@BelisonMatt: Big news for #LATech as starting corner back Cedric Woods is expected to play after entering the portal a few weeks ago.
"We anticipate Cedric Woods playing in the game." - Sonny
LB Kolbe Fields will not be able to play
——-
Cumbie anticipates DC Jeremiah Johnson will coach in the Independence Bowl against Army. Johnson has been linked to open jobs at multiple P4 schools.
“He’s here with us, and we are putting together as good of a game plan as we can." #LATech

An article in the Baton Rouge paper this morning said 16 teams declined the I-bowl invite before before being offered to Tech. I wonder if that is correct.

We were next to last on APR, so they probably had to ask everyone ahead of us. The other 16 teams probably didn’t want to hassle with the logistics of traveling/playing on 14 days notice.

Thanks for that perfectly logical explanation.

Also we are on Quarter System (and in school), i.e. players are on-campus.
Looking at Cincinnati - semester ended December 14 (day we were announced).

Re: Football Press Conference | Bowl Bound vs. Army (Independence Bowl) - latechsports.c
So we "qualified" as a filler in this bowl only because everyone above us turned it down and we beat only ulm...this is worse than simply missing a bowl game. Bet Coach Crummy still gets his $25K bonus "for making a bowl."
Bunch of chit!
Still, Go Dawgs! Beat Army! :shocked2:

Re: Football Press Conference | Bowl Bound vs. Army (Independence Bowl) - latechsports.c
I had very mixed feelings about this, but I have seen a LOT of teams that did not deserve it in bowls over many years. I fear Army will make us look really bad, but I will be cheering on the Dawgs!!!!! 3 outcomes are possible: A close loss will not hurt us. A win will be miraculous and end the season on a super high note. A lopsided loss will be embarrassing on a national stage.
GO DAWGS!!!!!!

Seriously doubt that the Independence Bowl is considered a "national stage". Maybe Army brings a bit of viewership, but overall, Independence Bowl numbers are usually woeful. However, we will take whatever we can get at this point.

Evidently sometimes a blind hog or in Jech’s case ineptitude and largely sucking does find an acorns. Let’s just hope that Crumbie doesn’t somehow find a way to choke on it and make Jech’s situation even worse going forward. Go Dawgs overcome your coaching (offense & special teams) and beat Army. You can do-it’!

They won’t have their RB, so that helps

I have no faith Tech’s lawyers made sure this scenario was covered where we don’t pay.

Depends on if any other games are being played at the same time and how bored people are on the 28th...

Re: Football Press Conference | Bowl Bound vs. Army (Independence Bowl) - latechsports.c
Have a bad feeling we're gonna be happy no one sees this game. Hope I'm wrong, of course, but I just don't have much confidence in our fellows. First, Army is legit good and could/would give most teams a fit. Secondly, they are West Pointers, future American heroes, defenders of our nation. They definitely possess the "right stuff," and will show up, do their duty, bring their A+ game because that is who they are. I would be rooting for Army if they weren't playing Tech (or Notre Dame :D).
For the 60 minutes of the game, opening kickoff to the final seconds, I will be rooting for the Dawgs. As soon as the game is over, dem Army lads are again among my favorites!

Re: Football Press Conference | Bowl Bound vs. Army (Independence Bowl) - latechsports.c
Oh I don’t know when I drove through Tech the other day there were probably about 30 players practicing. Doesn’t that mean the player to coach ration is better to learn and improve by. Maybe Tech is going to have some guys go both ways like in the old days.

I'm "all in" for the BullDogs. I don't give a sheet about Army, Navy, "Notre Don't" or anyone else on the gridiron. I have a moderate, passing interest in Baylor athletics because my daughter graduated from there. But LA Tech is the only one I truly really care about. I know Army is very good this year, and Tech is a huge underdog in this game. But Army doesn't have an "athletic" advantage, or a size or speed or raw talent advantage, over Tech the way an Alabama, LSU or Ohio St, etc...would. So this one all comes down to coaching. (Yeah, I know, skaterbody) I'm hoping Jeremiah Johnson brings his usual tough defense to Shreveport and that Tony Franklin can inject some new life into our usually dormant offense. It will be tough, but I like the 'Dogs!
Hey, this won't be the first time the Bulldogs have upset somebody.

Oh my! doesn't matter to me. I am still a huge Notre Dame fan and always will be. In fact, I have just gotten a message from a business associate who has two extra tickets for the Sugar Bowl. I think I might take him up on those and go to the game. Have to give him an answer today, and I am still thinking about it.
As for the service academies I will always be a fan of them when not playing either Tech or Notre Dame. You can root for dem Baylor Bears. This time dem Bears are playing LSU...hmmm.
As for Tech's chances in this game, ordinarily, in the past I would say we had a "puncher's chance" usually because we had a potent offense who could score on anybody. Not so this year. Our offense is anemic. Our defense has performed well all season, and if intact, and ready to play, could keep us in this game. Question is, are they ready to play, and what effect will the departures have on our D? And usually, I am not in favor of "moral victories" but am making an exception this go-around. Just don't get slaughtered/embarrassed and I'll be satisfied.
GO DAWGS! BEAT ARMY!

Seems to me we beat Alabama 2 times in a row. Once when they won the SEC Championdhip. Who can forget 'the immortal "You Gotta Luv It' from Dave Nitz.

Those Tech teams had a real coach, and an offense stacked with NFL talent.

