Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
Here's a completely random thread for any completely random thought that may come to mind. These are pretty popular around the Internet.
I'll start this off with an astute observation on the fact that I am, in fact, getting old:
I just literally told a bunch of kids to get off my lawn! Unfortunately, I didn't shake the fist, but I SHOULD have.

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
Oh, and Red Diamond makes a Sugar/Calorie Free Sweet Tea now, and it's INCREDIBLE.
It's God's gift to Southern dieters, I'm pretty sure.
-
Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
I'm in Minneapolis. The food sucks here. The only local cuisine is cheese curds.

That stuff is pretty good. I don't make tea anymore. I just pick up a jug of the Diamond tea.

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
I'm feeling old too, 25 and just bought a house, adopting kids, and getting an insurance policy, just in case, because the wife is quitting work for the kids. Ohh...and I've yelled at the kids in the neighborhood too.

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
I have a question...
My 3 yr old daughter has recently brought to my attention the world of Barbie. If Barbie is so popular, why do i have to buy her friends?
-
Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
Rus-La should end all of his/her posts with "From Rus-La with Love".

Um, do we really need to tell you why Barbie needs to have her girlfriends? It is so that Dad can play with them after the kid goes to sleep. Do I have to draw a picture?

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
Every morning since graduation I wake up and say, "Holy heck, I think I've turned into an adult!" Strange things are going on in my brain. It feels like I'm missing my position of "gorilla," yet social norms won't let me wear the suit to work. I feel responsibility in the form of insurance and electric bills and stuff creeping up on me like a predator. While I know I'll make it (this is why I went to Tech in the first place), I guess nerves are natural.
And I miss Tech already.

What you describe doesn't change after 40 either. You still feel like college was yesterday. The only difference is that college kids look like they are 10 years old.

...and they call you "sir".
A good friend of mine out here has a 3 year old daughter. The other day she and I were joking around with each other and I told her she was crazy. She, not understanding that I was joking, said, "I'm not crazy, old man!" Her mom scholded her for not "respecting her elders", but I could not help laughing.
I'm officially an old man at age 34.

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
I recently went to a friends house for a crawfish boil/graduation party. There was one of those big blow-up jumpy things for the kids. I got in it with two of my buddies and we had a wrestling match that would have made JYD proud. (There was lots of beer there as well). The wife of my buddy who was having the party yelled at us and told us to get out of the jumpy-thing. Im physically 35 years old but I will never be completely "grown-up".

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
I realized my body-fat index directly increases with my age. So now that I am 36, I must have 36% body-fat. YIKES. I feel like crap!

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
More appropriate for the Joke thread, but I can't resist this one sent to me. Now this is old.
An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen. The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, "Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great I would recommend it very highly."
The other man said, "What is the name of the restaurant?"
The first man thought and thought and finally said, "What is the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know... the one that's red and has thorns."
"Do you mean a rose?"
"Yes, that's the one," replied the man.
He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, "Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?

My 3 yr old son told me today "I want to be just like you when I grow up." I didn't know kids actually said that.
For the record, I told him "That's a really nice thing to say, but I hope you'll be better than me."
Kids.

Several years ago - my parents were extending their driveway - and of course it was on a clay hill and the contractors had not laid the wire in for the concrete yet -
It was mid August and an afternoon thunderstorm came up and dropped a quick half inch shower that turned the new drive way into a 12ft by 30ft "slick" mud puddle -
Will the neighborhood kids (about 8 of them) were all standing their eyeing the fabulous thing that just had been created right before thier eyes - take in mind all of them were right about 7 to 12 years old - four of them belonging to the State Trooper next door -
Now I'm about 33 at the time - so what do I do - kick of the tennis shoes and take a running start and do a belly slide for about 25 ft - next thing I know every kid in the neighborhood is in the middle of the SLIDE doing the exact same thing -
Not a word was spoken - all it took was a spark and a soul brave enough to make the first leap -

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
OK, so here are my random thoughts for the weekend.
Just got back from seeing my only nephew graduate. I'll admit I got a little teary eyed, watching the kid that took his first steps to me as a child walk across the stage (top 10 out of 297, BTW) as a young man. I'm just proud as hell.
Then I start to think, is it just pride that's making me misty eyed, or is it the fact that:
1) He was born when I was at Tech.
2) He graduated high school exactly 20 years after I did.
3) I'm now old enough that I could have a child his age graduating high school.
Why does time fly, but age creeps up on you slowly?
Oh, and I just realized that my waist size has now surpassed my in seam.
I think I need a drink!:D

I watched that also. That channel is running a Fantastic Monday special today. Naturally we should be celebrating the release of a movie. For the thousands of soldiers who gave their lives for their country, big deal. The Fantastic Four saved the whole planet!

