired a coach middle of the season?
Maybe Beightol who was 1-9 in his first year at Tech when he was canned. The last game that year was left to baseball coach Patterson to win, beating NLU 13-10. The biggest problem these days other than Crumbie essentially being under contract to be paid to lose and will continue to be for 2 more years is that there really aren’t any Tech Champions left to raise he’ll about him still being here and going about his greatly underachieving work to tear down Tech’s previously great football history. Just imagine coaches Aillet’s and Lambright’s reaction to what’s looking like 4 consecutive years of 3-9 records. When there’s no Tech blood left to carry the flag in tradition this is what we get. Yes I know, Reneau and Guice were supposed to be Tech guys but they were bureaucratic egg heads who didn’t understand sports or business.
Admin (Pres/AD) don't give two twits about Louisiana Tech. This is a job for them. They'll go somewhere else when they can't make it any longer in Ruston. There is no loyalty from these guys. They. Don't. Care. like we care. It's damn frustrating. We need a JRP again. We need some Tech blood behind the wheel. I am so over these "experiments". Hell, we once considered NLU/ULM to be below us. Now we're sucking the hind tit.
Jacksonville (5-3) beat Liberty (5-2) at Liberty and now comes to Tech (3-5) for Tech’s homecoming. 3-6 is looking pretty much guaranteed and on track for Crumbie’s 3rd consecutive 3-9 season.
I can't help but root hard for the Dawgs during the games. I fuss at the zebras when they miss calls against us, and my heart & soul is in it for the players, wanting them to be successful. But...there is an underlying reality in this too. I can't wish for it to happen, so I will phrase it this way: what will be the reaction of the alumni, donors, big supporters of Tech if on Homecoming, the football team gets smoked?
Jax State has a football coach, in Rich Rod, we have a "surfer dude" who would burn the patties working at a Burger King.
I don't think it is just "Tech blood" that we need. We need guys who are good at their jobs and care about the quality of their work. You think Alabama limits their search for Pres/AD/HC to graduates just to get Crimson Tide blood? No, they get guys who will be good for their business.
We...don't. In fact, sometimes we've intentionally done the opposite.
Tech’s football Facebook page is blowing up with calls for Crummy to be fired. Over 200 comments when I glanced at it earlier this morning. No supporters that I have seen.
Holtz had an overall great career at Tech except towards the end. His last few teams were hot garbage.
2020 was a Covid year, but Holtz couldn't fix his offensive line and his play calling was bad. Former DC Blake Baker left in 2018, and we had a good band-aid hire with Bob Diaco 2019. The next year Holtz hired his buddy David Blackwell (recently terminated by ODU) who tanked the defense. On the offensive side, the line was really bad. BYU just manhandled us with only rushing 3 guys. We went with the weird Luke Anthony/Aaron Allen QB rotation. At the end of the season, Bowl Game Holtz didn't show up against Georgia Southern in the New Orleans bowl. We got stomped 3-38 by a Sun Belt school. We ended the season ranked #117 Total Offense #81 Total Defense.
2021 Holtz went 3-9. He found Kendall Austin to try to fix our QB issue. Holtz also brought in coach Guge, who have been hopping around the NFL for most of the 2010s, to fix the oline. They were a little better at times but still a mess. Then there was the USM game. Both Tech and USM were the bottom of the CUSA West. USM had ran out of QBs and beat us with a RB in Frank Gore Jr. We ended the season #77 Total Offense #106 Total Defense.
At the end, no one showed up to the Joe to see Tech play. Even if we gave Holtz another year, I doubt he could turn it around. Congrats to him in the UFL. At 60, I don't think he will coach college ball again. He got a good gig and probably gets more time with his dad and golfing.
The JMar fiasco did it for me when Holtz allowed him to keep smoking weed knowing he could cost the team a conference championship. JMar was a pure turd and Holtz let him do whatever he wanted. I blame Holtz for that and another before when 3 or 4 key players flunked out prior to the championship game. Holtz got his bonuses and the fans got a low tier bowl game.
I don't disagree with you. It would be a plus, though, in my opinion for those that are good at their jobs and care about the quality of their work to have a Tech connection. I don't know why I care, because college football, as I knew it, is gone. I'm just tired of this S***show we've been watching since before Holtz left.
This could have been the moment that we finally got over the hump and win the conference. We had lost only against Texas and were on roll to winning the conference and then that JMar fiasco and lost two conference games. After 7 seasons, he still couldn't win the conference. We got a big W against Miami in the I-Bowl and it was a our 6th bowl win in a row. Still a good season but we seemed to be stuck in that mindset. A good (but not great) winning season and a bowl win, but nothing more. Always competitive, but no conference titles and no rankings.