Re: Football Press Conference | Bowl Bound vs. Army (Independence Bowl) - latechsports.c
Tech has posted its game notes for the Indy Bowl. There are players who are in the transfer portal listed on the two-deep chart. And there are some notable absences (e.g. Blay, Buchanan). Tony Franklin is listed as the Offensive Coordinator (Parr is gone - named as HC at a D-II school in Texas). Jeremiah Johnson is listed as the DC.

All this lousy weather is clearing from the west. The worst should be thru Shreveport by gametime. Field conditions might be interesting.

Sure won’t. They’ve upset me more times than I can count.

Re: Football Press Conference | Bowl Bound vs. Army (Independence Bowl) - latechsports.c
This could be the most lopsided Independence Bowl ever. It’s clearly going to be a game of Army men versus Tech boys.

Cumbie is so far out of his depth
Fizzle end to a drive that wasn't bad

Re: Football Press Conference | Bowl Bound vs. Army (Independence Bowl) - latechsports.c
Betting on the winner is boring, I'm more interested if they can hit a dozen 4th down conversions

When they went for it on 4th down when they were 70 yards from the goal line, that told you all you needed to know about how Army feels about our defense.
-
Re: Football Press Conference | Bowl Bound vs. Army (Independence Bowl) - latechsports.c
Exactly. That one possession meant nothing to them. They know they can run on Tech and that Jech can’t score TDs.
-
Re: Football Press Conference | Bowl Bound vs. Army (Independence Bowl) - latechsports.c
Coach Crumbie blows it again not making a case, a bigger case for Edwards not scoring and the ball not being spotted right. If your team sucks as bad as Jech’s does you’ve got to do something to give your team a chance. All this extra game has proved is that Crumbie hasn’t learned anything about leading a team.

Actually, it proved we're a 5-8 team not a 5-7 one
Guess we already knew that

Re: Football Press Conference | Bowl Bound vs. Army (Independence Bowl) - latechsports.c
Post game Crumbie interview and radio summary show is all about praising the effort of not quitting even when nothing really goes well. Crumbie is really nothing more than a cheerleader and sunshine pumper. In a room full of horse shit he’d be pretending to look for the pony that would have to be buried in the room somewhere. I’m overdone tired of it.

Re: Football Press Conference | Bowl Bound vs. Army (Independence Bowl) - latechsports.c
My expectations were non-existent, and they still failed to meet them.
-
Re: Football Press Conference | Bowl Bound vs. Army (Independence Bowl) - latechsports.c
The refs were not kind to Tech last night. Not excuse-mongering, just a fact. Everyone says, "you can call holding on every play" and the refs could have called about 15 holding calls on Army and gotten those right. Not one holding call on Army, not one. And yeah, Tru Edwards scored, and if not, the ball should have been marked at the one-foot line, not the two yard line. Refs sucked.
All that said, what last night really revealed is Coach Crummy has no business being head coach anywhere! He is absolutely clueless.
-
Re: Football Press Conference | Bowl Bound vs. Army (Independence Bowl) - latechsports.c
I so glad last week is over. I'm tired of hearing about how honorable, noble, ethical and morally principled Army players and coaches are, (what a joke), and not one kind word like that about our players....
Army showed their true character on the last drive of the game. LA Tech had turned the ball over to Army on the Tech 25-yd line by failing to convert a 4th down with 1:15 seconds left in the game. So, instead of just taking the snap in the VICTORY FORMATION, the Army QB tried to run up the score on LA Tech by throwing the ball in the end zone with only 1:15 seconds left on the game clock. I thought it was a very "classless" act. Thank goodness, our LA Tech DB made a good play in the end zone to stop the potential score.
Then, on the next play, the Army QB tried to run one of his patented run plays for a score. The same Tech DB (#26) hit him extremely hard and stopped him for a short 3-yd gain.
This is where it got really interesting. After some more "back and forth" talking between the Army QB and the LA Tech DB --and with the clock still running and some fans booing-- the Army QB reached his hand out to make peace with the Tech DB in an effort to shake his hand. The LA Tech DB rejected it by slapping his hand away. And you could also see on the screen that the LA Tech player told him to go F.... himself.
The LA Tech player was angry, and I don't blame him. I know some of you will take the side of Army with all the silly typical cliche's...."they are allowed to play the full 60 minutes", etc.... But that's not the point. The point is, after listening all week to how honorable and disciplined Army is, this was a low life, classless and undisciplined move on national TV by Army's football coach Jeff Monken and his players.
The whole thing made me laugh. I laughed at the hypocrisy being committed by our United States Military Academy. Because after listening all week to how honorable and noble the Army players and coaches are, I sat there and watched Army commit at least two serious "unsportsmanlike" acts to purposely try to run up the score on an opponent at the end of a game.

"not one kind word like that about our players..." What do you want to be said about "our players?" That they're good losers? Not just "good" losers, they excel at it! Fifth straight losing season and another ass kicking in a bowl game. Tech needs more players like Army has.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. For the record, since you're such an Army fan, the "hypocrite" Knights had 13 losing seasons in a row from 1997 to 2009. Then, they posted a paltry 7-6 record in 2010, only to follow that up by having 5 more losing seasons in a row thru and including 2015.
*Army had 18 losing seasons out of 19.
*Army was 56-167 over that 19-yr period.
*LA Tech was 119-112 over that same 19-yr period (1997 thru 2015).
Army lost 55 MORE games than LA Tech over that 19-yr period.
LA Tech won 63 more games than Army over that 19-yr period of time
The defense rests.

Bless your heart HogDawg. We do not normally agree, but I 100% agree with you on this topic. The Field Goal atrempt, with them trying to get 30 points on the scoreboard. I felt was classless as well. Hell, we really did better against Army than Tulane. Ever Loyal Be.
