DEI Judy still at work to keep the worst TV deal in college football.

Re: 2025 Football Schedule
No Middle, JSU, or FIU. That part is fine.
I'm not sure there is a team in our conference that is going to be of more interest than any other. Possibly SHSU because they're closest. Liberty or WKU because they're likely to be good (maybe JSU will join them in this, but we'll see post-RichRod). I guess the western teams have the most history with us, but I don't know that either side considers those rivalry games in any way (and UTEP is leaving anyway).
The who of it all is just what it is for this conference. Other than the pairs of rivals these 12 teams don't care about each other so it doesn't really matter who plays who, we just all need a conference and a schedule and this is what's available.
The mid-week continues to be bad. Based on the logic above it shouldn't matter who we get mid-week vs who we get on a Saturday (not to any real degree) but I guess if you wanted something extra to be mad about on top of the pure existence and scope of mid-week, you'd probably want your worst draws then since you're going to be pretty limited - so (grading on a curve) maybe you'd rather have SHSU on a Saturday and NMSU on a weeknight or something? But that's probably not a huge deal. It's giving up 2 home Saturday games at all that's the issue. At least we avoid the Thur-to-next-Tue turnaround this year with byes built into October and just 3 instead of 4 mid-week games overall. That's an improvement.
Somehow Missouri State got 2 road games and just 1 home mid-week game. I'd think schools would be fighting for that set-up, so it's curious that a newbie got it. But I wonder if schools if bother lobbying for that kind of thing or if they just get what they get?
There has been uncertainty about whether our media deal was "everyone plays 4 mid-week games in October" or "CUSA provides X number of mid-week games in October and it just makes more sense for the whole conference to pivot to avoid going back and forth from Sat to Thur" and this year's schedule makes me think it's the later. Several teams just have 3 mid-week games and byes in October. That's better (and a small argument for the over-expansion we've done).

Re: 2025 Football Schedule
Our leadership has failed.
They got excited about having 3000 at a MBB game the other night.
-
Re: 2025 Football Schedule
Apparently Liberty managed to get only 2 mid-week games (and only 1 at home). What the heck? We're a legacy member of this conference with specific circumstances and demographics that make those game worse for us than for some others. Why can't we get just one mid-week home game?

Our leadership continues to fail.
Liberty is DEI Judy's new UAB

As part of the festivities for Homecoming Weekend, our contest against Sam Houston has been moved from Tuesday, October 28th to Friday, October 31st.*
The game will serve as our Homecoming game.

Hm, if only there were a way to make attendance even lower than a Tuesday night game...
-
Re: 2025 Football Schedule
I rather we have the Homecoming game on Saturday afternoon/evening with no internet tv broadcast.
Homecoming on Friday night (on Halloween) is stupid.

Bingo

Re: 2025 Football Schedule
Yeah, it's being sold as a big win and of course you have to talk it up. I'm sure you can make a Halloween night game on tv fun for current students.
But, it's still a weeknight game. During the best weather of the year. For homecoming. I guess it's better than Tuesday of that week? I assume that we went and fought for this. I hope it didn't cost too much of whatever political capital we have with the conference/network. Because it probably wasn't worth pounding the table in my opinion.

I don’t think it cost us any political capital. There are already 2 other games that night - 1 CUSA & 1 SBC.

Re: 2025 Football Schedule
Will there be more praise from our AD on what a good job Judy is doing?
This is the dumbest move our president and AD have allowed since the rebranding of Women's sports.

So what should we have done with this game? Leave it on a Tuesday if we were offered Friday?
If it's the homecoming issue, should we have it in September or late November?

That question is really revealing. We have worked ourselves into a situation where there are zero good options. All are terrible.

On the Tuesday? That's the "favor" they're doing us. Letting us out of being their Tuesday night programming.

