Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
http://www.shreveporttimes.com/artic...SFRONTCAROUSEL
"(Louisiana) Tech is high on our list," Independence Bowl chairman Keith Bergeron said. The Bulldogs (7-5) would have to be released by the Western Athletic Conference to join the at-large pool. That move is expected this week. Then, the I-Bowl would have to come to an agreement with Tech to play in the Dec. 28 game at Shreveport's Independence Stadium."

Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
Glad to see this in print. Yea! No loser belt team!
-
Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
I want to see Tech/NC St or Tech/Southern Miss in the Indy Bowl
-
Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
That's great news about the I-Bowls attitude toward the Belch teams...:)
I would love to see us kick off our home & home with Southern Miss a little early!!!
-
Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
TECH/Southern Miss would be awesome!!!
-
Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
I like how they refer to us at "Tech"
-
Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
Given the choices that are being bantered around, in order of preference, give me:
1). Notre Dame
2). NC State
3). Southern Miss
4). Memphis
-
Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
1.) Notre Dame
2.) USM
3.) Memphis
4.) N.C. State
I love competition, but I don't want anything to do with NC State right now. Notre Dame would get people to watch us and root for us because everyone hates Notre Dame. USM and Memphis would help us show the WAC is better than CUSA.

Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
I am more concerned with them(THE I-BOWL) alotting us enough seat back chairs. I requested 10 and Mrs. Brenda doesn't know how many they will give us yet. If I am going to freeze my a$$ off (potentially) I do not want to be in the nose bleed section. As for who they play that is not important just that they play! I hope these are discussion that we continue to have, as opposed to how good a recruiting class we may have like last year.
-
Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
I think a game against a BCS auto qualifier league team would be one which would excite our fans the most. I think a game with a regional CUSA would be a good opportunity for us to show we can compete with them and turn out a big crowd for a big game. I think talking about ND is pretty useless. I don't believe for a minute they would come to Shreveport to face us this year.

Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
Alot can be said for beating the crap out of Notre Dame so bad that Charlie Wiess gets fired
-
Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
We could just add to the list of coaches who we got fired this season. hahaha

Not yet.

Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
They are saying if ND accepts a bowl bid he will be kept - if they decline a bowl bid he is gone....
Go figure...
-
Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
From what Spencer Tillman sd yesterday, if Weiss is fired, expect ND to go after Urban Myers. Now, Florida has a little more to offer another young coach. They have done it before. Better hope Charlie keeps his job.

This is about to get interesting.
If the NCAA committee rules in favor of the Sunbelt their would still be an option of trading with St. Petersburg for CUSA.

Wright Waters and company are trying to use Bruce Van De Velde's comments against us. They KNOW we don't want to play a Sunbelt team in the Indy Bowl and yet they are still trying to shove it down our throats.
This should be a WARNING to all Bowls: DON'T SIGN ANY CONTRACTS WITH THE SUNBELT CONFERENCE. There's absolutely NOTHING in it for you.

To me, this is laughable. Why on earth would urban meyer leave Florida for anything short of the NFL? He would be leaving a top SEC program, and arguably the strongest program in the nation, with warm weather and easy recruiting for a floundering program in cold weather that has strict academic regulations. It would be the dumbest move in the history of sports. Despite his past connections to ND.

Was the I-Bowl just STUPID? Why on EARTH would they sign anything with the Belt? There was no benefit for them at all. No matter what we think of Missy Setters, we DO know that she and the rest of the committee are enamored with big names. The signing on of a Sun Belt tie in just doesn't follow any logic at all. It makes no sense. There has to be more to this story.
-
Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
Exactly. There positively must be more to the story than we know. It absolutely makes no sense. If Boise somehow gets into a BCS bowl and we end up out west, the I-Bowl is in trouble.

Picture Wright Waters on his knees in front of all of the Commishes of the BCS conferences and you get a pretty good (figurative) answer to to your question of "how".

Then ND must have decided to accept a bowl invite becasue ESPN just reported that Weiss is staying. Now, where they go bowling is still a mystery. Depends on the games this weekend, I guess.
As for the I-Bowl, if we get an invite, then I expect a "big (er)" name school as the opponent. Makes for better TV ratings to get ND, obviously or an NC State from the ACC (East Coast ratings). Personally, I'd like to see USM VS Tech. Wouldn't do much for ESPN's ratings around the country though, so I think the I-Bowl is trying to set us up with a bigger name team. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
ND thought they had Urban Meyer before. They fired TW before his contract was up to have a spot for him. I believe it is the only time ND has not let a coach complete a contact. Then they were shocked that Urban (named for a pope and former ND asst coach) would not jump at the chance to go there.
-
Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
it would be great to play an ACC team or ND but the only reason they want those teams is so they can find the best team they think will beat us into the ground. this is no secret knowing their feelings about tech. They need us this year more than they have ever needed us before. They need us b/c they need to fill as many seats as than can to save their sorry bowl w/o a sponsor. They don't care about the shreveport economy and how little money we will spend b/c everyone will just drive home after the game. This is all about filling seats and finding the largest school with a half ass record that travels well to come to shreveport and watch us take it to the man.

That's it in a nutshell....its all bout butts in seats first and foremost, then national rep.

I don't think their ratings will be affected greatly by who they invite. It's the only football game on that night-a Sunday night. Every football fan will be watching the game. What else are they going to watch on a Sunday night in the middle of the holiday season? Some old black and white movie rerun that's been shown 4 times this year already not to mention the past 20 years?

Re: Shreveport Times: I-Bowl Narrows Pool
ESPN reporting this morning Wiess will remain as coach.