They won't say it, I will. Thank you to all of the soldiers who have fought and/or died for this country.

Done real good today. Pulled in 5 or 6, but I CANNOT let the day end with this behemoth having the upper hand. To Wal-Mart I go! I will have the last laugh, on this day...

One reason why global warming is good: Cheap beer.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18941618/
This Volker Glutsch sounds like my kind of guy...
"It's absolutely outrageous that beer is getting even more expensive," Glutsch said, gulping down the last swig of his half-liter dark beer at lunch. "But there's nothing we can do about it — except drinking less and that's not going to happen."
And this Walter Koenig fellow; I like his style.
"Beer drinkers across the country will get upset when beer prices will rise even further in the fall," said Koenig. "We are therefore demanding that government stop its subsidies for biofuels immediately."

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
Gonzo,
I have noticed that correlation myeslf. I have known five men who paid for their wives to have boob jobs. Of those, three of the marriages ended within a year (including a couple who had been married for almost a decade), and a fourth ended within two years. I haven't talked to the fifth guy in about a decade, so I don't know about his situation.
There is probably a moral to that story, but it might not be appropriate to post it here.

In August, I'm going to try and take a day off and drive over there with my grill, a cooler, and some drinks and hang out on the beach and spend the night until the launch. The problem is you never know when they'll go up for the delays. But, even with the delay, I'd at least be hanging out on the beach with a cooler and a grill.
If any BBB'ers want to join in, let me know. I used to have some connections (and even got to see an Atlas V go up from up close), but I lost the dude's phone #.
I'm glad the shuttle went up well and I hope it comes back well too. I especially hope there are no failures with the main engine controllers, specifically any of the solder joints.

Never, ever go on a friday night period, unless you want to see the freak show. If you can get out early and I mean before 6AM you have a much better chance of getting in and our with no hassles. Unless of course you consider getting there before 6 a hassle, which I do.

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
What I hate about the super walmarts now is that they shortened the length of the conveyors at the checkouts. Used to, you could unload your full cart and then use it for your bags. Now you have to make a special trip to get an extra cart.

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
Today, I called an AC repairman to come fix the AC. I called and told him the fan was broken and needed to be repaired. The landlord informed me there is a warranty, but unfortunately that warranty doesn't cover labor. So, the guy, after I called and told him the fan was broken, comes out. I had to take off work to meet him here. He takes 90 to tell me, "the fan is broken." So, I have to pay him $60 in labor for his diagnosis. Unfortunately, the nearest fan is "all the way in Clearwater," a trip of less than five minutes so he has to come back tomorrow to actually replace the AC fan at an additional labor cost of $90.
I wish he would have just kicked in the door and robbed me after replacing the fan. At least then I could feel good about getting a few good hits in before my money was gone. If anyone on here is an AC repairman who charges $60 to come tell me that the AC is broken...

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
To the person or persons that 'found' my lost wallet:
1) I can't figure out why you didn't spend more on my cards than you did on your one-day-I-10-Westbound-gas-station-shopping-spree. And;
2) The majority of the contents -- cards, license, registration, insurance stuff, receipts -- I could really care less about. Nothing I can't replace, or miss much. But, there was a lucky one dollar bill and a Bicycle-brand ten of hearts playing card that I desperately wish I had back.
The lucky bill was given to me by an old creole operator I used to work with. Anything about fishin', voodoo, sewerage, money, or women, he could tell you about. The card was from my PawPaw. Long story there, but he knew pretty much everything about everything before the Alzheimer's took it away.
I almost feel sorry for you about the comes-around/goes-around that'll be with you for a long, long while...
