Best looking unis we have for the opener
Our Thursday night guy looks like a Friday night guy.
Good baseball so far.
Our production crew…the cameras will auto focus if they just press the right button
Tech sure hits a lot of pop ups. Just imagine what we might could do with some line drives or even hard hit grounders. Our few base runners just stand around watching fly outs. When Safford is the big hitter something is definitely off.
#12 has been impressive. Came back from a tough play to get the last out. His pitch count has to be at the max.
Cooley did his duty very well. Now it’s time for the relievers to do theirs.
Strike zone suddenly changed…can only give him one more
16 threw good pitches…blue screws him
Now it feels like Tech is losing.
Not feeling it with 33 on the mound, but I hope I’m wrong.
Blue screws him on pitch 1. He gets a strike call on the same pitch after LB chewed on blue
Go get him…
Not to worry. Our pitching coach just got a raise and a promotion
atta boy…hit by pitch
Now time for our catcher to start contributing to the loss
Tech was mentally beat in the 7th inning. Now we’ve got to rely on a team that can’t hit, so we’ll see.
This should be good for a couple of more Liberty runs…good grief!
Harlan gets out of his jam. now for our offense
Young boys came through
Tech went from Burroughs not making the second consecutive post game show to being there.
Liberty pretty much did nothing but show up to almost win the game. Tech can’t afford to be so complacent.
There was a whole game of errors, bad pitching and leaving runners on base with bad at bats. You really should pay more attention to the details of the game.
The game was clean through six innings. Then the plate ump decided to change the strike zone, giving 3 straight walks. That changed the whole game.
Good offense in the ninth though.
As for LB not doing post game interviews when we lose...it's a slap in the face to fans and I'm guessing TA doesn't press for those interviews that he doesn't know how to conduct. Don't need to make our coach "uncomfortable".
Sharky knows nothing about baseball. He's a "rose-colored-glasses" kind of fan. That's okay, we can always use those optimistic fans around. They help to keep we realists from going nutso.
Overall, talent-wise, Tech falls in the "mediocre to fairly good" category. On a scale of 1 to 100, the Dawgs are about a 65.
As for the game itself, too many walks and too many errors. And yes, not playing in the moment, situationally, when on offense. That is measured by that awful stat: LOB. PawDawg loves for Tech to leave runners on, he thinks the higher the LOB the better the team is playing. Well, there are some LOB numbers that ALL teams experience, but the really good teams simply don't in those "situations." Games can be won/lost in the first few innings just as much as the last few innings.
Now, to put my red & blue glasses on....How 'bout dem Dawgs!!! Tech needs to win this series. I doubt a sweep is in the cards, but 2-1 is good.
Go Dawgs!
Burroughs made some unusual pitching decisions that I hope don’t cost the Dawgs in the next two games. Thankfully Nations and Hooks didn’t throw much so hopefully they can pitch again even if just an inning or two either Friday or Saturday. Historically Harland is who Burroughs puts in when he’s conceding the game and is the least arm in the bullpen. Going into the 9th Burroughs wasn’t expecting his bats to win this game. They really hadn’t showed much capability the last few games that was earned and not given. It’s a very good thing that Tech was more lucky than good in a few situations. Luck is a part of baseball and counts just the same as skill, so I’m thankful to have it when it comes. As for the gremlin umpire, he was seriously bad at times and way more so going against Tech. It’s a good thing Burroughs chewed his ass when he did otherwise it could’ve and probably would’ve gotten even worse. Tech needs a sweep in the worst way for any future NCAA hope. Go Dawgs! Here’s hoping we start playing up to our potential a lot more.
Perhaps he's misspelled his name and it's actually "sNarky".
Sorry for not keeping up…why is the game at 4:00 today?
Opposing teams are stealing easily. We may survive that weakness against average teams but not against the teams we should be “competing” against. That weakness will kill us in one or two run games.
Through 4 Tech doing what they do with 1 hit and a bunch of sky high easy outs. Liberty has 2-0 gifted lead. The dawgs are looking very uninspired so far.
This is when LOB matters…bases loaded no outs.
Sacrifice 1 run.
