Huge announcement coming out of Baylor.
Will this annoucement benefit the Lady Techsters program???
Jeeeesh Lee......... I have always defended you. This is a bad teaser and can't possibly live up to what you are building as expectations.
What do you think boxer?
from what i hear; this is not a positive thing for the techsters......
Could it be that Leon is going to work with Kim?
Could it be that Spoon changed her mind?
Could it be that Mulkey will be Hillary's running mate?
Maybe someone from Baylor is transfering?
Would secret could be that big?
I don't see what Baylor can be doing that is going to be negative to Tech. If Brooke went to Baylor, congrats to her. If it's something else, I'm all ears.
It says on latechreport.com some big news out of Baylor @ 10:30
Nothing on the Baylor Sites
Maybe Kim resigned to come be an assistant with CL and Spoon....:icon_wink:
We are probably building up something that's not really a big deal
Lee already posted the story on latechreport.com earlier today, and then quickly took it off.
Interesting that it's being held until 10:30 tonight. Is it so it won't make it onto any local broadcast or maybe to build up hype?
Im going to be p.o. if it's not something major
10 minutes and counting...lol
You obviously don't live paycheck to paycheck....:bigcry:

WACO, Texas - Hall of Fame coach Leon Barmore has joined the Baylor women's basketball staff as an assistant coach, Lady Bear head coach Kim Mulkey announced Friday. Mulkey and Barmore, both members of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, will join forces to again form one of women's basketball's most successful coaching tandems. Prior to Mulkey's arrival as Baylor's head coach, the duo coached together for 15 seasons at Louisiana Tech.
"Words can't express how excited I am that Coach Barmore has decided to join the Lady Bear staff," Mulkey said. "This has to rank as one of my best recruiting jobs, albeit in a different way. I'm confident that Coach Barmore will have an immediate impact with our players and staff as we continue to build upon the success we've enjoyed the past eight years."
A 2003 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, Barmore orchestrated one of the most dominant programs in women's basketball history, guiding the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters to 13, 30-win seasons and 19, 20-plus win seasons. Barmore, the fastest coach in women's basketball history to reach 500 wins, retired Aug. 22, 2002, after 20 years as Louisiana Tech's head coach, posting an amazing career record of 576-87. In fact, his .869 winning percentage still ranks as the best in women's college basketball history.
In his 20 seasons at the program's helm, the Lady Techsters made 20 trips to the NCAA Tournament, which included a national championship in 1988, four NCAA runner-up finishes and four NCAA Final Four appearances. During his tenure, the Lady Techsters were ranked among The Associated Press Top 25 for 179 straight weeks and fashioned a 54-game winning streak. In addition, Barmore coached 12 WBCA All-Americas, four Olympians and 37 first-team All-Conference selections.
Prior to joining the Baylor staff, Barmore spent his entire career at Louisiana Tech as a player, assistant coach and head coach.

"I am really looking forward to working with Coach Barmore again. I have always thought that he got out of the game too early. He has a wealth of experience and a tremendous basketball mind that will greatly benefit our program. It is exciting that he thinks enough of me and this program that he would come out of retirement; we have high respect for each other. He's a Hall of Fame coach that has many more contributions to make to women's basketball. I welcome him to our program and look forward to him becoming a part of our Baylor family," said Mulkey, who is also expected to make another hire to her staff in the coming weeks. "There are only two schools that could have gotten me out of retirement, Louisiana Tech and Baylor. At this time in my life I have no desire to be a head coach but I missed the game and still wanted to coach. After several talks with Kim, I decided Baylor was a perfect fit for me. I get to work for someone I know and respect, someone that has the same `doing it right' attitude that I have and someone I know will take care of me. What Kim has done at Baylor is one of the most amazing success stories of all times and for a few moments, I'll get to be a part of that. I appreciate Kim and Baylor for giving me this opportunity," said Barmore.
As hell froze over?
Guess THIS clears the air on what Leon thinks of CL as a HC!!!!:icon_roll: All of his actions in the stands in the TAC during the Techster games this year reinforces that. LB didn't even want to be an assistant in his staff!! :shocked2: Guess I'm a new Baylor fan ( although I always cheer for KM unless it was against us ). Good luck, Leon!! :icon_razz:

Jesus H. Christ ... That speaks volumes about the condition of Lady Techster Basketball. When Leon goes to be an assistant at Baylor instead of being approached to help get Techster BB out of the funk it's in, things aren't going our way.
like i said; not positive for tech
You honestly think that Leon would leave a head coaching job at Oklahoma State to be an assistant at a place he left a few years back?
What's next Catrina Freirson the new coach at ULM?
they have already beaten the techsters with the coach they got. (sorry; I shoulda said that with my inside voice)
Can T-Spoon save the women's team?
I SERIOUSLY DOUBT he was even approached about helping the Techsters out of the hole they are in. It's a SAD SAD day in Techsterville. Congrats to Kim and Baylor for trumping Tech yet again!!!
I will say this now...because i will probably change my mind when I wake up tomorrow.
LB misses coaching, obviously. He doesn't want to be head coach, anywhere. At this point in his career, for him to come out of retirement for something he misses, I doubt he wants to rebuild anything...especially his program he spent his entire career building that he has spent the last several years watching be torn apart. Why not go join someone that he coached with for 15 years, won with for 15 years +, and enjoy being part of a national contender and finally retire having made it even stronger. Then he has that tagged onto his legacy as well.
As much as I am upset, I don't blame him for doing it. If LB is going to get back into coaching, outside of a HC position, he cannot do that at Tech right now. He would not be happy. He would be asked to be HC, and would have to say no. He could not be Long's assistant. He probably does not want to have to start over from scratch building something that he already had built.
Okay, like I said, was Leon really thinking about coming back?
How did they trump the Techsters?
Baylor is on a completely different level.
They would double our score if we played them.
This is very disappointing. I am speechless that this has happened. My alma mater has some serious problems.
Maybe we should change the name of this forum.
La Tech should revoke his retirement.
Leon Barmore has pulled some boneyard stunts in his career, but this is the boniest!
Is this now the darkest day in Lady Techster history?
Mulkey hires fomer mentor Barmore as Baylor women’s assistant
By Jim Barnes | Friday, April 25, 2008, 10:25 PM
Tribune-Herald assistant sports editor Jerry Hill reports:
This time, Kim Mulkey outdid herself.
After filling previous openings with the lead assistant off Texas’ staff and the head coach at Princeton, the Baylor women’s basketball coach hooked the biggest fish of all on Friday when she lured Louisiana Tech Hall of Fame coach Leon Barmore out of retirement.
“I’m shocking the world,” said Mulkey, who played and coached under Barmore at Tech. “To be able to get a coach of Leon Barmore’s stature out of retirement is unbelievable. And for him to join our program and help us to continue to build an elite team, it just tickles me to death. Coach Barmore got out of the game too early. He has an unbelievable mind for the game of basketball.”
The 63-year-old Barmore retired for the second time in two years in August 2002, ending an incredible 20-year reign at the Ruston, La., school that included 576 wins, 20 consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournnament, nine Final Four appearances and the 1988 national championship.

Jim Oakes' Legacy, is an obvious choice
We could have had Mulkey if she were a man she would have gotten the extra yr she wanted
theres no doubt Leon was in agony watching from the upper ring at the TAC. We met him walking around the open area a couple of times and I swear it looked like he was fixing to toss his cookies. I dont think there was ever a chance for him to come back to the program. He saved it for us once, that ought to be enough. No doubt this is gonna be a pretty emotional subject for so many. I'm kinda floor myself but Leon deserves to be happy and feel needed and obviously Waco is where that fuzzy feeling is gonna come from.
Back when Leon stepped down, it did seem that maybe he had a difficult time dealing with the current type of player that is all to common these days. I think that had a lot to do with what i saw in Coach Gallaway the softball coach before things happened that lead to his leaving also. Can Coach Barmore get back in it with the same fire taht he had back in teh day? I think he probally can and if Baylor is attracting the old school type player that he was used to, he will be in Barmore Heaven.
Personally, i think we have Gary Blair and A&M to thank for this :icon_wink: Actually, we might even have Van to thank for it down in BRouge. Our retired guy might have seen how it put a sparkle in Vans eye and decided to dust off the suit and give it a go.
...a desperate and devastated Tech nation calls out to Champion110 to come and put a positive spin on the tragic news of the day. Where is he, why is he nowhere to be found at this critical hour???
Seriously, I doubt that even Champ can pull something positive out of this... :bigcry:
In case anyone is intersted.