Yeah. It's this. It's not all on Tech of course. But just like "no money, streaming only on Saturday with no attention" vs. "weeknights on CBSSN for a nickel and maybe a few more eyeballs" is a terrible choice, so is Sept/late Nov homecoming vs. Friday night Halloween.
There isn't a right choice.
-
Re: 2025 Football Schedule
That week's schedule is weird. I wish we could have worked to get Liberty or WKU to move their game to Friday.
Quote:
Tuesday
UTEP @ Kennesaw St
Wednesday
FIU @ Missouri St
Jax St @ MTSU
Friday
SHSU @ Tech
Saturday
Delaware @ Liberty
NMSU @ WKU

I have my doubts that the viewership numbers are meaningful enough to justify the choices we've had thrust upon us by the conference (and that we meekly accept)

You are missing the point. This is a total cluster that begins with bad decisions made by our president and AD. They continue to defend an incompetent DEI hire and we suffer for it. Of course, like the great bureaucrats they are they will blame circumstances beyond their control.

Exactly. Judy has their balls in a vise and they can only beg for more of the same.

1 ESPN U game, 2 CBS Sports Network Games, 3 ESPN+ early season games. Rest are ESPN TBD but probably ESPN+

Re: 2025 Football Schedule
lsu game on ESPN+ is probably not going to happen unless the subscriber has a provider.
False advertising from DEI Judy.

Lsu has it listed as secn+\espn+
-
Re: 2025 Football Schedule
That means it will only be on Sec+ unless you have a provider. Been there, done that many times. The only exception is if ABC is carrying the game
FWIW the SEC wants to sell their product somewhere that costs more than $10.99 per month

Can't put a price on that weeknight exposure.
I guess we need to root for some baseball playoff sweeps to open up ESPN2 slots.

Give me your take on what that exposure does for Tech. Here's mine...
We cut one commercial (usually lame) every year to be used in these games. Sometimes we run the lame commercials from the prior year.
Viewers see the stands with a couple of thousand people in attendance which is horribly embarrassing.
ESPNU and CBSS don't catch many more viewers than an ESPN+ game. Everything is considered "streamed" now. Viewers typically have money on the game and since 2020 we have not covered the spread IF we are ever a favorite. Being a consistent underdog is not a compliment.
Finally, the "national exposure" thing has been throw around for all the years our attendance has either gone down or remained stagnant. National exposure is a bureaucratic buzz phrase.
NOTHING positive is happening with Tech athletics at the time. We are closer to a laughing stock than a respected program. Our leadership, going back to D.R. and McClelland can be blamed for that. No improvements have been made from the President down to the athletic director.

I think that if you took all of our national exposure due to this media deal and buck to McDonalds, you could get a cup of coffee.

Not even a small if you add tax- Jun 2025 price- Premium Roast Coffee Small which is there old standard 1000 degree coffee is now a $1.00+ tax.
FML, we aren't even worth McDonalds coffee.... and besides being somewhat funny and a whole lot sad here, I agree that the "exposure" we get from the conference deal isn't worth being exposed.

Re: 2025 Football Schedule
Bring back the State Fair game with NSU and play it every year.
6 conference divisional games (3 at home)
2 conference non-divisional games (1 at home)
1 FCS game vs NSU in Shreveport
3 OOC FBS games (1-2 at home)

I think our philosophy will continue to be;
1 FCS $ game at home
1 P4 $ game on the road
1 G5 Home
1 G5 Road
The problem with moving to SBC is our regional opportunities have gotten more limited. But we need to be scheduling Texas schools: UNT, Rice, Houston, SHSU, SMU, UTSA, Texas State. I would love to be rotating between Dallas & Houston/Austin/San Antonio annually.
I think with the money poured into JAS the last 10-15 years, we don't need to play in Shreveport like we once did. What I wouldn't mind is once every 5-6 years playing a P4 game that has a sponsor that pays us and the opponent.
-
Re: 2025 Football Schedule
Shreveport is a $hit hole. No need to ever go back again unless it's for that crappy bowl game.
We have some great people who support Tech over there, but I think they know their city is bad and getting worse.
-
Re: 2025 Football Schedule
Yep, stay away from playing in Shreveport unless we are forced.