The stat is now less relevant with 1 out man on 1st and 2nd
Now with 1 out man on 2nd it’s a toss up for relevance
Why when we get a head in the count are the next 2-3 pitches way too often off the plate? This has to be an intentional strategy because we do it way too often. How about we try throwing 3 strikes in a row and maybe get some batters out before they turn our stupid strategy into walks.
Pitcher defense is definitely a practice idea for next week. This is ridiculous.
It’s all about pitching…give our pitching coach and his boss and his boss a raise
Looks like little league except coaches are getting paid 6 figures
Here’s an idea…throw strikes and maybe they will hit a weak pop up for an out
When Harland is your best reliever you know you’re in big trouble. I give him credit though. He pitched with an all business Bulldog attitude today.
Pop out clinic.
Burroughs said it exactly right in the post game show. He said it was a pillow fight. Unfortunately Tech knocked themselves out with their own pillow. Liberty didn’t even have to try.
Dallas Baptist is drubbing poor ole Sam Houston, and to think, DBU is missing their two best hitters from the lineup, nursing minor injuries. DBU is just starting to warm up. WKU lost to MTSU tonight, so DBU and WKU are now tied for 1st place, both at 10-4. Dawgs a 1/2 game back. We need to win tomorrow, win the series.
Dawgs win 4-3, take the series. Good job Dawgs!
Never easy with this bunch. Hooks demonstrated why you throw strikes, if they hit it, they hit it. But in the 9th Liberty teed off on two pitches that led to three outs. No defense for a walk, as everyone knows. Throw your best pitches and allow your defense to have a chance to make outs. That's what happened in the 9th.
Hawsey is swinging a hot bat. Glad to see LB has moved him up to the 4-hole.
Like Burroughs likes to say, it’s not who you play, but when you play them. Thankfully Liberty didn’t couldn’t make good on all the opportunities Tech gave them this series. We could’ve had a sweep and just about as easily could’ve been swept. Hopefully the Dawg will build on this fortuitous uptick in winning. Roll on Dawgs.
It was good to see Houston play and that he had some success at the plate. He needs to play more often for all kinds of reasons. Here’s an idea, how about Mexico return to playing left field with Drost having returned to his not hitting normality and let Houston DH when he’s not catching. Do the same for Birch when he’s not catching. I sure wish Burroughs would move Coates to SS and put Comeaux back at 3rd. Yeah I know Safford makes plays when the ball is hit right at him, but he can’t hit often enough to contribute in every game.
This should of been a sweep -
Our defense on the corners is weak at best - Hawsey can flat out hit, but can't field and Coates can make a great defensive play and then boot routine balls -
Forsythe really struggled Thursday - it wasn't on the ump, he wasn't close on any of his pitches - he might can reach 97 and 98 consistently but when you can't throw strikes to the 7, 8 & 9 batters who combined weren't hitting .200 you have control issues (and he is our top NIL guy)
Flat out gave the game away Friday - as good as Roberson is, he has to make that routine play every time - didn't allow an earned run the entire game and got beat 5-3
Mallard is in a funk at the plate, really scuffling, so is Mexico right now, and Berkley couldn't buy a timely hit all weekend - yet they took 2 of 3 and are still 1/2 game out
Next six conference games decide if we are true contenders - but they have put themselves in a great position heading into the last 1/3 of the season
Hawsey is a liability on defense, but we need his bat, so DH! I like the idea of rotating Hawsey/Mexico against righties and the Berch brothers/Houston against lefties at DH.
I have a question...
Let's say Mexico starts in RF but later we want to insert Drost for defensive purposes and let's say Houston is at the DH. Can Mexico be named the DH in place of Houston, keeping his place in the batting order, and Drost now batting in Houston's spot? We might do this when the other guys bring in a rightie to pitch.
My understanding…a pitcher can remain as DH after being replaced.
Someone replacing a non pitcher DH becomes a pinch hitter and must either go to the field on defense and pinch hitter rules would apply. So I don’t think that would work out. Mexico must remain on defense in order to keep batting but can’t change position in the order. This could allow the same person to bat 2 times in a row.
Well, that's why I couldn't figure out a way it could be done. Guess it can't.