Then 2020 happened and that season was a COVID mess. Then, 2021 looked promising at first. We collapsed against Miss St after leading most of the game. A hail mary loss to SMU. A competitive loss to NCST (tied or trailing by a touchdown the whole game). Every loss was by one score. Not winning but we were competitive again! Then the team just collapsed. losing to UTEP, UTSA, Old Dominion, UAB, USM(with no QB) and Rice. Holtz wasn't going to get it done. He had lost the team. After almost a decade, we had no conference title, no rankings and at best it wasn't getting better. Realistically we had regressed.
In hindsight, would it have been better to keep Holtz? Likely compared to Cumbie. But at that moment, it wasn't a bad call if we wanted to strive for more than being "competitive".
It was time for Holtz to go. Holtz has even admitted he had no drive or desire to be here anymore. Firing Holtz was right, then we Jeched it up with a bad hire. Holtz had nothing coming in and would have the same record as Crumbie probably.
I'm not sure what Ivey will be looking at as the next HC. I would like to see someone with head coaching experience who can establish a winning culture here. A culture where kids are held accountable. A program where we don't have kids not make a bowl game because of grades.
As bad as things currently are, we'll probably have to settle...again...for someone untested. Someone that is an "up and comer". UNLESS we're able to find someone with a "history" and on their way down looking for a way to revive their tainted career. No one in their right mind that has any other options would be fool enough to come to Ruston at this point unless they're a glutton for punishment. Whoever comes won't have to tear down much to start the rebuild. It's pretty much at ground zero now. It'll be clean house and start from scratch time. But we'll all buy into it because we're eternal optimists. We believe the next one will be "The One"...
It’ll be like going back to 1988 except we won’t have a Joe Ramond Peace to establish an attitude of building up. These days the NCAA is all about reinforcing the powers at be while keeping the downtrodden under foot. La Tech is seriously screwed long term. Jech won’t have a winning record again until at least sometime in the 2030s.
Well, gee, that's discouraging...:(
Except, it doesn't have to be that way with the right hire. The biggest question is, can Jech not be "Jech" and instead be "TECH" and get that right hire? I have very little confidence in our current leadership to do it right. But, we'll see. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then.
President Trump is going to revitalize Tech football
Tech could very easily not have a winning record for at least another 6 seasons which would put them at 9 years. ULM is currently 11 years without a winning record and even though they’re 5-3 now doesn’t mean they’ll have one this year. Oh and for those who would say Jech isn’t ULM, you’re right, we’re actually worse. In the last 3 years Jech is 9-27 while ULM is 10-26. “Mirror, mirror on the wall…” Jech is exactly as inept as they appear.
The fact that for at least a couple of decades in Louisiana it was LSU, then Tech, then everyone else and now we are below the level of the FBS "everyone elses" shows you how far this program has sunk. I wouldn't mind a few years of struggling if we were still above all of the others, but if NLU or USL came into our stadium for a game on a random Saturday would anyone feel good about it?
I’m watching Kent St play right now, and they might be the only program in the country that Crummy could beat by a FG. They are horrible.
You haven't been paying attention. Yes, Kent State is horrible, but we are Jech, and so their red-shirted freshman QB who has never taken a snap in a game will come in and set Kent State records for passing yards, rushing yards for a QB. Their defense, which would enter the game ranked dead last in every defensive stat in the nation, would look like the defense of the 1985 Chicago Bears...and you know the rest.
In all likelihood Crumbie will be back for his 4th season in 2025. So as it turns out the CUSA championship will be between Jacksonville St & Western Kentucky. Remember Tech beat WK and lost to Jax on the last play hail mary and OT loss. Things such as this and the fact that Crumbie improved by 2 wins this year and had 3 OT losses will be enough to give him the benefit of the doubt. The problem is that CC can’t run a truly efficient offense and he’s very likely to lose his defensive coordinator. Next year will probably be a one step forward returning QB offense with a two steps backwards regressing defense.
Let's just face the facts this athletic department is in a no win position. While I'm in the Fire Sonny Camp because like most people I believe wins and losses matter and when your 11-25 as an HC, 8-16 in CUSA Play, 2-16 on the road, and since 2022 Sonny Cumbie has the 2nd Worst record in the FBS.
You know what is funny? After their promising start, and the prospects of Tech being the only FBS school in Louisiana not bowling, the ulm injuns crashed and burned and ended up with us in the toilet at 5-7. Tech has problems with a horrible coach at the helm, but that can be fixed. But ulm..will always be ulm :shocked2:
They beat Kennesaw State.
Let’s not get too excited.
Kennesaw State.