well this wont help;
but recruiting in Louisiana for women's bball did not get any easier for the techsters...
I'm actually depressed. I consider this a sign Lady Techster BB has hit ROCK BOTTOM and has begun to dig. I hate to be a pessimist, but I'm sick of the direction of the program. This news just brings it into glaring clarity.
Oh my gosh, I'm not believing this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey RD; you bringing the java in the AM?
yes, but prob leaving a little early.
Good luck to Barmore.
Well we've been wanting a former lady techsters to be on our coaching staff and we got one of the biggest names, Teresa Weatherspoon. Lets get behind her and support the program.
I hope you are right about FB and MBB and I agree it looks more promising. However, none of the current coaches or administration are in the league of Leon Barmore as for accomplishments. It will take some pretty big achievements from those programs to overcome the lost opportunity of having one of the best WBB coaches ever in your home town go to another university. At the same time I have to watch one of my favorite sports at Tech completely fall apart. I would argue that after this years dismal performance and unacceptable losses two years in a row to ULM that changes should have been made. I think Coach Barmore should be at Tech in whatever role he would want and not at Baylor. Whatever arrogance or oversight by the Tech administration this is a very big embarrassment for Tech.
Hopefully soon to be "Dan Reneau's Demise"
Positive spin.... here it is.... Leon wants to take a year to make sure that he would want to get back into coaching. He knows that Long's days are numbered, so he "strecthes his legs" at Baylor and will return here for a few more years to revive the Lady Deadsters and solidify his legacy as the greatest Ladies coach in NCAA history... HANDS DOWN.
"Fredo, you're nothing to me now. You're not a brother, you're not a friend. I don't want to know you or what you do. I don't want to see you at the hotels, I don't want you near my house. When you see our mother, I want to know a day in advance, so I won't be there. You understand?"

Our Baylor “Control Freak” Coach Hell-Cat Kim Mulkey will now be screaming and yelling at her poor ex-coach. If any man knows how to tame a shrew; let him speak up now or forever hold his peace?
after sleeping on it, here is what i think. I think Barmore wouldnt have minded coming back to tech to help, but, whats important is WHO he is under as an assistant. At Baylor, he can be a TRUE assistant because Kim is such a strong coach and personality. If he would have been put on the staff at Tech, he would have overshadowd Long BIG TIME and would by perseption been the HC without the title being attatched. Look, we all know how loyal Barmore had been over the years. How Tech held on to Coach B over the years is a mystery to me other than the fact that he loves Tech with all his heart. I really dont think coming back to Tech at this point is an option for him, but who knows, in a few years it might be. I hope everyone decides to hang on to their Barmore bobble heads for just a little longer and let it play out.
You are correct. For my mourning, though, I have placed my 25th anniversary print of the Lady Techsters with Barmore in the middle backwards on the wall. I will leave it that way for a week. Then, I can start celebrating Spoon again and just see what develops from the Barmore story, because YOU KNOW there is a lot more that will come out about all of this.
Wonder what our "new" AD Dooley has to say about this???
I'm truly happy for both Leon & Kim. LB still has plenty of knowledge to share & Kim has always been like a sponge when she was his AC. This is perfect for him because he can do what he enjoys the most & that's coach. No worries about recruiting & dealing w/a**wipe egotistical university presidents like Reneau!
I remember SEVERAL of ya'll on this board who suggested that CL ask Leon back to help out. So this begs the question - did CL do so & Leon said "NO"? If so, I can't see that answer being the university because LB has a HUGE love for Tech. It would have to be, IMHO, because of CL!!:icon_mad: That's even more apparent w/this move AFTER T-Spoon signed up ( another one of Leon's favorite players ).
Or did CL simply NOT ask for help ( when he clearly had to know he was in over his head as HC )? There comes a time when U need to check your ego at the door & this was one of those times ( & he blew it!! :shocked2::angry: ).
Guess time will tell how this soap opera plays out for both universities. Personally, I'd put my $$ on Baylor. :o
Gene
I bet DR couldn't care less that Leon went to Baylor. He probably rolled over in bed this morning, kissed Dooley on the cheek and told him, "Don't worry about what the fans think sweetie..."
I just found out about this 15 minutes ago. All I have to say is wow. There are so many things that could have gone down though, and unless LB comes out to say it, we may never know the exact reason for his leaving to Baylor.
I love what DR has done for academics, but as far as keeping a basketball powerhouse alive, he has done the exact opposite. I hate to say it, but he (DR) has only done half of his job. The job of the president should include both academics and promotion of the university, which today is though sports. Not keeping you edge in women's basketball, which is what we are(were) known for nation wide, is not doing ALL of your job correctly.
Granted, men's bball and football are coming of age, but when you ask some sports fan from the 80s to 90s about tech, they will think of the Lady Techsters and how great they were.
